Ikat Time Lapse - Large 540p Video Sharing.mov
I practice one of the oldest and most widespread forms of textile decoration. Ikat. It is a process in which you bind and dye the warp or weft fibers to create an image.
The bindings are removed, the fibers are washed out and dried before the weaving process begins. I recorded every second of the process (about three months) and put it into this four minute video. ENJOY:)

Huge respect to you for your interest and hard efforts you have put into weaving an Indian fabric. Keep shining
That was remarkable. Thank you for taking the time to put that wonderful video together.
spectacular!! i work in a museum where we have a carpet in our collection made this way, and i have often speculated how -- reading about the process doesn't even come close to actually seeing someone do it! thank you for posting :)
Very impressive and what a gorgeous result! Love the music too!
Beautiful work. I had no idea Ikat was made, you've taught me well and it is mind blowing! Excellent!
Can I LOVE this video?! So gorgeous and inspiring! I'm experimenting with Ikat on a small scale for a uni class and this is just so helpful and exciting. Thank you!

In Indonesia the women produce fantastic ikat textiles that can take up to 3 or 4 years to produce one piece with natural dyes and hand spun thread.

Your work is really great . .... But the patola which is a great indian sari is famous all world for its making method and it is very expensive. That is oldest method for making it . And the patan district is World famous for it ..
good job
So great - what type and colour yarn did you use for the weft to allow the warp design to dominate, Whitney? I'm planning a painted warp and this question is vexing me. Thanks for any advice!
amazing
Omg... Our ikkat very unique
fantastic work! What are you mixing your colours with? :)
New idea for coloring

Wow this is amazing! What dyes do you use? and where are you from? Im a textile designer from Australia :)
wow wow wow wow wow
So great!! Thanks for sharing! What school do you attend?
Combination of Ikat and Songket is called as Limar. Silk Limar is the most expensive textile in South East Asia because of the time consuming to produce it.
Dang, that’s a lot of work
Thanks for taking the time to document this. Japanese ikat, which I the work that I have mostly encountered, is rectilinear and monochrome. However, there is a show, now, at Los Angeles County Museum of Art, showing Central Asian Ikat which is highly curvilinear and vibrantly polychrome. The method you use, of painting on the dyes again the tied stops, is probably the way that those 19th century weavers worked. That show is up until August 2019 here in Los Angeles. www.lacma.org/art/exhibition/power-pattern-central-asian-ikats-david-and-elizabeth-reisbord-collection
How many hours of total work it took you to make it from the beginning till the end?
amazing, elinize sağlık
This tie dye technique Ikat is originated from Indonesia & India.
Thank you Whitney for sharing an amazing video- wow, you are soooo talented! just wondered how to prepare my warp- I use local fibres (Welsh and Rare breeds wool) and dyes sourced from our breathtakingly beautiful Wales... my own handspun yarn dyed with natural dyes (lichens, gorse, black rosehip, woad etc.)...i would love to make an ikat but am not quite sure how to go about the dyeing process- each dyestuff reacts with a different mordant (woad is especially tricky)! any suggestions?

унас этот метод текстьиля называют адрас из хб ниток и смесь с шелком. Атлас из чистого шелка. и газ .и ькут в основном мужчины. это очень трудоёмкая работа.
Wow, Whitney! This is really beautiful and inspiting. Thanks for sharing! What did you use to tie your warp place keepers? How long did you let the dye set?
@whitneymatalone9458

Jessica Facette Thank you! I used recycled polyurethane fiber to bind my warp. Anything synthetic that will not absorb your dye will work. I let my dye set for 24 hours after the last color was applied. Hope that is helpful!
This is the textile artistic work in sarees of India..I am glad you showed a part of our culture
could you add subtitles to let us know what you are doing? what fibre did you use? what type of dye?
Wow! And I thought I was fast (grin)
The result is not as vivid as the colours you used while dyeing, is it a normal process, or the dye just didn't work properly? (Sorry, I don't mean to criticize you, I work with textile dyes myself and I know it's sometimes tricky. I was just wondering).
wow
Tenun ikat 👍👍👍👍 salam from indonesia

MrPisster You're too kind :) If your asking about how I keep the threads in order..You must know that weaving is very mathematical. It requires a lot of precise measuring and counting along with organization, focus and finesse.
