Came across this by accident- years ago in the sixties and seventies as a truck driver I used to deliver them to Fletcher and Stewart in Derby they used to make sugar cane processing machinery for export. It 's not important to have them made to a strictly controlled metal specification or precision as they don't really mesh they intermesh with the cane between them. The really big pieces on the machine were the supports called headstocks which were carried as a wide load to the factory which could weigh I believe about twelve tons.- thanks for the memories

Visitei várias fundições no Brasil.

What professionals, I bow deeply to all these workers. Making the casting molds shows great craftsmanship. While watching I always fear for their delicate body parts because of the unprotected clothing, especially the vulnerable bare feet in sandals of these people are in constant danger. The machining is also incredibly clever with the fairly primitive machines and tools they use. I have a lot of admiration for these hardworking super professionals.👍👍

The total disregard for health and safety here is staggering - no personal protective equipment (toes, eyes and hands!!!), people moving randomly around cranes with molten loads, no audible warnings, totally chaotic workspace with stuff all over the floors and associated tripping hazards, it just goes on and on. I dread to think how many workers are injured here every year. Fascinating to watch but working practices definitely from an age gone by a very long time ago.

19th century pattern making and casting techniques and similar health and safety. Although I think the quality of the metal would have been better back then. No way the teeth on the gear will be accurate and to what tolerance? Its make it cheap and when it wears out in a very short time make another one. I doubt or hope they don't export.

The forging process was great, fascinating making those huge parts with so much manual labor. I am less convinced about the machining of the finished part tho... But perhaps for the intended use, they'll be just fine. Not everything is going on a space ship...

It's amazing how our high tech universe is built on such elegantly simple foundations. Also amazing......just the aim @24:00 to get the molten metal from ladle to mold. They opened the mold so fast, but that thing must have cooled for a day or so even though it was still steaming when they pulled it out.

the difference between molten and not is technically only one degree. A casting can be removed and still be 1000 degrees. why one would want to handle anything that hot is another story. might as well let it cool. @@terrencefoley509

My point was only how amazing Sand Casting can be. But I wouldn't be surprised if the gear & the metal are first rate......They're only skimping on wages, safety, health, human life, and all that other stuff poor people have to give up to get a job. The purchaser probably has great quality control. The cost of failure of a gear like that could be far in excess of the cost of an assay.......though I was surprised to see they seemed to be dumping random scrap into the crucible.@@richardmcelligott2881

I do not believe this gear will have longevity due to the mixing of different types of metal and the imperfection of the cast that can be seen, however these people's ingenuity is Amazing! They did it all that wearing flip flops!😃

?...hmm...Probably put several hundred different types of ' metal ' in the molten mix. This, makes for a new type, of ' metal '. Let us call it '' indiananium ''. Good job, men. Just wishin n' hoping, that you can afford REAL boots - for the job. And, a large fan........anyway...

The fundamental question is what they will be used for. After all, in these cottage industry conditions it is difficult to maintain a repeatable chemical composition of steel. The video shows deficiencies in the castings caused by the presence of gases and cracks. From our perspective, it is difficult to assess their depth and impact on the utility value. Apart from the above, I take my hat off to these gisers, they did a great job!!!
