HAHAHAHA. Yeah, I don't mess around. Although, if you looked closely you'd see the areas where there were drips of super glue. For some reason the 1/4" MDF didn't absorb it as quickly as thicker MDF does.

such an awesome transformation. I have one of those shelves in my living room for the past 3 years. Never did I envision this. Props to you Sir. And I must say, that is the best make up reel for lost footage ever. Mrs VanOaks was funny and informative. And as a person who does not have a lot of the maker tools for hobbies...I was happy to hear options ot outsource. I may have to look around my community to see for the same....instead of a $5k purchase of a laser cutter here or a resin printer there.
@VanOaksProps

Definitely. While I'd love to have a laser cutter, I don't really have the space for it. To have been able to find a local shop to do it was a huge time saver and was more affordable than you'd think.

I see a few people talking about hot spots in here. The first thing that will even out the lighting is to paint the interior white. The more white the more it can bounce the light around and the more even it will become. A dusting of silver will also help.
@VanOaksProps
3 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. I got excited and ahead of myself during the build and had every intention of lining the inside of the shelf with foil tape. There was a text overlay that talked about it. It would definitely made for more even light disbursement.

Thanks! The thought crossed my mind but the Death Star is clean, so no weathering required.
CA glue with acrylic?! I've never had any luck with cyanoacrylate (or any other adhesive) to bond acrylic. Sometimes CA glue works initially, but it always fails a few minutes or hours later. In the end I've always ended up fashioning a way to clip or clamp the acrylic piece into place. Anyway, cool build. Thanks for sharing.

super stoked on this one. Also quite timely as a friend just gave me one of these shelves for records. Do you think you’ll be inclined to hand paint any of the “control panel” accents in time? and lastly, what’s the van oaks theme song called? i have an association to it now that gets me excited for prop building and the halloween season. would love for a ring tone or something. haha
@VanOaksProps

I might, just to give it more variation. The theme is some stock music from audio jungle. I don’t recall the name but if you search for halloween it’ll come up.

Waiit.. no haunted mansion?? Ha. Joking Hey man, so, since you're not trying to hide iit. I've been wanting to tell you you shouldn't bother to hide it.. You know. A good family friend of ours has only a thumb and finger and he has always been so good at hiding. My cousin who is around 35 now. Didn't even realize he had a hand that way till she was like 30.. we've all known him our whole lives. But, man, he played high school hockey on one of the best teams at the tiime.. all sorts of things. And we used to work with him on a regular basis building houses and buildings and things. Buut anyway, it never ceases to amaze me all the things he does. He's over 75 I think now so we're all slowing down, but he could out work me on any day. Probably still. Be proud . Handi capable eh. Cheesy. Sorry. I mean no offense. Keep it uup brother man
