Put 10,000 racks on it. You’ll be fine. It’s one of the best actions in the world. You’re paying for the components and tolerances. Every single action is inspected before it goes out the door. If you’re just a weekend warrior the average person won’t see the difference. When you shoot thousands of rounds like I do in PRS, that action WILL NOT GO DOWN. When you break it in it will be super smooth. Try feeling an impact with 10,000 rounds through it. Also, for example the spring on that doesn’t need to be changed as much. I have a terminus and have 30,000 racks either the same firing pin spring. No issues. The action will be loose so it can cycle in harsh conditions. You made a good purchase. You won’t be disappointed.

I made the purchase based on tons of positive reviews just like yours. I assume it will break in just didn’t expect it to need as much break in as it needs I guess. Shooting the rifle today for the first time.

The looseness is normal like stated above, but that catch after the bolt lift is not. It would likely break in, but mine was not like that out of the box. Manufacturing errors happen, doesn’t matter the manufacturer.

I've got several custom actions including a couple Impact 737s. My impacts are my favorite. Both did take a little bit of breaking in and seem smoother once mounted and with a barrel installed. A couple reasons they're the number one action in prs is because they always feel the same regardless of conditions and cleaning regiment, they will run anything, each one is exactly the same, the availability of prefit barrels, and the fact Tate is one hell of a good guy and will do everything in his power to help his customers. Once you get a few rounds through it you will be pleased. Tate designed these for PRS/NRL, theyre supossed to be ran hard and fast. My Kelbly Prometheus and Atlas Tac actions are the smoothest. They blow everything out of the water as far as running the bolt goes. However there are only a couple barrel makers who will make prefits for them and those that do generally won't guarantee correct timing. The biggest thing with kelbly is that they won't reliably eject BR variant cases without a different bolt. If they did, I think they would be right up there with Impact, Defiance, and Lone Peak for popularity. Kelbly will do a 1 for 1 bolt swap for a bolt with a 700 style pluger/ejector to work better with BR cases for $10 to cover shipping.

Having it mounted in at stock makes a big difference in how it feels and they break in nicely. You made the right decision on which to action to purchase.

Outside of everything folks have mentioned in the comment section already, the real value of this action outside of its extremely accurate tolerances comes when you start running it in bad weather. Grit, sand, snow, water …I’ve seen even top-tier custom actions fail time and time again. I’ve been running Impact for eight years and I’ve never had a single failure, no matter what treacherous conditions I’ve put it in. You’ll be very happy with your purchase at the end of the day.

I’ve got one and like it quite a bit. I’ve never thought the lift was abnormally tough/heavy, and it does look like yours. They used to send two trigger hangers with it, so I’d check you’re using the one they recommend for the TT. Although I think I read they’re only sending one hanger now.

I can share with you, that mine was exactly the same. When you have it mounted up in a rifle and you actually cycle it, and have some rounds through it, it will “settle” in and smooth out. It’s a premium action, and I can share with you that I have Defiance, Falkor, Zermatt, Lone Peak, Kelblys and terminus, and they all feel a little stiff right out of the box. Give it a little time. This is normal. Don’t question yourself.

I have a 737R action and I suggest you take the bolt apart and check the firing pin extension and amount of clearance it has in the bolt. Check sear for roughness. Check the firing pin spring to see if it is dragging in the bolt. Finally check the rear of the shroud and look for signs of rough machining. I just got mine back from my gunsmith and these were all problems he found after blueprinting my action. The rifle only had 100 rounds though it.

I received my 737r about 2months ago and experienced the same feelings in the action. I’ll agree with everyone here and say run it, after about 250 rounds it feels smoother than my defiance with 2000 rounds in it. You made a great choice with impact, trust me

  • @029ESeid
    @029ESeid2 ай бұрын

I think this is a testament to the Seekins action. 2k rounds might not be a lot to some, but that action has handled a lot of curve balls you have thrown at it. For example, going from the exotic 6BRA to the 7SAUM. I know you mentioned there have been feeding issues, but outside of the barrel - you have used the production components and the accuracy has been great.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. So, the greater the action the more you will have a bad reaction. You did the research PrecisionRifleBlog and the impact was by far the no. 1 choice.

Welcome to custom actions Rob! It'll be fine. Drop that Impact in a chassis or stock and run it for a while. I felt the same way when I first got my Defiance action. It'll break in fine. It also feels MUCH better once barrelled and set in an action. I was coming from Tikkas so I was very concerned, but I couldn't be happier with it after regular use and I'm sure you will be too.

In my opinion. Impact and the Lone Peak Fuzion are more precision rifle “type” actions. They are the off-road actions that will take abuse with the elements. I got a Lone Peak Fuzion. Was disappointed at first, then I did some dry fire practice while running the bolt somewhat fast. I love it now! Much smoother. You get use to the “hitch” on the Impacts. It’s not noticeable running the bolt in a match.

  • @andrewmconrad

I just got my first action and it's the same 737R. I experienced the same things when cycling the bolt. I think it's easy to assimilate the issues with the bolt, but it's tough to make a solid argument because there's no weight associated with action other than the action itself. I have a savage 93R17 and it's tough with the rifle weighing as little as it does

  • @lanehenry

I have a brand new 737r and was also disappointed considering all the hype that’s out there around it. Like you, I’m hoping it breaks in over time and I’m sure it will. I bought a Lone Peak Fuzion before the 737R that felt smoother and with less bolt lift. But my big complaint about the Fuzion was the fact that brass was hitting my scope. In my opinion you shouldn’t have to tune a $1,400 action out of the box, so I sold it.

  • @PracticallySquared1

Its hard to judge an action without having it dropped in a chassis/stock or putting rounds on it. Give it some time, im sure youll like it. Especially when you go to a match and see other actions choke.. As far as custom actions needing broken in, my opinion is it has to do with the coatings. The coatings wre fairly thick and as it wears thats when it should smooth out. Impacts are toleranced so that their not super tight, so that they can run in field conditions. All that said im interested to see what more you have to say. Just subscribed!

Any custom action over $900 should be smooth. Being loose half open doesn't matter, it's when fully forward that matters but depends on how it was made. What's probably more important than any of that is the bolt and firing pin assembly as far as good accuracy, repeatable ignition. I love my Stiller action, I would put it in the top 5 and priced better than others.

  • @Off-target-xy6bx

So you’re fighting yourself on the action. The action isn’t supposed to be racked in the manner you’re doing it. The reason the action seems stiff is you doing two motions. Hence when it’s laid in a receiver the action is “lighter”. The slop isn’t the best, but from what others have stated it’s intentional for reliability. Which is makes sense with various mag follower styles people will use and dust/debris that could start to gum up the action.

Send it back that hang if you look at the bolt lugs the slide groves on the right side has a gap it was not cut out right, that is where the snag is, I have and 700 rifle that there no catch but the gap takes some of the lug locking space away. I thought that was to much gap. LOL LOL LOL the slop when the bolt is back I would not worry about it. When the bolt is locked and cocked how much pull back on the bolt less is better and would make it harder to lift the bolt. Your going to get into competition you don't need any hangs. Plus you need a lighter firing pin and stronger spring. That is called lock up speed. I have a 700 police the gap is small and no hanging up made in the late 90's there craftsmanship and then you have slop. I am no gunsmith and I can be wrong. I have never found a gun smith that I liked or trusted.

Your expectations are a bit off for what you purchased. The impacts are smooth cycling, yet reliable in less than favorable environments. The bolt lift can be adjusted by modifying the cocking spring, but you can loose reliability depending on primers used. The cocking action will appear lighter once it has 13-17lbs of barrel, chassis and scope attached to it as well. If you want silky smooth that functions when it’s clean, there are smoother benchrest actions out there. If you want a rugged and reliable action, the Impact 737 is a solid choice.

@@RobsReloading I purchased a Origin from Zermatt after I read a ton on actions. I was initially interested in the 737r but for the price tag I was not sure if it was better to purchase a Terminus action vs a 737. It almost felt that people boasted about the action as a way to validate their purchase. I own a Bergara HMR wilderness and when I got my Origin it felt rougher than the Bergara.
