I would have titled this "Index Funds vs Managed Funds". An index fund is generally considered a type of mutual fund.

1. Mutual funds give you flexibility to choose your own basket depending on your appetite whereas index remain same. You can not add any stocks to them they are always fix. 2. You need a fund manager for mutual fund while in index you can simply trade in your dmat.

@@banshinath8773 That is incorrect. Mutual funds can be actively managed or Indexed. People just got linguistically lazy and dropped the "mutual" from Index mutual funds. Also ETFs can be actively managed too.

An Index Fund IS a Mutual Fund, period. However the management strategy varies for different funds. An Index Mutual Fund is managed by selecting securities only by an "index" like the S&P 500, NASDAQ 100, Russell 2000, etc. Other "mutual funds" are actively managed by the fund manager by what he (or she) thinks is a good security to add to the fund's portfolio. I'm rather surprised that this guy didn't make the distinction between "Index Funds" and "Exchange Traded Funds".....

Some Index mutual funds have lower expense ratios than ETFs. FNILX has zero fees and has outperformed VOO.

This is completely incorrect. Should say active vs passive ("index" is an investing style and "mutual funds" is a type of legal entity structure). -Index funds are mutual funds (can be ETFs or regular mutual funds) - there are passive funds with high fees and visa versus. - you can place orders for Mf’s all day. They just price and settle at end of day - there are actively managed index funds which are speculative ( ie revenue weighted vs cap, sectors, beta etc) -3:55 you said you were limited to how often you can buy yourself an index fund. ETF index funds (the vast majority of passive funds) trade like stocks and you can buy and sell literally every second of the day

Buy goods across section of an economy and you should do well over the long term. The market will be high in 10 to 20 years, and significantly higher in 30. It's almost impossible for a company with no debt to go bankrupt. the U.S. is about 50% of the global Market place, Pay yourself first. It's time in the market, not timing the market. Last year I invested 100 grand in the S&P 500/ an allocation fund (with the help of my Financial Advisor Evelyn Monping of course) and made 370k, but guess what? I put it back and traded with her again and now I’m rounding up close to a million.
