    It's a product that gets tough use, but it's packaged with care. The smile on the worker's face as he was placing it in the box and wrapping it in oiled paper looked very proud. This is wonderful.

    I was thinking the same. Would have been easy to punch out smaller holes during the flat bar stage and bore to alignment at the end. But they are the ones doing the job, so there must be a good reason.

    That's a well done video and an interesting production process. Mostly manual -- there's clearly quite a lot of skill in handling the forging hammer at the start of the process. One puzzle is that I saw no QA to speak of. I would expect a load-bearing product to be subjected to a proof load, but that wasn't shown.

  • @williamhall9204

    @williamhall9204

    7 ай бұрын

    @Imissmusicvideos Yes you are correct. There is a tremendous amount of lifting of heavy loads in the marine cargo industry. However there is also a great amount of rigging equipment that is used for marine towing. Heavy duty shackles are an essential component when towing barges on the ocean or docking a massive container ship. Doing that type of job can be very dangerous, due to the extreme forces involved. Safety protocols must be strictly followed to minimize the hazards involved. You might be interested to know there are shackles manufactured today that are over WLL 1,500 tons capacity. Giant shackles like that are usually used in conjunction with huge wire rope slings. When working with rigging equipment of that size, a crane is needed to move and position all the main components.

    Great video! Some technical questions though: Why do you need oil paper at the end to present rust, since the shackles are already galvanized to withstand corrosion? They are build for years of service, right? And secondly: the nuts are tied for galvanizing, wouldn’t it make the Zink be applied unevenly at the „touching points“ of the tie? Thanks so much already, love that heavy machinery and all the work you do!

    The zinc is a very thin coating that's deposited and bonds directly onto the metal, so it has no problem getting in those tight spaces. Notice that they shake the pieces, too. Hence the wire and not like a flat clamp or anything. It's doesn't act like a solder joint where it stays in the gaps. But there is no sticking and dripping and hardening like a paint would do, so there's no little bumps or anything left where the contact occurs.
