I think a lot of people are stuck on John being in the role, I've seen people talk about Pedro's age like John isnt a whole 5 years younger.
I still can't get over how brilliantly the scene transitions and title cards in The Suicide Squad captured the feel of a comic book, just one of the many things that makes it easily make my top five comic book film list. Plus no weak links in the characters, I remembered my friends and I talking about how any one member of the team being someone's favourite was hard to argue with. For me though Polka-Dot Man stole the show, great performance, fun practical effects and man I can't remember the last time I cared that much about a character death in a comic book film.
@rennythespaceguy7285
Ай бұрын
I think Polka dot man's story is made all the more powerful by the fact that it's sorta metatextual. Until this movie he was only ever treated as a joke past his debut, anyone who knew him knew him as a joke and he'd get brutalised or killed whenever he'd show up with very few exceptions and the readers were never supposed to care. In a way, far more than any other character who's been given arcs like this in different stories, Polka dot man was a character who didn't have a reason to live as the text he was in never cared for him, him finally being able to see himself as having worth before he dies is so powerful because neither the writers or most readers saw him as having a purpose and despite that he found one himself. I love that the final note for the character is ratcatcher keeping that fragment of his costume because it shows that he managed to make at least one person care about him

It seems like so many content creators like to feed off of negativity and drama, because humans are naturally pulled towards that stuff. It's like junk food for the brain. But when you realize it's not helping, that it's pulling you down with it, and what truly helps you feel better and improve yourself is positivity, you can unlearn that vicious cycle of being drawn to negativity all the time. I used to be subscribed to a lot of drama youtubers and now I rarely watch that stuff. Plus I try to not get drawn into the negativity of the world around me that's constantly pushed into your face in the news and social media. I try to focus on my own little slice of life, what I can control, what I can improve. It really does help. I think most people now a days are stuck in this vicious cycle of negativity and drama pulling them down and that's all they see in the world and so it just feeds into them feeling awful and depressed. Sorry for the rambling comment. Just stay safe ya'll and focus on the positives, however small those may seem. Try to improve your own sphere of influence one little thing at a time. If we all did that, the world would become a much better place. Not to say this is a cure all, but it definitely helps and is a step in the right direction. Enjoy the positives in life, because unlike what the media and people try to tell you, there's a lot in our modern world that has improved for the better and can help bring you joy and meaning!

My favorite part for The Suicide Squad was that when the cast was announced we still didn’t know who was gonna die. A returning actor in a team of course he’s gonna survive, a loveanle animal sure he might die James Gunn didn’t make it obvious who was gonna die and who was gonna survive

Hot Take: I think Peacemaker is the best thing James Gunn has done with the superhero genre, based on him merging his own style and the genre tropes and the runtime given for him to explore the characters. I know movies getting scrapped happens a lot but every time Batgirl is mentioned I just let out a sigh. That had so much potential especially with Michael Keaton, JK Simmons, and Brendon Fraser.
@ivanagustinortiz5237
Ай бұрын
A sigh is the minimum reaction the whole Batgirl situation can generate, you don't just nuke a pretty much already made 90 million dollar movie that sounded better than at least a third of what WB released with the DC IP. You can't convince me that Batgirl would've ruined DC as a brand when these guys released movies like Catwoman.
@marcamusprime9513
Ай бұрын
The tone for that film would be confusing for audiences. Her costume looks like a cartoon, but it’s supposed to be in the dark and scary part of the DCEU. And they probably thought that the race swap made her unrecognizable to comic fans. Which isn’t her defining characteristic, but it adds to the confusion. At least that’s what I think the SUITS at WB thought when they cancelled it.
@jayjohnscreations
Ай бұрын
@marcamusprime9513 I would buy that the suits would think something like that. Don't forget that the film was supposed to release post The Flash and feature Micahel Keaton as the default universe Batman. Then they decided to walk back that decision, removing Michael from The Flash's ending and his cameo in Aquaman 2. I'm guessing he was a bit more than a cameo in Batgirl meaning reshoots would cost more than the budget allowed, so they crunched the numbers and decided it would be more financially viable to just scrap it for taxes. Thing is they didn't even need to walk back the Keaton thing cause they were rebooting by the end of that same year, so it wouldn't matter anyway

Same in regards to BOP, I think die hard DC fans got hung up on Cass's portrayal being too different from her comic book counterpart and how the film felt more like a Harley Quinn movie than Birds of Prey movie, but every trailer *advertised it* as a HQ movie so I could never understand that complaint
James gun actually restored my hype and faith to see a live action dc universe like I grew up reading Superman and all these wild characters and I feel like after watching peacemaker and the suicide squad I’ve never been more hype not since early mcu days tbh
This is why I love your videos. I never know what the next is gonna be. Keep it up!

Margot is extremely talented, but Birds of Prey shouldn’t have been a birds of prey movie in the first place. Just call it Harley, don’t call Cassandra Cain “Cassandra Cain”, and I might’ve been more onboard. But I didn’t really dig the Black Canary’s fight style (an aspect of the character that matters), or Helena’s characterization. Harley and Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask was fun though.
vigilante is also cormac mcclaggen in Hary Potter. Such a different character lol guy has range

I really think ZSJL could have been 3 hours without meaningfully cutting it. You remove the completely pointless 30-minute Knightmare epilogue, and shorten the million times Wonder Woman does something in slomo while it goes “ahhhhhAaahAHHHahhhh”

Bingo, done. I’ve been very critical of ZS ever since BvS and retroactively man of steel I felt BvS dropped the potential ball I thought could’ve redeemed MoS. Despite my problems with his take on DC, I genuinely enjoyed his JL. But the slowmo, the chanting during the slow mo, the future segment. It’s like he was so close. There was no reason it had to be 4 hours. The part where the villagers sing as Aquaman walks into the ocean, I was super scared the movie was going to be the worst. I think he just needed someone to mitigate some of the pretentiousness.

Great video Nando! I also think Margot is a once in a generation actor who's more than just her looks. Yes, she's stunning but the work she puts in to hone her craft makes me wish she sticks around after the DCEU reset because her Harley is iconic. Having said that, I'm VERY CAUTIOUS about James Gunn spearheading the new DCU. Now I really loved the first Guardians of the Galaxy and I also really enjoyed The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, but I absolutely hated GotG vol 3. I wonder which Gunn we will get? If we get TSS and Peacemaker Gunn, then I think I will be excited for the DCU but I don't want that humor/tone in all the DCU movies. I don't think Batman or Superman or Green Lantern should have the same tone as Peacemaker. However, I think that humor style would fit well with Blue Beetle and Booster Gold.
