1:41 I am really impressed. Those panels that burst off of the Falcon cover up some gaps I was mildly concerned about when I saw the Solo Falcon with a module. Good job!

Han may have flew it and drove it better but Lando took better care of the falcon tbh!

@GrantKP In the words of Luke Skywalker, "It's a piece of junk" The original design is cool and iconic, no doubt about it. But it's made to look worn and dirty and broken. That's literally the design philosophy they had going into it. Conversely, Lando's version is intentionally made to be the Falcon when it's objectively newer, cleaner, and more well maintained. That's not criticizing the old design, that's just the entire point of the new one.

@GrantKP If you're really a fan of the OT you would know that George and the design team wanted the Falcon to look like a junk, hence, in every movie, the falcon is referred to as "piece of junk" or "garbage" in TFA. Luke said it, Lando said it, Rey said it, even Han admitted it didn't look like much. That isn't disrespecting, it was meant to look like a junk, in fact that's what's good about it, knowing that that "piece of junk" is the fastest ship in the galaxy

I think the origins of the Falcon is not necessarily the escape pod, but more about it being a Corellian Freighter. Those mandibles are used to magnetically hold large cargo containers for transport. When Lando took ownership, he retrofitted the empty space to hold an escape pod.

People now think this info is canon, but it's actually not. It stems from concept art for Force Awakens, but since it never appeared in any official media like that, it's non-canon.

@@larnregis Firstly, the falcon isn't jus ta space ship, it flies in atmospheres all the time. Secondly, when was 'sense' ever a factor in SW ship designs? :D

The version in Solo looked so slick and beautiful! I loved it! Yet it still can’t beat the beaten up and battle scarred falcon from the Original and Sequel Trilogies.

The amount of detail used on parts of the ship that maybe show up for 1 or 2 seconds max is impressive. It's enough to make my own modeling rig shudder

Its a shame this movie had such small box office. I think it deserved a lot more

I never saw Solo at the cinema due to lot's of criticism with the film from people online, I recently picked it up cheap on dvd and loved it. I loved the story and what they did with the Falcon and how it change, in face my only criticism with the film is I feel their should have been more in it on the Falcon and its history. Great effects, well done!

No hate here. In the Star Wars Universe, YT-1300 freighters were deliberately designed to be highly configurable and easily modifiable as a selling point. So it's believable that it would be made to look more "high-end". There were a lot of times when Han and Chewie were low on money when they had the Falcon so they would have sold parts of it now and then to survive. That's why the sound system is missing.

I have run into some people who took one look at this version of the Falcon, and were spewing a lot of hate and unfair criticism and tweeting #NotMyFalcon and it made me roll my eyes, mainly because they didn't even see the movie, these reactions were pre-release so ... yeah, a bit premature and immature. But yeah I love this version of the Falcon when Lando owned it, like if I'm Lando of COURSE I'm passed off the next time I see Han and I'm like "What did you do to my ship?!" 😂

I love that L3-37 became the soul of the Falcon.

I loved solo and I would love to see another solo movie. Love to see the missions han went on working for jabba.

When I heared about the falcon being redesigned I thought it would be a reboot so I kinda got mad. Glad it's not and I also really enjoyed this movie

You guys done a fantastic job, I actually wish this was the og design for Falcon 😃 Can't wait till the day these types of ships exists

The bit about damage, am intrigued how they broke the ship. Was just reading about a kinda auto break crumple done in the movie Mortal Engines. They didnt have to pre cut break geometry.They could take a slab define it like wood, it splinters like wood, cutting it for you, or define it as steel and it rips and bends procedurally.

Crumpling is different than sheering. Where that dynamic stuff usually works for games, for movies you often want things to either rip off exactly how you envision them at the right moments, or you want to make it as natural as possible in its own weak points and things like that, because sometimes a computer can get it wrong. So, I think maybe they felt pre-cutting the geometry was easier than fixing any weird animation bugs from procedurally generating it, as well as fitting the quick cinematography. If it was just a simple crash landing or something trivial, that's one thing. This is a gradual dilapidation to literally serve a thematic purpose, so they'd definitely want all the control over it. Not sure what you meant about the wood though. As in, why they would define it as such for procedural breakage. A ship that has never known a wooden component in its 100+ years of service, would not splinter like wood even remotely.

This type of short doco is quite cool. I'd love to see more

This was entertaining enough. It just needed to be four times longer.

I remember the Ralph McQuarrie falcon painting and in my imagination that's sorta what it looked like before it got all stripped and grunged. Ship has lost 3 dishes in a row like trek redshirts. Wish dish#4 was painted red.

It's only lost two dishes. If we go chronologically, it lost it's first dish in the Maw, and it list it's second dish during the Battle of Endor.

We all know Lando had the ship before Han did and heck we knew how Han got it from Lando. What I wish I could’ve discovered was who had it before Lando did. I remember a hardcover book back in 95 theorizing Jedi could’ve used it during the days of the old republic. That story would’ve been awesome.

I really hope there will b a sequel to Solo, the movie was good and bringing Maul into the mix at the end as a cliff hanger I feel there needs to b a continuation of that story. Maul alone would make a great stand alone film, that character has a lot of potential that we never got to c on screen minus the Clone wars series and Rebels.

Yes, the Lando falcon had just under 3 million visible and since the multiple iterations of damage were stored as one setup it had, in total, over 12.5 million.

Best character portrayal in Solo was The Millennium Falcon

The only problem I had with it was the BLUE detailing. Wouldn't it have been RED? In the OT, there are remnants of red panels, but not a hint of the blue ones.

I never really liked the idea of the Falcon being in pristine condition under Lando's care and then Han kind of let's it turn to junk to keep it off of imperial radar. I know you can interpret and re-interpret lines from the Original trilogy any way you want, but Lando's comment in The Empire Strikes back about the ship having saved him several times, She's the fastest hunk of junk in the Galaxy, really gives the impression that even when He owned the Falcon she was a beater, that just happened to have a massively tuned Hyperdrive installed.

What was your pipeline on this movie

I just heard about and supported a petition to save Star Wars toy designer Mark Boudreaux who designed Kenner’s Millennium Falcon. Laura Lee Anguilar started it 4 weeks ago and provided the following details. Mark Boudreaux is currently at the Bethesda North Hospital in Ohio, having been there for over a year on a ventilator as treatment for covid, which "appears to contradict every health care standard when it comes to ventilator use." (as reported by the Epoch Times article, 'Star Wars Toy Designer's Galactic Battle over Covid ventilator use' - March 9, 2023) Mark is in a catch-22 here, as the extreme amount of time on the ventilator has destroyed his lungs, causing him to require a lung transplant that he is not eligible for because of the destruction of his lungs and health as a consequence of his treatment at Bethesda North. This beloved toy designer and his wife have exhausted every avenue of assistance in their cause, except for their fellow Americans who can come alongside them to put a spotlight on the parties that can alleviate the suffering of their patient. There oath requires that 'first, they do no harm' - but if they fail in their oath, they should do everything in their power to restore the health that their actions and protocols have diminished. This man wants to live! In appreciation for all he has done for us through his talent and designs, let us help him to truly enjoy the rest of his life as a healthy human being again. How it should've gone imho.. Han and Lando look at the ship he's won at beginning of film not the end. Han "Wow...Great ship" Lando " that's not your ship" Camera shows a shiny new ship that's not the Falcon. Han "hey, I won your ship fair and square " Lando "you did...my other ship" Camera pans to another ship...the Falcon. It looks old and neglected like a barn find having been replaced by Landos new one some time ago. Han "she's beautiful" It should've been better looking in A New Hope...Han loves that ship it should've been like a rolling restoration for him not a new looking one he neglects to the point its goes from new looking to junk.

The escape pod thing is just ridiculous. Those round protrusions on the sides are where the escape pods should have been.

There is a disturbing trend in sci fi lately of turning every franchise into ether the BSG reboot, or Guardians of the Galaxy. You really don't have to reinvent the wheel or introduce a franchise to "A new generation." While execs might not even know what they are producing for, most of us who consume it do. Star Wars never went anywhere. It was never forgotten. And like Star Trek, it didn't need a newer grittier funnier "bad boy image". The reason this movie did so poorly is that it absolutely reeks of nostalgia exploitation. "How can we make these broke ass plebs throw more of their money away?" That sentiment is in every frame of this film. And in the Trek reboots, Discovery, and the live action cartoon remakes. Stop. We aren't vending machines you plug buzz words into and receive money. Treat us like intelligent human beings. You can at least do that. That is bottom rung humanity 101.

VFX are top notch but there's really a lack of story, thinking and soul in these new movies...

Solo is the worst thing Disney did to Star Wars, that's not the true story, they had the perfect actor in Anthony Ingruber to play the character but they choose someone who looks like Speed Racer!!!, Lando doesn't look like Lando or a younger version of Billy Dee Williams. Only Rogue One and The Mandalorian have respect for the original saga.

Fact:ILM made a extremely ugly Optimus prime design that everyone hated.

If it's a character then why did you replace this beloved character with CG? CG is soulless.

No comment about making the ship consistent with the Falcon in Revenge of the Sith...when it had the same radar dish Han would have AFTER Lando owned it. But of course Disney Star Wars ignores the prequels whenever possible, and if they didn't change the Falcon they couldn't try to sell you another toy. Also, while ILM isn't responsible for the interior production design of Lando's Falcon, going from super shiny white hospital walls to totally broken-in aged-universe look in the span of 10-15 years?? Nope, didn't buy it.

The expanded universe books and comics should ADD to the movies, but they shouldn't be required reading to understand them, in my view. And Lucas definitely meant for that to be the Falcon in ROTS (vs. the two Correlian freighters briefly seen parked on Naboo in AOTC), so it seems odd to me that a book or comic would undo something we see in a movie. But who know what that current Star Wars story group is up to these days!

Too bad crybabies had to take out their anger from the Sequel movies on this quality spinoff. Now we aren't getting more spinoffs which so far have been great but still getting a sequel movie which will likely be as bad as the last two.

The one in episode 3 is just an Easter egg and not canon. Just like the Tie Fighters and Lukes X-Wing in episode 2.

This movie should never have been made. Part of the mystique behind Han Solo is the fact we don’t know how he became the man we love. Showing his journey is a little like a magician explaining his magic. It should never have been made and this is partly reflected in its poor box office among other things. The Kennedy/Last Jedi fiasco didn’t help either.
