Imagining the Future: The Transformation of Humanity | Peter Diamandis | TEDxLA

In this landmark talk, Peter Diamandis shares how we are rapidly heading towards a human-scale transformation, the next evolutionary step into what he calls a “Meta-Intelligence,” a future in which we are all highly connected -- brain to brain via the cloud -- sharing thoughts, knowledge and actions.
He highlights the 4 driving forces as well as the 4 steps that is transforming humanity.
In 2014 Fortune Magazine named Peter Diamandis as one of the World’s 50 Greatest Leaders.
Diamandis He is the Founder & Executive Chairman of the XPRIZE Foundation which leads the world in designing and operating large-scale incentive competitions. He is also the Co-Founder & Exec Chairman of Singularity University, a graduate-level Silicon Valley institution that counsels the world’s leaders on exponentially growing technologies.
As an entrepreneur, Diamandis has started 17 companies. He is the Co-Founder and Vice-Chairman of Human Longevity Inc. (HLI), a genomics and cell therapy-based company focused on extending the healthy human lifespan, and Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of Planetary Resources, a company designing spacecraft to enable the detection and prospecting of asteroid for fuels and precious materials.
Peter Diamandis earned degrees in Molecular Genetics and Aerospace Engineering from the MIT, and holds an M.D. from Harvard Medical School.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

The most important resource we have is not human intelligence, but Love. I know, sounds corny, but intelligence can serve madness just as readily as it can serve good. Human intelligence is but a tool to be used in service. Good talk, btw. I love this stuff. Also, Love also sees the power of accelerating returns. We use a higher level of consciousness to reach the next just as we use faster computers to create faster computers.

Emotional intelligence (love and empathy) is an aspect of intelligence. Morality and wisdom are also both aspects of human intelligence.

  • @kaosfatum

    @kaosfatum

    6 жыл бұрын

Empathy is defined as the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Love is a complex emotion built on many emotions. Thus making it not able to be used in this perspective at all, it is a neuroscience field day. Emotional intelligence is defined as the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. So it does use empathy but not love, more apt explanation would be cognitive awareness and empathy. Morality is defined as a particular system of values and principles of conduct, especially one held by a specified person or society, in this capacity. Wisdom is defined as the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment; the quality of being wise. Both are quantified through experience and perception. Neither which has anything to do this human intelligence. Where Human intelligence is defined as the mental quality that consists of the abilities to learn from experience, adapt to new situations, understand and handle abstract concepts, and use knowledge to manipulate one’s environment. So as they are connected, they are in no way aspects of them more apt would be that they are a link in the chain but not close enough to be aspects. But with the layman understanding they do correlate. If Human Intelligence is a mere tool to you then have misused the neural plasticity quality on your mind by limiting it to a mere tool. Additionally, anything can serve madness, by putting that out there you went down a rabbit hole of nonsense and never explained why love is the most important resource we have. I think the most important resource humans have is neural plasticity. ~Alexithymic Transhuman

He was talking about human intelligence being more important than artificial intelligence, rather than intelligence compared to emotions. This is good since we want to make sure the dominant intelligence on the planet is value aligned with humanity. Rather than creating something that could easily destroy us, we can upgrade ourselves.

We will be connected to cloud. We no longer put the same species. This is terrible. It’s unavoidable. And it is nothing to be excited about. When we finally Become like Gods. Then it will happen

The i7-6950X actually has not a clock frequency of 60GHz. There are no commercial general purpose CPUs at that clock speeds. But on the other hand it has 10 cores, 20 threads. So what he means is that 3GHz+ times 20 threads is comparable to a 60GHz CPU. That's not really true but considering the non-technical audience it is a rough guesstimate that can be accepted. Besides he's talking about other stuff, the i7 is there just to make an analogy.

It is true, production costs become less of a lot of things, but Costs of living is still rising. To be able to buy a computer suitable to current programs you simply spend more, so for most what computers promise either stays out of financial reach or is forced onto them. Housing is still getting higher, med costs still rising, taxes in flux, etc. On and on we see that base amenities are met better but access to quality becomes smaler

There is a scary part, where one might come to believe that being connected to everyone else might mean to become one with all others and become some sort of a single character or personality as in Star Trek where she says: I am The Borg. There is, however a difference between, on the one hand, transparently sharing all the information and then, on the other hand accessing some part of that data and processing it to recombine it into different conclusions or solutions. So, by the way, individuals process data, those individuals will exist. Maybe, that is not so new. After all, there are more couch potatoes than there are original thinkers. Only some are fortunate enough to stand out above the masses.

I always adored you mr.Peter di amndis. This is for your practical optimism as to future of mankind. You are committed to the welfare of mankind. You speak of exponential rate of technological innovation. But let us not be happy with exponential rate of technological innovation lone. Let us at the same time be very cautious about the direction toward which this will take us to. We must have definite design for future civilization of mankind. And all our devotion be directed to achieve that in definite and anticipatory not. With my concern I am putting to you a proposition. Please be so kind as to consider the same. Because your consideration will Cary true value. This is Let us defend humane grace in automation: Autonomy of automation must not be allowed to go beyond humane level. Let us give serious emphasis on the innovation of method or technique or software development to ensure the same with true urgency and fastness. Let us make a definite design for future human civilization before it is too late. Otherwise, the grace of humane boundary will be recklessly broken by wrong choice of research objective. *** *** 6.1.19 Prof.Dr.Mokhdum Mushrafi

Per capita income is meaningless when half the worlds wealth is held by some 64 people. Global income was given a huge boost with what was deceptively "quantitative easing", ie. printing more money. Life expectancy increased dramatically into the 60's and 70's since then it has been flattening out. The same goes for food costs. What is not being talked about here is what industries call "externalities". These are the costs that industry avoids paying by shifting them on to consumers and governments. An example of this is the cost of pollution and the generation of enormous amounts of waste.

This guy is an optimist and not overly realistic. All of what he says sounds good in theory but the timeframe only takes into account all things going precisely to plan. How about delays, disruptions in this technology, funding, mistakes, other issues, whatever. You can plan & prepare as vigorously as you want, but just because you can't foresee a problem in the future, doesn't mean its not going to happen. Actually, generally you will run into issues you never predicted, espically over such a time span. A million things can and will go wrong between now and 2035. In my opinion, it is incredibly unlikely our brains will be utilized in this way by 2035. I could be wrong but it's just my feeling.

As he said its based off things like Moores law which is not effected by interruption, which he also covered.. Also mind you this does not even concluded projections form 3d chips, biological, quantum, etc.. Everyone and there mother was resistant about this being even remotely possible for 100s of years. Not only is everyone jumping on board now in the areas pushing these industries but they time frame is going down. The fault here is not understanding this line of thinking is linear.. Its going exponential, all of it. Also these are the people who have already been changing the world right under our noses. When this guys company alone (3 others also doing now) mine even a palm full off material from an Asteroid they will be the richest human in history. The other issue is if the world does not handle AI as one then whatever one person gets the lead will rule the world. We really are talking movie lvl stuff here. Musk is already talking about putting his vertical flight system on cars LOL. Just to do it.. He does not believe that flying cars are the answer atm. Like he say's people still ride horses. The rest will move on.. Lastly with AI really being a thing these situation that could arise will either outright be the end of us or AI will find a way not only around but to even empower it in a positive manner. Exponential brainpower is not even swayed by such things.

    1) How we raise & educate kids: - It's now too expensive to have them and we don't teach them how money works, nor how to think critically or how to properly process information (misinformation in particular) 2) Governing ourselves: - Capitalist exploitation is rapidly resulting in fascist levels of 'governing' 3) How we connect: - Less and less, since most 'connections' are now "likes and comments" 4) Employment: - Working so subsist (not even living any more), entertainment is turning into a money sink for the consumer, commerce is rapidly changing to monopolies. Innovation does not come from stifling people's ability to exist. 5) Multi-planetary species: - Only for the rich to live on the cleanest planets and to exploit the resources & the poor Technology is rapidly changing, but the human mind simply cannot keep up and keeps being stuck in 'greed' mode. Look, I believe in human potential, but I've long since lost my faith in humanity.

I wish I could be optimistic about the future but right now I feel like things are getting slightly worse. Automation is decreasing demand for human labor but not decreasing the cost of basics like housing, transportation or food-leaving more people with a declining standard of living and sadly in many instances homeless. Public policy and even individuals rather than moving towards greater assistance of the poor are moving more towards abandonment and disenfranchisement of the needy and protecting one's own personal, family and national interests. I hope I am wrong but my great fear is as our dependence on technology decreases our dependence on each other is that we will grow colder and more apathetic leading to greed and self-destruction.

If you live in the west then automation is not the reason as to why peoples purchasing power has decreased. There is simply very little manufacturing happening in the west. That means the jobs that lower skilled people would do have disappeared.

These inspirational videos for general audience are nothing more than bright fairy tales. Remember yourself 10-20 years ago - what have you thought or have been told the future would have been by now? I bet nothing like the world is today. The future will be... different. And we might not be ready for it.

It's an invigorating concept to have 8 billion minds on the internet, but universal Wifi still won't solve the infrastructural barriers preventing people from accessing the internet. How can the internet be used if you don't have access to an affordable computer? Or electricity to charge that computer? Yes, the humans are now an urban species with over 50% of people living in cities; however those unable to afford new technological inventions, those living in rural places, those displaced and all the others without access to computation devices for any number of reasons will still be left behind in this growing gap. Technological investment needs to be matched with infrastructural and developmental investment for this goal to be reached. Let's not forget the importance of equity and development in accomplishing these incredible goals.
