I love how you stay out of your horses faces and don’t force their heads down to make them look round. So many riders can learn from you. All of your horses seem happy to carry their riders.

I’m my dressage tests, you’re supposed to have your reins pretty tight. It’s not a bad thing, unless you pull your horses head back too far, which that is abuse.

@@AlwaysYR Unfortunately, even if you don't pull the head back too far, it still can cause the horses damage to have to keep their heads in that position. It looks beautiful, but any time you have a horse move in a way that they wouldn't in nature, there is the potential to cause lasting damage.

@@AlwaysYR Dressage nowadays I see is a lot of “tension” which I think is a misconception that contact and connection means tension. If this tension is created by the horse seeking the contact then it is okay for that stage of the training. If created by the rider then it’s not okay as it creates tense, unhappy horses. When the horse seeks the contact and connection this is a good thing as it signals to the rider that horse trusts them and wants the contact. However, it’s not good to let this go on for a long period of time as the rider ends up holding up the horses head and it also means that the horse is traveling on their forehand. So when the horse seeks the contact it then becomes a signal to the rider that the horse is ready for the next step which is to drive the hind legs just enough so that the horse steps more under themselves which brings up the forehand and the horse becomes a little lighter in your hand. The horse will at first not be able to hold this lighter posture for long which is okay. The rider then needs to ask or drive again very kindly for the horse to step under themselves and then continue to repeat the process. This cycle can go on for a very long time; years even. Little by little the horse will get stronger and be able to hold that lighter posture for longer periods of time. This is the pathway to true collection and self-carriage. This is the end game and will take a very long time to get there. When in true self-carriage and collection the contact might look like it has tension but in reality the rider will feel only the weight of the reins. Also, the rider should feel so connected to the horse that the horse will seem to respond to the rider’s thoughts. The way Shae rides is also absolutely correct as she allows the horses to find their own balance while carrying a rider without the rider interfering with too much tension on the reins. This type of riding is also a necessary stage that comes before contact and connection. It is how very young and green horses should initially be ridden and very important for horses of any age being brought back into work. A horse at any stage of training Will especially benefit from riding on a loose rein while on the trails so that they can negotiate the terrain while carrying a rider and needing to stay balanced. A rider with too much contact on the reins while out on the trail can inadvertently cause injury or get into trouble. Also, any horse at any age or level can benefit from the rider riding in the arena without using their reins. The horse learns to better balance and stay centered under the rider and the rider learns to better balance themselves on the horse without using the rein as a crutch and they better learn to use their seat and leg aides. A win-win in my mind.

I don't think Jafar's top is that bad. Honestly , people just like to be critical. Some horses dip a little bit more and It's not like he has a sway back and honestly he looks like he's happy and strong. as you stated you're working with your vet on making sure he's healthy, strong and happy. Arlo is so cute. Absolutely love your channel. You're wonderful with your herd.

Just think of things from Ezzie's perspective; Why do these people keep getting shorter?? Congratulations on your anniversary! And you are spending it together doing things you enjoy. So nice. Your horses trust you.That is priceless and you have worked very hard to earn it. These horses know you would never lead them into trouble. They looked so studious while you rode them; ears back for any words. Beautiful work.

Ahh how cool was this! Arlo & Jafar were naturals during the tackless riding. Such good boys!😍❤ Mushu is so cute, he is improving so much. Ezzy is such a sweetheart! She absolutely adores you!

This is a beautiful video to watch! The ultimate with horses (to me) is to be able to mount any horse in the yard and ride with as little tack as possible, which is really difficult. You did this and it looked so smooth and beautiful, both horse and rider! And happy 6th anniversary❣️

Oh lovely, I especially think this is a good idea. I could have ridden my mare like that too, but at that time 70’s no one I knew was doing that and I did not feel confident enough at that time to push forward with my gut. Sooo good to see you doing it with Arlo. He is such a sweet heart.

I learned to ride bareback as a young girl and once I actually had a saddle hated it. Never could I ride western, but ended up with a wonderful jumper saddle. Bareback is the bomb and always my first choice.

That was absolutely beautiful. Arlo 🙀. Jafar so sweet and beautiful. Mushu ALWAYS makes me laugh. Ezzi is so big! She looks taller than Ariel and Ariel isn’t exactly a dainty little thing🤣. Really looking forward to seeing Ariel move to the bigger stall. I’m so impressed with her progress. I have no horse experience but lots and lots of dog training experience so I have a little understanding of how much work you have done to reach this point. Her progress shows both your excellent work and her beautiful temperament & personality. It is truly a beautiful thing to see.

Arlo is so honest and happy, Jafar was so happy to try something new and show you his skills, and Mooshy is looking amazing! ❤ The "how big will Ezzy get?" bets are rolling in! Huge baby girl! And Ariel is feeling peaceful ❤

This was such a fun video of your beautiful and wonderful horse family! I love how openly loving and full of gratitude you are towards your horses. I’ve seen other trainers, be mostly just business in their approach. There’s a HUGE difference between your horses and others that live without the affectionate and love. You had enough rain to make puddles! I’m so jealous!!! I’m in southeast Louisiana, in a drought. Jafar has such innate STYLE! Mushu isn’t over weight, his backbone is short! He’s a round bellied pony type, and totally adorable ❤ (well, maybe a teeny bit chunky)
