    Funny fact: The stock ND2 miata is faster 0-60 than a stock S2000 while also "feeling" faster due to less weight and lower center of gravity. So if anyone says the ND2 is slow, its just "herd mentality" at this point and its cool to say miata's are slow. Bonus fact: you cant say that the higher redline makes a grand difference when, back then, it was believed that higher RPM was necessary to stretch your gearing out further and to maximise power, and in turn, speed... but now a greater understanding in peak engine efficiency, power-to-weight ratios and proper gearing allows cars with lower max RPMs to accelerate faster by stretching your power along a wider rpm range allowing for more power across a wider range of RPMs(such as EXACTLY where your RPMs are going to be between each shift) rather than only ever getting into your peak power for a short time between shifts. Which is what the S2k suffered from in the AP1 and was somewhat fixed in the AP2. But 9k rpms in the now-inferior AP1 does have coolness factor that even I myself still want 😂 But I'd still take the ND2 without a second thought. Lighter, stiffer chassis, faster, kinmatic posture control, more road feedback, and a greater torque-to-weight ratio, cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, cheap and abundant mods. Its a landslide win for the ND2.

    8 ай бұрын

    @@tanakax25 Go ahead and skip the big brakes. They look cool, but every Miata since the NC has had big enough brakes to work well even with a V8 swap. Small is light. Just get appropriate pads and fluid the the type of driving you plan to do. Suspension is good, though. Spend as much as you can afford on the dampers. Cheap coilovers can get you pretty good performance on the track, but kill you on the street. Getting the balance of ride and handling is where the money is. But a Miata on good suspension is completely untouchable and worth every cent.

I live in a patch town, so the roads are so-so, and my NB has VERY stiff suspension, but I still don't find it uncomfortable. Only bad thing about these cars is if you are over 6 foot, you probably aren't driving one on a track with a helmet on because you'll be too tall (depending on torso length). This is why for a track build, probably a modded BRZ is a better platform - stiffer, its got a roof, taller, you can add bhp but physically making a car larger is hard to do. There's things you can do to make yourself fit... but yeah, a bigger car is a bigger car. For road use? Mx-5 is always the answer. And top down motoring is more fun.

    The current generation Miata is pretty fast. Fast enough to blow the doors off a Jaguar XK-E. Having owned both, I know this. Another thing I know about the current-gen Miata: It will do an honest 135 mph.

    They should take their 2.5 and tuned it for N/A power. Still loads more torque and power (could easily make ~230HP) with almost no weight penalty.

    New engine prolly handle a nice amount of boost!

  • @JETZcorp

    @JETZcorp

    8 ай бұрын

    It's okay. The best engine for boost is the one from the late NB Miatas. That had the iron block and over-built internals of the old engine, in it's biggest strongest form, with the best heads. The later NC and ND engines will easily produce big horsepower, but the stock bottom-ends aren't as strong. The NC engine is starting to get a good aftermarket for building one up, but it's still pretty early days for these Skyactiv engines in the ND. Plus the ridiculously high compression is a limitation on the Skyactiv.

  • @hojnikb

    @hojnikb

    Ай бұрын

    no it doesn't. It's high compression, along with limited fuel delivery, means you'd need to build a motor and fuel delivery even before you hit 300HP. And by that point, tranny will blow itself to pieces because its made of glass. Just get a more tunable car as a base, if you want that.
