One thing I found was interesting was when she said that the Catholic Church of the Middle Ages should be judged by the standards of the times. Why? It's positing itself as a belief system that all should adhere to and abide by its moral standards, so why should we judge it by the contemporary norms? Shouldn't its conduct and moral authority and rules be timeless?

Here's examples from the Inquisition: it used torture to extract confessions. European courts outside of Britain used torture. Under Roman law principles all followed, you need two witnesses to override the denial of the accused. So courts used torture, as had the Roman's, to see if the accused would testify against himself under torture. Britain at this time was executing people for stealing a load of bread, dozens a year. The Inquisition allowed people to recant their heresy. The Inquisition was no kangaroo court. The Spanish Inquisition exonerated upwards of 90 per cent of those it examined. 10,000 executions are credited to it over 300 years.

But when he stuck to what he knew best, which was torching and showing the hypocrisy of all the illogical and how unreasonable the religions are, he was genius

I agree but also those abused by The Baptist Church, Jehovah Witnesses and The Salvation Army - all of whom have recently had high profile abuse charges.

She’s a preaches like the classic modern politician; a perfect blend of fluff and obfuscation. Hitchen’s eloquently represented the Catholic Church as a body politic, using utterances and dogma directly from the Pope and senior figures from within it. Widdecombe picked on anecdotes of individual priests who did good deeds despite the church, not because of it, and then assumed these formed a counter-argument. Thankfully the good sense of the audience prevailed!

Hitchens & Fry were demonstrably better in their opposition.

Ann Widdecombe sorted them out. I’d like to just say, live in Spain. The Catholic Church is feeding thousands of people. Kitchens and raw goods given for cooking. Not everybody gets the dole here. People would starve without the Catholic Church.

Maybe Britain consider them payment for all the cities, transport networks, education systems, etc. they built for those countries? And why won't the African countries pay repatriations to the descendants of the African-American community who they sold as slaves, and to the victims of the Barbary Coast Pirates who raided Europe enslaving millions in the process? Maybe when they remove the mote from their own eyes, they can then start point accusing fingers at others?

it's a followup to a video where hitchens talks about all the atrocities of the catholic church. I reeaaaally don't think this channel supports her, in fact she gets destroyed in that debate

SHE IS IGNORENT OF FACTS !!!!!!!

Saying "everybody else did it" and "we didn't know any better" is a poor excuse for an institution who claims to have a direct line to understanding God. I acknowledge they feed children. But the massive amounts of treasure and property shames them in percentages.

Jesus is the bridegroom and Church is his Bride. The Human bride, with all her imperfections. The imperfections of humans make the Church vulnerable too. But, with Jesus, she is stronger. Hitchens and Fry can never understand what it means.

Typically, people who stand against religion are only trying to validate their own lack of understanding of what spiritually actually means.

This woman is "full of it".

What a fine oration. If she were living in Ancient Greece I rather think those masters of the art would crown her with the laurels. Ultimately I think that her strongest point was simply that the Church was and is its people. The Church sustains them, guides them in their daily lives and comforts them in their last hours. But above all, the Church IS its members and if you condemn the Church then you must condemn the human race.

Since the attendees /parish members dont vote any of the administration I forgive them .
