Over 40 years since I first saw Star Wars and this is the first time I've seen anybody describing the Falcon as a pusher tug boat in space. This makes SO MUCH SENSE to me. I've always wondered how it could be a freighter with such small cargo holds. Thank you.

Same, I can't believe I've never seen this. It makes so much more sense seeing how the weird shape of the ship's front grabs the cargo. It even explains why the cockpit is awkwardly stuck off to one side!

same here! I always wanted to know how it could be called a freighter and be so quick and agile. I was not aware of the escape pods in the lower rear of the hull either. The 3D model shows everything better than a physical model for clarity along with the detailed explanations. Makes a fictional item seem so real.

@@brianconlan4215 Yes, in essence that's what it is. Or really, a barge pusher in space. Like we have here in the United States for pushing the long containers up and down the Mississippi River.

The mandibles being designed to push cargo makes the YT make so much more sense. It's so overpowered because it's really a kind of tug, designed to push masses of cargo much larger than the ship itself.

This is great , I've always wanted a detailed guilded tour of the millennium falcon. I think it's small size is why it's so fast . One thing I've always loved about star wars is their ships , and this was an amazing ship capable of doing light speed for long trips as well as landing in the parking lot of a quicky mart. 👽✨

Star Wars for me as a kid was 50% games,movies,toys and 50% incredible cross sections. I loved seeing the artist rendering of what was inside all the ships and bases.

I can't believe I've been a Star Wars fan for this long and finally learned that the Millennium Falcon isn't exactly a cargo ship, it's more like a semi tractor. For years I've been looking at cutaway diagrams of this ship and wondered, "OK but where do they transport the cargo, the ship is almost entirely living space?"

The millennium falcon is heavily modified for speed though it doesn't have standard sublight or the original hyper drive engine. They're upgraded with a "massive" turbo as such on the sublight engine with some extra heat vent stuff and the hyper drive engine was replaced altogether for one fast than most imperial ships up to cruiser class.

Yeah. Usually small cargo ships are pretty much all cargo space with a bridge and a tiny cabin attached and that's it. The Falcon looks more like a personal cruise ship. One meant to give a sense of space and feel comfortable on long journeys.

What's remarkable about this video is that it's better than the tour of the Millennium Falcon that I saw on Disney+. That video had no commentary, no text to tell you what was what, and was so random in what it showed you couldn't get a clear sense of where things were in relation to each other. Your video is clear, concise, gives the viewer a definite sense of where things are in relation to each other, and is just plain fun. It just goes to show what a difference passion and attention to detail can make.

I'm currently writing a space-opera and this helped me a lot to create a much clearer mental image of my spaceship. Thank you so much!

That is where I absolutely draw the line before feminism killed the series. I've heard good things about The Mandalorian on Disney though and am gonna give it a go.

Freaking amazing how detailed Star Wars became. Like a whole detailed reality.

If possible, I'd like to see more of Star Wars ships. Luthen's ship, _Fondor,_ in particular.

Ah... But the Hayes Manual is extremely detailed, and he omitted or ignored the interesting bits, like the crew quarters, the head, the galley...

It seems very cozy, I mean imagine relaxing in the cockpit or the ”main hold area” with friends just cruising around, playing card/board games, food/drinks, music etc.

I never new. Just got home from Disney and the Star Wars theme is amazing. I’ve never been a fan as a kid but I’m about to watch as many films as possible.

I have to say, this is probably the best interior of the Falcon video on KZread. Please consider doing one on the Slave I (I refuse to call it a FireSpray).

I really wish Lego would give us a UCS model that accounts for all of this on the interior.

Been a SW fan ever since I was a kid and I find this great! I was gifted the LEGO Millenium Falcon 75257 and although not UCS, I'm thoroughly amazed just how good of a copy it is in terms of the details to most of the layout and design portrayed here - e.g. the scan-proof secret compartments (I wondered what these are on the model itself), the front access of the upper quad cannon (portrayed in the model as a simple cart in which you could connect characters but still cool and fairly accurate) etc. Great job!

All these years I never understood how this could be freighter, seeing how it wasn't a very big ship and the only cargo space they ever show in the films was under the floor boards. It also explains why the cockpit is off on one side.

@@slickstretch6391 I assume that it's meant primarily for either high-value items or short trips between neighboring systems rather than longer trips. For anything else, it's unlikely to be economical to operate.

Though if Star Wars was a little more realistic you would expect ships about the size of the Millenium Falcon or maybe slightly smaller to be extremely common. That they would be about the size for a family.

We see the pods used in TLJ, though not quite for the intended purpose. Han was always prepared for the worst. He would wait until the LAST possible moment, but if something went wrong and the ship was going to blow, I think he'd use it. He'd just never forgive himself for it.

He used them as a decoy in A New Hope. When the Death Star captured the ship one of the officers remarked that 'several of the escape pods have been jettisoned' Giving the illusion that Han and the crew had abandoned ship after leaving Tatooine.

Considering it's supposed to be a freighter in space, it would hardly be a problem. In fact, as shown at 1:20, it could actually be an advantage. The ship was never designed for dogfights or for navigating narrow corridors at high speed. The way Han uses the ship, having the cockpit centered would probably be better, but he was originally a smuggler, he wanted his ship to appear unremarkable and blend in, so he left the cockpit on the side. Then he probably got used to it.

I've spent the last several weeks going over details of the ship - please let me know if I missed anything! This is a fictitious ship so not everything makes complete sense. If life support fails then you can repair it efficiently, if the inertial dampers are tied in with the life support, then the life support fails automatically when the damper do. This is why we can all agree that Star Wars is science fantasy, not fiction, for proper sci-fi watch Star Trek. I love me some captain Picard!

He outfitted the ship with a plastic bottle ejector. It's much more efficient for a smuggler on the go to "refill" a Mountain Dew bottle and chuck them out into space. Having a bathroom took up valuable cargo space needed to move weapons and blow.

This layout is wrong, there is a toilet in the crew quarters which this is missing. Also missing is the medical bunk as well as a few other things

@@brentdrafts2290 Star Wars ships can cover the entire galaxy in about a few days at best, no doubt you could find *some* planet to stop by for a leak.

I flew a few years with the YT-1300 as Commander Pilot and must say this animation is pretty acurate. Landing the YT-1300 on rough terrain was tricky and was always done on manual control. Hyperdrive was the most fun and saved us a lot of time with flying. I mis the high quality seats which you’ll not find in the newest types.

Oh my! This is the video I was looking for. I never understood how was the interior so broad.

Thank you! That was very nice, very good. Felt like a tour of the ship.

I think the thing that makes the Falcon what it is, are the three droid brains wired together to act as the main computer. A slicer droid to handle the comms and hack codes, an R2 droid to handle navigation, and an assassin droid for tactical. They always fight and compete for resources which are always overtaxed from the extensive upgrades to the ship.

Obi Wan: Han Han Solo: What is it old man? Obi Wan: Where is the shitter? Han Solo: Its at the back but Chewie just went so Id give it a couple of hours.

I'm blown away how inefficient space is used in that ship. Corridors, open spaces, divided rooms that need a detour to access, to many entrances.

Personnaly, I was blown away how efficient and practical are the proximity of the main entry to the cockpit, the cockpit to the gun area, the cockpit to the living room, the main entry to the smuggling area compartments. And i did not know that this model was designed to be modular for the buyer, which explains even more why there are corridors on the center of the ship. And i am always blown away as all these was imagined in 1970 by GL and its crew :)

@@DarthRedbeard look I know it's intention wasn't to get a realistic model. They propably couldn't know it was going to be such a succes. First priority was for it to look cool and that's it. But still it's unefficient in it's layout. And yes, a pretty good job considering it was made in 1970 when all the fancy 3D tools wheren't present to help them modelling / making these conceptarts and such. So not a critique on that ;-)

Nice work. Trivia: Originally the cockpit could rotate, and the normal "space mode" was sideways like a sunfish, but going "saucer" mode for landings. They abandoned this idea as superfluous though as the Falcon twists and turns so much while manouvering in battle.

My favourite toy as a boy, never left it alone for a second...god, I miss it.

The falcon is a ship built to fly corridors around in the galaxy. ☺️

They showed seats in the movies for both gun turret positions.

The circuitry bay where Han and Leia had their first kiss in Empire, is missing. I was building a scale model a while back, so I know where a few things are situated. This is a great video. Thanks for making. It's influenced me to get back to building the model.

The millenium falcon was a custom space craft that was heavily modified by at at least two owners. It did not come off an assembly line.

This was great, I scrolled through all your videos hoping to see an old pirate ship or voyage ship from the 1600’s or 1700’s, I’ve always wanted to see an in-depth view of how it looks and how it works

I love the way you animated... mind-blowing

I think The Millennium Falcon is Only build to only just be a cargo ship

Beautiful model. One of the lesser known secrets of the Falcon is that the sets from the original trilogy don't really fit together in the "physical" hull. Too much set for the chassis. More than a few people have tried to square that circle over the years. This is a very nice addition to the club.

What I want to see on Disney Channel (NOT Disney +), is a documentary that's a walk-through of the MF in which the host (Harrison Ford?) points out the ship's technical features. Just CGI and drawings aren't enough! I want to see the hyperspace field generator, the cargo bays, the lifeboats (and their interiors), the crew accommodations, the interior of the smuggling compartments, details of the engineering board in the center of the ship, see the forward cargo mandibles/arms working, etc. Now THAT would be cool!!!

I imagine sometime in the future someone will actually build a working one of these.. Would be cool too see.
