India's Unknown Border | Journey To The Edge Of India 🇮🇳
🇮🇳 Whilst in the North Eastern Indian state of Manipur I decided to take a journey to the very edge of the nation to a little known border town called Moreh that has been hacked out of the surrounding jungle just across from Myanmar.
🇮🇳 On the ride I was stopped at military checkpoints in what is a volatile area of the country but the scenery of mountainous jungle made it all worth it.
🇮🇳 Moreh has a reputation as a smuggling town and so I was intrigued to see what it was that lay there exactly.
Join me on this first of a three part series as I journey to India's eastern edge...

I'm from Italy and growing up here you start to get used to see beautiful things, landscapes, art, cities, history... So you don't appreciate them as much as a tourist would do (I still love Italy, obviously) but at the moment I find more intriguing less mainstream places like Punjab, Nepal, NE India, rural China, Tibet etc...

I wouldn't call Manipur Remote in that way. Geographically yes, but people from Manipur and North East region in general are very informed of celebrities because of their love for music, films etc. They may have better knowledge of the music scene or Hollywood or youtubers for that matter.

Fact - 4 Manipuris in the first playing team. Chamat chahiye kya? Fact 2 - Manipur has been India's talent pool even before independence. Bose had his military camp in Manipur for Azad Hind Force. Tagore made a lot of his compositions on Manipur which led to the evolution of Manipuri dance form. Manipur has been producing the chunk of Indian sports talent since at least 2 generations now, not limited only to football but also representation at highest level such as Olympics in weightlifting, boxing, wrestling. Manipur has always been India's sports talent hub. When Mary Kom was first selected to represent her state, she did not have enough money to travel for teh competition. Her neighbourhood pooled in money for her to go the distance.

@@laislabonia Mr Avik, let me correct your knowledge on Manipuri dance. Manipuri claaaical dance form evolved at least a century before Tagore was born. It has rich traditional and folk dance forms. Tagore rather adapted many things from Manipuri dance. Sincerely I don't know much about Bangali literature and dance (other than folk) before Tagore. Bangali culture seems to begin with Tagore. Pl don't think that I have no respect for Bangalis and their culture. Regards

Manipuri dance form was existent much before Tagore, that is absolutely true. But then it was not known as Manipuri dance. It was only after Tagore's interest in Manipur and its rich culture, that the limited folk dance evolved into a globally recognized dance format referred to as Manipuri. Bengal is not the end of the world and it seems being in Manipur it has not given reason enough for you to dwelly further into its history. Thats your loss as far as I can say, I am least bothered by your levels of general knowledge as I am not your teacher or assessing you for the same. But then again, interesting conversation.

but for this journey it doubles as a taxi so no worry. it's also used to smuggle goods, women , and contraband on some weekends.

Agreed, hate bumbags but when travelling they are a necessity. Passport, backup cards and emergency cash stay on me at all times.
