In Conversation with David Frum: China's Potential Economic Crisis & Residential Schools

This is the thirty-ninth episode of The Hub's bi-weekly series featuring Sean Speer in conversation with leading author, journalist, and thinker David Frum. The two discuss the causes and consequences of a possible Chinese economic crisis and what it would mean for Canada and the global economy more broadly. They also cover renewed calls to criminalize so-called “Indian residential schools denialism” and why they should go unheeded by the Canadian government.
The Hub Dialogues feature The Hub's editor-at-large, Sean Speer, in conversation with leading entrepreneurs, policymakers, scholars, and thinkers on the issues and challenges that will shape Canada's future at home and abroad. The episodes are generously supported by The Ira Gluskin And Maxine Granovsky Gluskin Charitable Foundation.

Why would any serious forum have David Frum (David Frum!) as a commentator on China?

It almost seems that you need a relativity free market to determine the most productive ways to invest and use economic resources. Maybe that guy Milton Friedman some valid ideas on how the free market creates prosperity.

I wonder if they will find children's remains in unmarked plots like what happened with Canada's Indegenious residential schools.

No, because it would be so rude to look for the remains.

Its fashionable to think that Putin miscalculated but number talk. Look at the numbers he sent into Ukraine. No where near enough. He was also perfectly aware of what had been happening between the US and Ukraine with regards to funding, training and weapon's. He was using military action ask an extended political dialogue. It may have worked, given what we know about the peace talks and if the US, via Boris Johnson hadn't stopped the process Ukraine could have been a peaceful place by now.

One little observation. Yes US pilot's probably do get ten times as much flying time as Chinese pilot's. However, how would western pilot's cope with ten times the number of opponents. Given Chinese production and population size i think that is perfectly possible. Its the German tank against the Russian tank problem. German tanks were fine sophisticated machines but russian tanks were a pile of unsophisticated junk but numbers overwhelm. Same goes between the AK47 and so on snd so on. Much of what your guest is saying could equally be turned around on the west.

Why is my comment disagreeing about the gentleman saying he wouldn’t invest in Canada not shown or deleted? I wasn’t hateful or rude. I assume it was KZread because I was agreeing with the video. I was just suggesting China is not as business friendly or politically stable as Canada and provided sources that backs this up. I assume it was KZread who hid my comment?

Comical to watch Frum. He actually makes some good points. The funny partis his residential school arguement though a sad event is just the opposite arguement about Trump. His TDS seems to only kick in when talking about Trump. Hi backing of Iraq with Bush was a deplorable event in history. His TDS and Bush are his legacy. Writing for the Atlantic will be another winner for him.

Right.....so are we talking China or Belarus as "your" side of the world? Because people who put those comments out are either living in 3rd world countries or are just too broke to actually care about stuff like the rule of law. Which one is you?

Either neoCon or neoLib they speak as if from on high, as if their analysis is right and Libs especially as if they know what's best for people half way around the world or in the street. Neither of which they've actually spent time in.
