You're absolutely right about that lock tab. The lightweight nature does make it feel cheap, especially with the pre-break-in action. Demko really should have rolled it out as a cheaper version and, once the design became settled in the market, upgraded it to the current steel and scales, building on the popularity. Still, they're sold out at a lot of places, so they read the market fine.

He'll never do it, but if Andrew Demko came out with that $99 less premium version, I'd be all over it. I really like the format of the cub, but I can't justify the cost when I know it doesn't feel premium and it's going to give me shark finger. The more I play with it. I'm super fidgety.

If you’ve never owned a “shark lock” knife, it’s gonna be really interesting for you. I really like my 20.5 but this is a different animal. They leaned into practical use a little more which, to me, is a good thing. The 20.5 is great…it’s just a bit thick behind the edge to be a *superior* edc. This knife looks like it’s trying to solve that.

Kinda wish they chose a tougher steel if it’s really thin. Hopefully the 20CV doesn’t end up chippy. Cruwear or Magnacut would’ve been my choice. I’m sure more options will come out later tho

Interesting…I’m wondering if the absence of liners is gonna make for fewer aftermarket scale options. Micarta isn’t exactly a material that lends itself to a lack of reinforcement. That was a *big* selling point for the 20.5 and a reason I got one. Wanted tool steel…they came out in 3v. Not a fan of grivory…high quality micarta options popped up on the aftermarket. Bingo, good enough for me. I don’t mind aluminum or g10 particularly…I like my benchmade 940 and aluminum is a *huge* part of that knife’s vibe. It’s just nice to have options, I guess…

How does the cutting performance compare to the 20cv ad20.5? I definitely like the thinness, but I'm iffy on how short it is.

I haven't tried the AD20.5 20CV but the shark cub appears to be 10-20% thinner behind the edge vs my AUS10A or 3V.

Agreed! Sounds like they plan to see how these do then may consider that given the production costs of lower cost options. Cheers!

That is paying a thief that is profiting from illegal patent infringement while sending your money to China / Russia rather than a US company that pioneered an innovative new lock design. So... not sure I'd be bragging about that publicly.
