    @@TheRoadhammer379 it's all relative, but ammo isn't free and you need somewhere to shoot those distances, perhaps a spotting scope and a buddy to help save time and wasted shots.... a new ktm is about $11k in America, then you proceed to tear it up from there.....long range shooting might be cheaper in the long run, especially if you factor in injury and time off work , medical bills....

    I love the workbench/ reloading setup you have. I like seeing these setups in small spaces because it’s similar to what I have to work with. My bench is in my bedroom and also functions as a desk for college work! Gets cluttered but works well for gettin the grades and makin good loads!

    If you shoot prone a mat is a nice piece of kit to have. Also an inch pound torque wrench, screws do loosen on the optics.

    I went to my first PRS match today- just to observe. It was pretty much everything I've always heard you say. Of course there were the cliques; friends that have been doing it for months/years. There were also one or two newbies. I know this because I overheard a couple more experienced shooters offer advice and gear. 99% of the rifles were in a chassis of some kind but I did see one in a normal stock. It definitely piqued my interest a bit more than it already was. One thing I did see that I need to upgrade was my bag. I use a small rear bag and need something large enough to put on an obstacle

    I need to try my hand at some shooting matches. We have them pretty frequently at the TCSA here in WA. I still need to get a good scope, but for now, I've been mastering the A2/A3 style iron sights on my personally built AR-15. Also been trying my hand shooting at 1,000 yards with my brother's .30-06 Winchester XPR with a 3-9x Leupold scope. That shit's pretty damn hard, especially with the rippling landscape that causes sudden swells and directional shifts in the wind.

    Thanks for the great video! Very informative. It clarified for me somethings I needed to know and somethings I don't need to buy. I'm looking to get into precision rifle shooting next year when I graduate school. I grew up hunting with my longest take down being 115 yards, and have shot pistols most of my life. If you don't mind I have a question for you. As a professional shooter, what rifle and scope would you recommend with a $1,500.00 budget to get into long range competitions? My understanding form some videos I've seen on here is that 6.5 creedmoor is a better round because it has a flatter trajectory. Any advice you would give me will be greatly appreciated.

    First and sec focal is one thing, but don't count out fixed scopes. Often they are the big laugh but in many ways the most secure, less things that could f up, pro, con is as big as with variable scopes. are you comfortable with them they are rock solid and for less cash with better glass on the high end.

    As someone who is just starting out... And shooting a 300 Win Mag with a sport stock and barrel... I have to say that a competition stock and muzzle brake are almost in the must-have category. You can absolutely do without them. But accuracy will suffer and you're going to take a beating if you're shooting a thumper.

    @Jason Cole Need to have: 1. High paying job 2. Flexible work schedule, 6-7 days of 12hr shift might make the purchase possible and support the sport, but it won’t allow the time to practice or go to events. 3. Family support; required if you wish to continue putting time into the sport as well as having a place to go home to(happy wife, happy life, the opposite is no bueno)!

    My range has forbidden muzzle brakes. I guess they annoy the other shooters too much, so suppressor is the only choice other than a plain muzzle.

    A lot of ranges do to be fair. A suppressor will function similar to a muzzle break in terms of recoil, you just have to watch for heat build up, as it won’t dissipate in a suppressor like it will on a muzzle break. I have a DPT suppressor that I used on a .300blackout bolt gun and it was great. It’s made up of modular baffles so you can add or take away more baffles chambers to suit. Makes it easy to clean as well.

    @@IMPACTSHOOTING Makes sense but I wasn't expecting that answer. I just discovered your channel today because I also have a Howa in a MDT ESS chassis and wanted to learn about your setup. I Googled "Impact Shooting scope grip tape" to figure out what it's for and this answered it. Thank you for your content and efforts.

    Why do you prefere FFP scopes?

  • @mannvsfood

    @mannvsfood

    because poa/poi is the same no matter what magnification you are at. SFP all that changes as you zoom in or out of magnification, there is only one poa/poi spot. Up or down from that and you have to recalculate.

  • @christianbehier2221

    @christianbehier2221

    For the Vortex PST (6-24 - 50mm) SFP MOA scopes the large subtensions in your reticle are 1MOA at 100yrds, with the smaller subtensions to be 1/4MOA - at full magnification of 24x. The calculation comes into play when you magnify down by 3/4, 1/2 or 1/4 (18x, 12x, 6x). Say you go down to 12x, then what was 1MOA at 24x, is now 2MOA. In a competition, this math can be harder to adjust your POA by dealing in your scope based on your last POI given what you see as an adjustment through your scope has to be adjusted for your magnification. With FFP, the subtensions don’t change based on magnification no matter how your magnification is set to, thus measuring your POI to your POA is what the reticle tells you. Thought it was worth expanding on Mann Vs Food’s explanation above with a specific example. ;)
