It's truly remarkable how Tom's journey can appear as a string of lucky, coincidental events, yet in hindsight, it's clear that it was truly destiny.

I like what he said in the beginning about your thoughts becoming reality. A trope to be sure; but his delivery was genuine and full of love.

Dude no way. When I heard the first Blink records before Travis I knew he was exceptional. He was extremely technical back then but became simplified as Blink went pop punk with Enema. I'd argue he was a better guitarist back then. Now its all phasers and effects with Angels and bar chord stuff with Blink. Tom's early stuff was pure gold.

Same. Tom and blink are the reason I picked up guitar and grew up the way I did. When I was a kid, I would randomly write blink-182 lyrics and their logo all over my notebooks, homework, etc. Even now as an adult at 30, I have blink-182 lyrics in my work email signature and have their logo as a sticker on my work laptop. Now I’m working to save up for Tom’s Starcaster. We all grew up with blink and are still influenced by them. What a legacy.

I started playing because my friend in7th grade played me the blowjob song on the mark tom and Travis show, I asked him to burn the song to a cd for me-fully expecting a cd with 1 song on it. He burned the full album. When I heard that open E of dumpweed and the screaming crowd… my life was changed. I fell asleep to it every night blasting in my headphones, and got my mom to buy me a guitar and lessons. Then I got lucky and bumped into a friend who had a friend selling a black Tom Delonge Strat in my high school. I got it for $100, and my mom bought me that on my word that it was a killer deal. It was stolen from me 4 years later, but I just bought the color I always wanted… Daphne blue. 😁

What he said about having one person say they enjoyed your set and they see something in your band is genuinely the best feeling. My band played Chiddfest last year with some huge bands such as the Hoosiers and some older ones like East 17, Black Box and Lemar. We played on the Friday night, and on the Saturday morning when we were heading to the showers a dude recognised us and said how he thought our set was fucking awesome as he loved pop punk music. And it just made our whole year, that one random guy at a festival 😭

The voice-over at the start of this video is one of the most unintentionally Spinal Tap things I’ve heard in ages. “And when you open your mouth, and say words, words come out, and I say them, and they are heard, if there’s someone else there, and if there’s no one else there, they won’t be, but I said the words, so they were said, but what if I didn’t say them, or if I said something else, those would be other words…”

I’m 23, so I grew up in the wake of the first Blink breakup. I got into Blink because of my sister. It’s insane how much of an influence Tom had on me as a kid, a teenager, and young adult. I picked up the guitar because of him. Started to think about the world in a certain way because of him. It’s different now; I still love Blink and Angels and Box Car and +44, but I’ve grown out of that phase of life where you’re so open to influence. I still credit this man with playing an irreplaceable role in my growing up.

I didn’t start playing till 23. I played around 6 hours a day sometimes all day on my days off. Went from never touching a guitar to starting my own band because people blew me off because I only had less then 2 years experience and around 2 1/2 years my band was playing bigger shows, opening for national bands, getting played on local radio stations all because I heard Josie on the radio one night and said f**k it I’m gonna play guitar and be in a band. I never owned a signature tom delonge strat but I gutted a brand new red strat, put a black pick guard on it and invader pick up it’s the only guitar I’ve ever liked playing live

  • @SlyRyFry

    2 ай бұрын

The Epiphone dg335 does look amazing. The only problem is it's $300 more, made in China, and says Epiphone on the headstock. The starcaster is honestly an amazing alternative for anyone that was considering the dg335 but doesn't want to spend that much on an Epiphone. Save $300, it's made in a country with more consistent quality control, and it has a name you'd want on the headstock. Especially considering the price I think it's a big win for Fender, even though it's been in the works forever.
