Hi Danny - a really interesting video again - I thought bee keeping would be relaxing but on my last inspection I found a piping queen which meant only one thing - I think the key thing as a new bee keeper for me is knowing what action to take when you spot something out of ordinary - I am going to leave them for a couple of weeks in case the queen I found is a virgin queen

Hi danny, good video mate, probably would of removed the unhatch queen cell as you had just released a new queen in the hive. Cant wait to see how they get on in your next video, hope all goes well 👍🐝

That was a great professional video, ta for posting. Personally i think you did the right thing releasing the virgin back in. She looked good, the timings for hatching can cary a day or so either side. If the colony is not happy with her, then they will finish with her, but i recon she is ok. She is likely to kill any other queens in cells, so dont worry about that supersedure cell.

Also to say you are really good with your bees. It's good you have two colonies as that gives you lots of options! It might be a while before the Virgin mates and starts laying. 😊

Ahh thank you so much, that’s what I’m hoping she went and done so fingers crossed… not going back into that hive until another 7 days so that would had been at total of 14 days since this video… Given her time to do all what she needs to with out me bothering her/them..👍

Just subscribed. Been working on my bees today, boy it's hot in the suit. That was defo not your swarm but they may have been attracted by the smell of your hives.

Why do you think that hive did not issue a swarm? I believe it did. Checking in one week will not tell you anything. That virgin needs 12 to 14 days to start laying. 6 or 7 to sexually mature, a mating flight, and 6 or seven more for her eggs to develop. Checking before that puts her at risk. I recommend you wait 3 weeks. That way your inexperienced eyes will see some brood. Seeing the first eggs laid is very difficult.

I can’t see that the swarm was from my 2 hives as hive 1 still has the queen, hive 2 still had the queen cells even though I took all them out other then 1 and there still a hole hive of bees and frames of honey so it’s telling me they never swarmed from that hive too… Oh and yes I will not go into that hive now what with the virgin queen in it for minimum of 2 weeks now, thought I said that in the video… ? Maybe I never lol.. swarm all good atm 4.7 miles away so bringing them back late next week and can’t wait too look in there to see the queen..👍

So just confirm to me you've hatched a queen but leaving another queen cell in there that's also due to hatch? Would it not be worth either destroying the other queen cell or moving it into a nuc?

Well iv read that she being the first hatched can go and kill sister queens wiliest there still in there combs .? Like I say all through my videos im only a beginner so im only going by what iv learned so iv left her to see what happens to be fair, that first queen cell I left in the beginning i feel should of hatched by now and it hadn’t so spun me out a bit… 👍

New subscriber, if you leave cells when you've a virgin queen hatched you can get caste swarms, the first queen out doesn't always seek and kill others, they can just leave with some of the bees
