In this second episode of the In Focus webseries dedicated to A Plague Tale: Requiem, French influencer Maghla hosts a new talk with Kevin Choteau (Game Director), David Dedeine (Creative Director) and Olivier Ponsonnet (Art Director) from Asobo Studio to chat about the worldbuilding work done for this sequel.
A Plague Tale: Requiem will release October 18 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC and in Cloud Version on Nintendo Switch. The game will also be available Day One with Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC and Cloud.

The small detail of 'there are amphitheaters there, but they were slums in that time period' is emblematic of the attention and care put into this stuff. Love it! And I love the grounded outfits, too! They look even better than the first game's. Can't wait to see how everyone changes as the story progresses!

Yeah, Roman stuff fell into disuse after some time, so the local populace just started living in old Roman buildings. If I recall, the Romans had occupied France way earlier than this game is set in, like the 500s.

@@artusanctus997 Yup, sounds about right. The Roman Empire was massive at one point. And like you said, it makes perfect sense those dilapidated structures would be used in such a way. I truly enjoy that that aspect of the world building hasn't been forgotten.

@@TirOrah It's certainly something you oftentimes don't see in video games nowadays, that close attention to detail. It's easier to capture these details in narrative and character-driven titles because the environments are smaller. I think the Roman Empire in question was the Western Roman Empire, but I could be mistaken about that. The first game talks about Justinian's plague, which I believe had occurred about 1,000 years before the time period that these games are set in. I just love the history and the politics that these games have. It's what drew me in.

@@artusanctus997 Yes, I was out and about at the time, so I was too lazy to swipe 'Western Roman Empire' on my phone, haha. And I agree! This is exactly why I left my original comment. This devotion to historical detail is so exciting! The collectables in the first game helped me understand so much better what kind of world the characters were dealing with. It's incredible. As for politics specifically, I imagine we'll see more of that this time around! There are more adult characters this time around.

@@TirOrah It feels like a smaller scale Assassin's Creed but with a different focus, and we need more of these historical fiction games to saturate our markets. I think there are a lot of interesting stories to tell, and as the developers tell us, the Middle Ages are not that well known to us. I just know that when this game finally releases, I'll be just as enraptured as I was with the first one. Asobo Studios has the potential to become a huge developer, and I hope they do. They deserve the spotlight.

Hugo's death decision at the end of the game is a very stupid decision from the writer. We don't want Hugo to die. I hope Hugo comes back alive in the next part.........
