Improve Sensation After Stroke
Sensory or sensation changes after stroke may not always take first priority over movement issues, but they can be just as frustrating. They can also potentially be a safety issue. If you have trouble with numbness, tingling, detecting pressure or touch, changes in temperature, proprioception, or stereognosis, this video is for you.
I break down 2 methods to address sensation changes after stroke: sensory reeducation and desensitization. I show you how to use common household items or things you can buy on the cheap.

@@PostStrokeOrg actually I don't have a specific diagnosis in mind, I'm interested in neurorehabilitation in general 💕
Thank you for this video! After doing the sensory reeducation daily for a couple months with a stroke survivor, he no longer has numbness and tingling in his affected arm! The affected arm feels the same as his unaffected side now. Should we continue to do the exercise regularly even after normal sensation has returned? Or is it ok to stop?
Thanks for the video on sensation change, i have tried desensitize my affected arm with stuff such as wash cloth and things , however, is there a way to desensitize myself from the sun, wind and rain, i have thalamic pain , am extremely sensitive to cold . like in your video above i believe my thalamus was badly damaged due to stroke. i was wondering if you have had someone with my condition that recovered from it
I had a craniotomy and have similar problems that a stroke patient does. I couldn't find post-craniotomy workouts advertised online -- so i have been following a post-stroke routine online. Do you think this is a suitable substitution?
Do you have a video for neck 🤔
The stroke patient has a problem, sensation Absent of upper extremity and hand , how to practice? Thank you
Im able to recognize something is in my hand, but there are times I can't feel. What are your suggestions?
Water and cold hands hurt my affected side. Why and what can I do about it?

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I hope you both are doing well! You may want to ask his doctor about something called orthostatic hypotension which is when blood pressure drops with position changes (sitting up, standing, etc). It can cause dizziness when standing and walking. But best to consult with the doctor to see what the best plan of action is for treatment!
After my stroke I associated touch as pain. If someone touched my arm I thought it hurt

@stevekierstead, Almost 70% of survivors deal with post stroke pain. That's a huge number and I don't think it's talked about enough! I hope that it's gotten better!

@vicky, If you haven't already, check out this video on improving hand movement: kzread.info/dash/bejne/p3adltxqmMXIcbQ.html
Hi I’m 54 and I had three strokes in one night so anyway I couldn’t move my arm at all it just hangs down but after the first month I tried and moved it sorry about my speech. Anyway Now I can move my arm, but I couldn’t feel my arm now I can feel it I can feel hot and cold and I can feel pressure all the way down my arm it seems like it’s coming from the top all the way down I can feel pressure on my fingers it’s been six months, I know you can’t tell me if I’m going to get any better but what do you think because it’s just getting better and better but a lot of the time when I read about it they said it’s slows down after 3 to 6 months. What do you think and thank you so much😁

Hey there! You're right that I can't tell if someone get back to 100%, but I actually recently made a video on this issue: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gomauY98qbaukdY.html Stroke recovery often does slow down after the first 3-6 months, BUT it doesn't stop! Check out that video and let me know if you have other questions 🙂

I had two strokes a few weeks ago. I don’t really have anything on the outside of my body wrong. I have numbness in my hand face and thigh and foot. It’s annoying yes. I can move my hand a foot normal. However when I touch something with my hand. It burns. It doesn’t make sense why it burns. My hand and feel swollen. I’m lucky every works right. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

@bigd, Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry to hear about your strokes and hope that you are doing okay. Numbness, burning, and tingling are often a sign of nerve issues. That may be due to your strokes and difficulty with nerve communication between brain and body. My recommendation would be to follow up with a neurologist about your symptoms if you have access to one!
