Well actually not to say it for everyone but I bought a brand new xbox one s console from best buy, had it delivered, it worked for almost 2 weeks. Then it just wouldn't turn on at all??? I took it to a repair shop an they guy charged me $170 to replace the HD and the power supply as he said it not only had liquid damage but looked as if it was dropped??? The console sat on my entertainment centre the whole time since I unboxed it an turned it on an nothing but my grubby fat fingers ever touched the console before it had an issue an was brought to the repair shop.... so uhhh how was it dropped or had liquid damage? It was new when purchased o.o an yeah I get that delivery is not 100% safe an taken care of all the way. But where did the liquid damage come from? 🤔

As the warranty from best buy said they wouldn't cover water damage, so it was refused service. an the funny part that not many are explaining is that if you plug the xbox one s console into a power strip it will feedback an destroy the inside power supply of the console. Did you know about this??? Bc I had never heard of anything like this before.... so as long as you plug it into the wall outlet itself you will be fine, but if in a power strip it will keep your xbox from turning on.

To anyone wondering what is going on: ODD stands for OPTICAL DISC DRIVE. So no, you don't brick the console if the HDD dies. Also no, it is not possible to change the ODD serial number to match what the console is looking for.

@@Portuguese-linguica not going to happen for the same reason where you cannot update a DVD burner firmware using files from - say Lenovo - but your DVD burner came with an HP laptop and HP never bothered to release the same firmware update. The whole process involves encryption, so it's not happening even if you plug onto the chip directly.

My OG Xbox one, (yes I am still working with it) had a similar problem, except it somehow killed my wireless card during the update. Swapped with a new one and it's still kicking. First purchase out of my parents house, I'll use it until it dies.

@n I replaced the hard hard drive with an SSD a few years back. Its also got an external 16TB (4*4TB) storage array for the best loading times it can manage. Other than the wireless card I've had no issues with mine. But I do treat it like an all-digital edition, not risking the disk drive doing it in.

The disk drive that is now on the console its from another xbox model? A new xbox one drive would resolve the issue? Or how are you supposed to do if your original drive fails and want to put anew one.

Good attempt, defeated by an owner who fitted an alternative optical disc (shortly after they dropped it perhaps). Re your house, would an extension be better than a shed? Obviously more expensive but sturdier, better insulated, connected etc and you have plenty of land.

Now if this were an Xbox 360, you can swap disc drives easy, just RGH it, retrieve the DVD key and flash it into another drive of your choice.

Somehow there MUST BE a way to read and write the serial. Somehow it WAS put in there by someone :)

Damn that's such a shame! I mean yeah it's been dropped but thats definitely not the issue, it's the Frankensteining together of parts and screwing up on so many levels that killed it for sure! At least the HDD is still usable :')

Chances are, it will have been on the Xbox insider program. My One x wouldn't let me upgrade to a SSD drive as it was part of the program but the original drive would install and update fine. Even cloning didn't work. Never found a workaround 🤔

If the log file is showing theserial numbers its looking for is there no way to download the update as a standalone usb install and modify the exact file that carries the check out to either ignore the missmatch or accept the new drive and then re-package the update. Its possible with most other software like androids error7 errors or windows compatible errors etc

The check is done by the system not the update file. The only way to bypass stuff like that is with a proper jailbreak and custom firmware. And even then it is not a guarantee that you can bypass system selfchecks like these. And if it is possible you normally need it in a working jailbreaked state before swapping the disk drive for example.

What's the problem you have, fix the disk. Disks have bad sectors, you can repair them, then clone the disk and enjoy the console. HDD has a short lifespan, if someone turns off the power suddenly while saving the game, then bad sectors occur. Fixing two write paths is simple.

More than likely the old one failed at somepoint so the owner has decided to fit a new one himself not realising that diskdrives have be the correct one they came, they are like married in a way, is one way to put it. I had a similar problem with an old playstation, and i found out that the little daughterboard or whatever way its spelt that it comes from factory with is the only one it will work with,so a very similar situation to this one really. They are encrypted or paired and a replacment wont work for the same reasons as in this video...

Had this issue with an old Xbox One when I was changing from HDD to SSD, I had to wait until a new update came out for it to be usable again not sure if that's the same E100 error as this one though that's to say if there are different E100 errors.

Disk drive as where you put the games in lol not hard drive.

I'm astonished about how many people drop their consoles. I don't even like disconnecting the cables cause I'm worried about damage the ports somehow or having residual power left over when unplugging power supply. And I always use a quality surge protector with battery backup to prevent power outage damage.

I'm not 100% sure if it's what you're looking for but i'm sure it's possible to change a drives serial number using a Windows system/PC. I know AOMEI partition assistant pro used to have the option so it might be worth giving that a shot.

It's not. It's something that is encrypted. Otherwise piracy would be rampant. Until it gets jailbroken, there is nothing you can do.

Am I missing something here? Since when are Xbox One drives paired to the system? I was able to upgrade my Xbox One X hard drive to a 2 TB one without copying anything from the original disk. I used the OSU1 from Microsoft. I was also able to use a drive from an original Xbox One in the X as part of my troubleshooting. I was getting random "something went wrong" messages while playing. Turned out to be the SATA cable causing the issue. Is this just a thing one One S models?

@@Notpoop906 the software just revealed the old key and the current one so technically something sitting there is decrypting the hex/original key. Surely some code that tells the software to switch the two around and write back to the chip. I'm sure I'm missing a massive chunk of knowledge here 😁 let me know....

A solid idea

I decided to watch this video because I am 50% at getting the bottom cover off of an Xbox one S without ripping off the sync button. My question is this. If you rip the button off and you still have it, what is the best way to reattach? With it being all plastic, I’m kind of at a loss.

Probably on a rom or you would need an editor to change the code, something not released for the public. If returned, microsoft would be able to change, but they keep those tools away from people.

Cody does understand but he understands differently, currently he may not understand that it's a permanent thing. The change may be hard on him and I only say that as I'm Autistic as well and change is never easy. If you are able to take the change slowly with him so he can get adjusted into the new place, it should make things easier on him and yourself

it has been my experience that you can change the serial number of a drive to match the one that existed before, even easier if the console remembers the old one. there are utilities that do this in Network Plotters and many other devices that use hard drives.

If he has the drive, and it's faulty you might be able to remove the ID chip from it, and put it on the new drive. As long as it's the same make, and model it should work in theory. I've never tried it so I don't know for certain. I have a bunk 120 Gb WD HDD that requires an entirely new PCB, and the repair guides I saw all said I'd need to put the ID chip from the old one onto the replacement board for it to be recognized by Windows. If that's the case, it still might be salvageable with that fix.

I would agree normally but youtube as far as I know does handle search based on multiple factors, and one of those are based on what people are talking about in comments, so people would still find the video :) the problem with youtube these days is everything is considered a competition, do we have to come up with eye catching titles to keep the views rolling in. This video is a perfect example of that as it's ranked 2 out of my last 10 in terms of views over a specific time frame. Sadly it's just part of life as a creator these days

These companies make such a big deal about their green credentials on the one hand and then go and and soft lock everything on the other. Unfortunately people don’t realise you cannot just change this kind of disc drive. In the factory they marry the board and disc drive together. If it breaks down all you can do is buy another console or do without it and just use all digital games.

not if it's a mechanical fault. you can just swap the board from the broken drive to the replacement. but if it's fried then yeah you can't reflash a new drive because they are paired to the console using hidden keys (not actually related to serial number). The only way to get the keys is to dump the flash of the console to retrieve the keys which isn't possible.

@@JamesStocks swapping hard drives usually are, the pairing issue he's having is for the optical drive. in that case the drive's board has to stay with the console. most times you can buy the optical drive on ebay but you have to swap the logic board to it. otherwise it would never work. There are tons of guides out there for swapping the internal hard drives on these at least. I was able to put a 2tb in my one x, and after doing the osu1 update from a usb stick, it was ready to go, the only caveat was that I had no boot animations until the next update, but it did work.

"Customer's lie". I want to know who instilled in people that not giving the whole story, or lying about what happened, will somehow make the repair "cheaper". It happens all the time in the auto industry also. People neglect to tell you details that would actually make the diagnosis or repair cheaper. "The car just quit running." Well, if you told me you drove it through a pond, hydro-locked the engine, and bent every push rod....I could save you some money up front rather than tearing it apart to tell you the same thing!

Don't buy a PlayStation, unless you like wasting money. Sony will brick the console with a dodgy update and won't give a sh$t. You have been warned. Microsoft will f around with your console as well. So stick to PC's.
