Happy anniversary! We are 62 and did the nuts thing by kicking of a Urban Farm today and was talking about hoe to make it low maintenance for when we need someone to take care of the crops, chickens, dog and cat. Cool ideas. Hope you had a fabulous time. 😇🤗👍

We use float valve watering units for our hogs 54 years ago. Only took them off to clean cause hogs will wash their snouts on the troughs.

Little Giant float valves that go at the top of the trough are better. No hole to drill and leak. The float is protected inside the housing so it can't be damaged. I've seen birds sit on the kind you have to eat bugs out of the trough or get a drink and they break the float, causing water to run constantly. Also seen cattle break the float off.

The farm is looking great. Unsolicited advice: You will need to run either electric or Barb wire on top of that woven wire fence. The cows will eventually push down on the top and go for a run ( learned that the hard way when I came out to barn and all the cows were at the neighbors farm).

OMG!!! I’m sitting here watching this video and you start talking about Picture Rocks national park. I grew up on the east end of Picture Rocks, it was my back yard when I was a kid. Everyone who lives in upper Peninsula are called “YOOPERS”. Everyone living in lower Michigan(below the Mackinaw Bridge)are called trolls. On a hose fitting, the threads do not create a seal. The rubber washer in the female fitting is what creates the seal. If it leaks, replace the rubber washer. You can get a dozen washers for a couple dollars.

Put a small piece of wood in the water trough so you can see it by walking by will help you to keep it full too. The wood comes in handy to pull it out and lay it across anyone's butt you have caught falling asleep you can heat up your branding iron and brand the piece of wood and wake them up!

Nice job on the feed trough!!! Being that you only have two legs supporting it you may want to consider drilling a hole in the bottom center of each leg about 6 inches deep and putting in a 12 to 16" #4 rebar which will stick into the ground so if the cows bump the feed trough or put any weight on it, it won't shift and collapse.
