That's just crazy interpretation. I'm a drummer, I had my doubts when I received a notification that Kent had selected this. Phil's music is most impactful with strong percussion - after all, he is an accomplished drummer himself. Mind blowing how Kent just gets it to work on an acoustic guitar. So impressive!

I just came across Kent's YT site and love all his covers But.. being a lifelong drummer, this one is beyond understanding. His ending is exactly how Phil sings it live.. Not on the recorded release. It's really impressive.
Percussion ☑ Vocal melody ☑ "I remember" ☑ Beat drop ☑ Masterful arrangement

Once upon a time, long long ago, in a land far far away, some of us who are musicians THOUGHT we had talent ... then this. I've been playing JUST the drum part to this song since it came out in the 80s. Three DECADES later you decide to play the lead, the harmony and the bass parts AT THE SAME TIME, on ONE instrument AND throw in the drum part ... making it ALL sound better than anything I could ever dream of playing. Jealous? Me? You're damn right I'm jealous. Kent, you're amazing. Please don't EVER stop creating. You are a gift to humanity.

It looks like his guitar is tuned to the key of A with melodic drone notes. I don't know why he wouldn't just tune strings without using capo on 2nd fret. Either way, Bravo! Check out Mr. Tommy Emmanuel kzread.info/dash/bejne/d4J-17B8m7PMqJM.html

@@zukipower9960 Fingerstylists, Bluegrass players exploits Capo, Varied Tunings, Reverbs for easy chord porgressions, continuity, transitions & playability. Barre chords are inevitabale when you're constantly in Standard Tuning & will greatly affect the smooth sound, continuity & playability of a Fingerstyle/Bluegrass player & has caused a lot of nightmare for these genres that's why these options are a saving grace. Mr. Emmanuel honed his expertise in Standard Tuning first, same as a Classical Player, then the rest of these tweaks & options followed suit. That's why he's the best.

@@fernandosanrafael5897 Sure, there are several ways to tune a guitar and throw on a capo. Very versatile and melodic instrument, that's why I love it so much. It's amazingly appeasing to the ears and if you can also play it, it's amazingly appeasing to the soul.

Right? To me that's one of the most impressive parts! It's amazing
This is the closest thing I've ever heard to a guitar actually speaking. You can almost hear Phil's word and intonation. Perfectly done! :-)
I can hear Phil Collins is humming along this with a smile on his face.

What’s really amazing is that he captures the feel of this song. He’s not using a drum kit he’s not using a lead singer with an incredibly powerful vocal but he is somehow captures the essence of this song. Great job

That drop for the drums was flawless.
The bass lines after the "drum fill" are outstanding!
I listened to the hundred of guitarists for 40 years. I have to say You are Best! Simply Genius! Every note is just perfect.
We may be witnessing the greatest acoustic guitarist ever ❤
Song choice, arrangement, and execution. Complex rhythm, multiple parts, getting the details of little things like effects or style choices from the original in while still totally making it your own, and taking us on the journey through the song with masterful attention to dynamics and arc. Leaving us wondering how you’re gonna handle some complicated piece of it, and then blowing us away when you do. You never miss. Stay humble with all that talent, Kent. Cheers from the US.

The Best Fingerstyle ever agree
silent chords and melodies he plays silently, emphasizes where its needed etc. Unreal guy. Precise yet emotional. A+ 5/5
I've never even been able to get my head around the drum beat, never mind this. Such talent.
I've been playing guitar for 20 years, and I'm quite competent in both technical playing and music theory. That being said, playing rhythm AND playing lead always blows my mind. Freaks of nature and I'm always in awe
I couldn't believe when I saw the title. How in the world could any solo guitarist take on this song?! I was really wondering how you could interpret the peak drumming part, and you really nailed it! Well done young man! It was incredibly satisfying to hear your version. Congrats to you!
The magic of Kent's virtuoso is he can transfer the note every word falls in, in the lyrics, with no fillers, i.e., all the words of the lyrics being played in their notes in the melody to his instrument. And he doesn't do this by single string picking or plucking but is using full chords with his alternate tuning. Now add to that the bass line, the riffs, and the percussion, and we can see his full talent on display. Just awesome.
@Jeorge_Supero

Yes, His percussion skills are really good too. He seems to like conga drums too Because I remembered since he was small he likes to hang out with his conga friend. He really adapted the skills required for this. what an amazing kid.
this is such an insane song choice. Kent's creativity never fails to inspire.
Wow! This is four parts played at the same time! Perc, bass, chords, melody. So many amazing guitarists on YT. This young man is definitely one of them!
This dude plays like he has 3 brains in his head... not understanding how he can do all that at one time.. I can barely walk and chew gum at the save time without overthinking it .....WOW
Perfect timing from start to finish. Kent has a ticking metronome for a heart! ❤️ Just awesome talent! Thanks Kent.

Wow! All of Kent’s arrangements are incredible but this may take the cake. I can’t imagine the synapse that has to be firing in his head to pull off this beat while playing. Great job!

Cool fact: probably his brain isn't doing any work. All the synapses come from the "spine" ( I'm Brazilian and English isn't my main language, so idk the correct term).
You’ve added another layer to the mood of Phil’s song. Hearing it played like this on an acoustical is life changing.

You sir, are brilliant, intentionally or otherwise. You pay Kent a sincere and self-effacing compliment full of humility, while simultaneously driving views for your own channel. 😁 And I must disagree. Your arrangement is good; this arrangement is just GREAT, so yours suffers in comparison. I couldn't hope to achieve either anytime in the foreseeable future, as I haven't nearly the dedication to the craft that either of you do. Which is to say, virtually none, as I am not even a guitarist, but simply a guy who can "play a little guitar".
I might be able to play the low E string of this arrangement after a couple weeks of practice. I can't comprehend hitting every single note, let alone without muffling it, picking every string at the exact correct time, and then adding freaking percussion on top of it. Crazy talented!
I'm laughing out loud to myself in disbelief at this, Incredible bud!
The outro is out of this world!
相変わらず天才です。技術だけでも天才なのに叙情的で素晴らし過ぎ…。間違いなく世界最高峰。
It is both inspirational and mind-blowing when next-level artists perform. Sit back and take it all in. It is a gift for all of us.
One of the best performances I've ever experienced.
夢見た感じ どこまでも突っ走って行ってほしい 応援しています
What i find very interesting about his playing, is how he can manage to incorporate the same feeling of the original song. It's all about timing, lightness on the right hand and high level o technique skills. In the world of stell guitar fingerstyle you no match for others. Keep up the good work, greetings from Brazil.

So, keeping perfect rhythm on the percussion while playing. The background percussion on the original is a loop. Also, the ending is more in line with the live version. This is FANTASTIC! Such skill and as always, your respect for the original feel of the material is second to none.

Oh my good grief. That was actually unbelievable, you could be one of the best players on the planet Kent
It’s like he isn’t even there he’s just watching two hands doing magic 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
That is absolutely tremendous. It was great all the way through but I was still not expecting what you did at the crescendo. My jaw just dropped.
I may be wrong but it seems Kent's arrangement is heavily inspired by Phil Collins' performance of this song at the 1986 Eric Clapton & Friends concert in Birmingham. Such a great choice and stylistic arrangement, mad respect
Your thumb/hand rhythm is subtle, complex, and aurally ‘delicious’. Melody & chord choices are excellent, as I’ve come to expect.
