A little detail I love is at 1:28 they've animated the recoil on the destroyer's guns. There was no need to do that level of detail at all but I'm glad they did
What would be cool is if they made static object ships among the 'real ships' so as not to slow the frame rate, but visually simulate the sheer scale of the invasion force
@granddukeofmecklenburg

Would be cool if they added added more than destroyers...You know, like Major Surface Vessels. Like the 7 Battleships at D-day, HMS Rodney, Nelson, Warspite, Ramillies... Uss Texas, Nevada, Arkansas... And the 5 Heavy Cruisers... And the 19 Light Cruisers.

I don't literally mean those ships, but more like... Make a New York class, a Queen Elizebeth and Nelson class model for BBs. Models for a Baltimore and Northampton. A Town class, Dido, and Leander for cruisers...

@@rohanthandi4903 Or realistic landscapes. This is just re-hashed Rise of Flight. Modders could do way better. Sick of crap scenery - what's the point when we have such great cockpits/planes but have to fly over a cartoon. Still, it's better than the kindergarten drawing that passes for desert on CloD Tobruk.
Been playing a lot of dcs and whilst the plane models and flight models are great, nothing beats IL2 as a proper battle simulator. The planes might not be quite as well modelled but you actually feel you are part of a war in IL2
The kill with the Thunderbolt is a prime example of how one kill becomes two claims. Lovely video, mate. Looking forward to picking this one up!
You haven't got the D Day strips painted on your plane.
I love the dainty little steps the infantry take. Just a casual hop and skip up the beach.
Awesome video Taff, I would love to see you do a series of this campaign.
If you fly low enough you either hear "The guns aren't here!" or "Patterson! Hey! Patterson!"
LOL, the landing craft looked a bit empty.
Nice video ! At 20:05, it's not a Mulberry harbor, it's Port-en-Bessin. Mulberries cames after D-Day when it was enought secure to mount it.
It’s awesome to see Dday from the air, great job Taff!
I quite like the new map. Hadn’t paid much attention to the beachheads themselves so thanks for showing that.
My Father in law worked on sections of the Mulberry Harbour at Butterley Engineering.
Great video once again 👌
No D-Day white striping on the wings ... very important detail ...

There is of course a paint scheme called "RAF Day D" and "USAAF Day D" with white stripes in the game, but it has to be set manually, which the author of the video probably forgot.
Taff I love your work. My fingers are crossed that you do a career in 193 Squadron 2TAF using the Hawker Typhoon. My late father served in 193 Sqn from June 1944 until VE Day. Here's hoping!
Great video. Reminds me of the CLOD multiplayer game play i wanted to see. If you play the Brits, you needed to defend the beaches from a German invasion during the BOB. IF the germans made the beach, you lost the game. Actually, I'd LOVE to see a Whimpy campaign ! Wellington for the go. :D
fantastic!
Hey Taff, great vid! The FPV footage looked a bit "slo-mo" though, like the physics were slowed down, while the third person shots that I think came from the recording looked fine. I had the same thing happen sometimes when I was still using my 4790k (OCd to 4.7GHz), but that was still back in BoBP days. Might be the CPU not being able to keep up with all the AI controlled units. Have not seen it happen since I changed my CPU to a 5800X, I did however not play this mission yet, so you might also be right with the map not being optimized yet.
Cool
Please make a series out of this

Very good video with plenty of action, you managed that Spitfire nicely 👍 you definitely didn't waste alot of ammo, and maintained your mission. I did detect any computer lag, in fact I would appreciate if you don't mind sharing your computer specs? I'm in the market now. Thanks
16:25 I wonder who got the kill in the end. There's something strangely wholesome to see a british and an american pilot teaming up to shoot down a german one. ^^

Not always the case. In the case of Pierre Closterman's account there was a great number of blue on blue engagements in the latter stages of the war where 'trigger happy' American fighters mistakenly attacked Hawker Typhoons as they looked like FW 190's. The situation got so bad that RAF Command sent damning letter to USAF Command to get their pilots to cease, -look first, shoot later. As far as I am aware, friendly fire continued.
That was Port en Bessin not Arromanches where the Mulberry Harbour was placed!

Where do you find that mission ? I have the bought Normandy campaign and have only played in multiplayer
On D-Day on Destroyer beached itself on Omaha and provide close gun support taking out some pill boxes and machine gun nests,
Entertaining despite the obvious flaws.
They don't actually need to get back across the channel, only to the transport ships, but they are not present here.
Doesn't quite convey the greatest armada ever assembled
Looks like Fortis Flight has returned four years after Dunkirk but with Mark IX Spitfires replacing their Mark Is they had in 1940.
Channelling your inner Tom Hardy.
Landing craft hull number 420. DD hull number 420. (USS Buck, sunk in 1943) Large landing craft hull number 420. Coincidence? No way.

Apparently we stormed the beaches in empty landing craft. lol Otherwise looks great !!
Would it hurt to use the right paint jobs on the planes ? Any plane flying over the allied ships without the invasion stripes on would have been shot at by the entire armada, end of mission...
S is for Spitfire.
Would love to play a co-op mission or even a dogfight mission on our dedicated server with my friends but have so far not seen any missions on the IL2 forum that use the Normandy DLC map. If anyone knows of any such missions, please do share.
Shame there aren't that many ships! The scale of the invasion is too small right?
Could try slowing down when tailing somebody
Where are your invasion "zebra" stripes? Good way to get yourself offed by friendlies!
a captured Luftwaffe pilot after D Day was asked by his captors, " Where was the Luftwaffe during D Day?" He replied, " When you look up and see a brown and green plane, you know it is British RAF. When you look up and see a silver plane, you know it is American. When you look up and see no plane, you know it is German Luftwaffe."

That can't be June 6th. I don't see invasion stripes. I call shenanigans on this one. And seriously, for this to be a D-Day scenario, there should be thousands of ships, stretching as far as the eye can see. It might help the invasion if there were actually SOLDIERS in the landing craft, as well. I can see 1C spared EVERY expense to provide absolutely the cheapest, non-immersive environment possible. Since the first amphibious landings were early in the morning, before dawn, the entire beach would be full by the time of this mission. It was great when the Spit was firing at the 190, then the Jug came along, said, ""Hold my beer," and the 190 foled up like a piece of paper.

Yeah, doesn't look or feel like D-Day at all.
Shouldn't the Allied planes have the black and white D Day stripes?
Is the majority of this in slow motion? Seems very sedate for a dogfight

Have a fly on the Combat Box multiplayer server and have a look. You don't need to buy the map to use it if servers are using it. You would need to buy for single player, however
Seems like a target-rich environment for german pilots.
Dont understand why they engine can't support more ground units, its the Dday
Ha ha ha ha... should be 10 times as many landing craft. In the real world many of the planes doing CAP over the Normandy beaches during the landing were Tempest V commanded by Roland Beaumont and Yes the invasion stripes are missing. Compare this to D-Day, 1944: Invasion of Europe for the humble CFS3 from 18 years ago.
Ai needs more improvement. I don't know why you would be continuing the fight with coolant and oil streaming out of your plane. They should just head for home or safer ground.

Not that it matters but I find it funny how all the numbers on the boats or landing craft have the same number. 420

no way Normandy looks like that now. Farm fields, hedgerows. - Probably all roads, parking lots, beach front apt buildings up to the high tide mark. -What they call progre$$...
Empty landing craft is such a let down. I feel sure they could have made an object with static troops sitting in it. Also tanks on a landing boat. really breaks immersion for videos like this.
i was going to buy this because i thought dday would be awesome, very underwhelming for 60$
OMG I hate when you wait until you are up the bum before you fire! , you had the 190 at the right convergence distance !

Taff you badly need to work on your aircraft recognition! You flew right past an FW190 without even recognising it as the enemy, and kept calling FW190s "110s"! The Me 110 is a twin in-line engined heavy fighter with a twin tail - the FW 190 is a stubby winged single radial engined fighter. They are about as different and instantly recogniseable as a teapot and a plate. A bit more concentration that man! See the CO in his office when you land.
@timonsolus
Жыл бұрын
Understandable in an historical context. In early 1944, all the German fighters in the West were busy defending Germany from the US 8th Air Force B-17s and B-24s. The Spitfire pilots didn't have the range to get into that fight, and they flew sortie after sortie over the French coastal regions without ever seeing a German fighter, as the Luftwaffe had basically given up on defending the French coast until D-Day. So the Spitfire pilots were very rusty on dogfighting.
@vipertwenty249
Жыл бұрын
@@timonsolus The RAF made a big deal about aircraft recognition. Stepfather was only a navigator (Wellington bombers) but he like all aircrew were not merely expected - but required - to be good at aircraft recognition. By that point in the war, the RAF fighter squadrons were well experienced, having been engaged on offensive fighter sweeps and raid escort over northern France since June 1941, and having been in combat since September 1939. A fighter pilot showing such poor aircraft recognition as Taff did in the video would have been taken off operations and subjected to intensive retraining until the standard was either met or the pilot sent to be an instructor or fly a desk. Even groundcrew were trained in aircraft recognition, as Ken Mayes, an ex armourer in 19 squadron from 1938 onwards told me some years ago.
