Its amazing how you can make these songs sound so full with only one instrument
This "one take" style works really well for you, would love to see more like this
4 cuts? I find it insanely fascinating that this style of video - no headphones, nearly totally acoustic, and no editing cuts - really shows of your skills the best. And that is on top of the musicality! WOW!!!
It might just be the fact that I'm a massive fan of Stevie Wonder, but this is one of my favorite pieces you've ever done. Not too over the top, just a genuinely nice rendition of a legendary track. Love the acoustic as well!
I bet Stevie didn't see it
4 strings making all that noise is just so darn cool to me, especially on the acoustic here. Another monster performance as usual, super inspiring man!

That acoustic gave the song more twang than it needed but I'm not complaining, it sounded good
Really impressed how you nailed so much of the original straight, rather than just improvising a load of complex variations, which I suspect would have been easier, even if it sounded flashier. A vintage "hardest song in the world" this time!
How do you make an acoustic bass sound this good?!? I don't know what to say anymore 🤣🤣🤣

@@RenanRischiotto if it was mic'd up it would sound a lot worse than this. The bass probably has a pickup and it's being plugged into the DI of an interface. That's why you get no room noise. That said, it still doesn't answer the basic question. I think the OP's question was more about technique than it was about how he recorded it.
I appreciate that a guy at your skill level still has to rely on bass face to get through. One of my all time favorite riffs; I think I prefer the simplicity of the original, but I appreciate what you were doing with it here. Also nice to see somebody flexing with an acoustic; they don't quite deserve the bad rap they get imo.
This might just be your best hardest song in the world yet. You were phenomenal!
Unbridled talent and a most humble attitude. A true professional, Charles.
I am always impressed by your endless ideas. The multitude of completely different melodies and licks is something for which I have no words. And you play so effortlessly. It is rare to see both hands so relaxed while playing. Truly amazing.
One of the most impressive things I've seen in a while. Please include a version of this when you next release an album!
Yes! I knew I could count on you to break down the original to all its sub parts. 8 clav parts make up the original. But, of course you knew that. Anyway, love how you went there and then took it to the next level. Really fricking groovy! Well done sir!
I watched it. Then I immediately watched it again. Incredible work, absolutely loved it!
That was lovely, Charles! Thank you for covering one of my all-time favourites so wonderfully!
Charles, I’m in my sixties. You are truly one of the most accomplished musicians I’ve ever heard. You have mastered your craft and your instrument.
Sweet arrangement of a killer funky song by Stevie!! I always loved the change up going into "...when you believe in things that you don't understand...." Very cool! Keep rockin'
Got to say - I absolutely love this tune, this arrangement and this performance. Another to put on my personal playlist and run on repeat when I'm having to do some serious work.
Jeff Beck is smiling! Just a wonderful rendition of one of my favorite songs of all time. Stevie Wonder and Jeff Beck, what more could you ask for. Thanks, made my day.

Holy CRAP! I've been patiently waiting for this. Charlie Boy, you knocked this one out of the park! I think you chose the perfect axe, the acoustic gives you tremendous freedom of expression. That Fender is a smashing success, and that is a perfect showcase piece for the instrument. Just wish you had someone to cover the vocals. Keep it up, you amaze us every time. ❤❤❤

Really nice, sympathetic composition, with that Charles sparkle. Amazing work sir.
This is so beautifully stripped back and just focused on your talented playing, creativity, and the music. Wonderful cover of a fantastic song!
Hello from North Carolina. I've been playing the guitar since I was 8 years old and I'm now going on 55 years now and I've worked with and played with a LOT of good bass players in my life but you make them all look like beginners, and I'm talking about international bands which I've worked with, but again, you make them all look like beginners my friend!! I'd give anything to be able to play some good music with you. You should be in the Guinness book of world records! I'm as serious as a heart attack too!! I bet that if you entered a bass players contest all the rest of those who entered would pack up their gear and leave after hearing you play because they would know that they wouldn't even stand a chance at winning against you! Keep up the fantastic playing my friend!

Wicked. I'm addicted. Charles plays smooth, the notes are liquid, Slapping or picking it, bass is his forte, Berthoud on the bass is to my kind of taste, I'll make time for his videos, always.

I think this video title should be classified as clickbait as for Charles NO song is the hardest song in the world. The dude's just incredible.
Again Top Level. I believe even Steve Wonder will appreciate your arrangement on this masterpiece. Great 👍🏻
You just made my day! Again 😊
Love the acoustic tone. Such a badass song to begin with and this is a stellar rendition. Thanks for sharing!
Dude that was so insane! Yeah that was freaking awesome Charles!
That was Amazing Charles! You fill the entire space in your own style yet respectful of Stevie's groove from so long ago. I really wish you could get with Tommy Emmanuel and work a duet somehow. Though you are both used to presenting the song fully by yourselves, i'm sure it would be a wonderful experience for each of you and all of us, your fans, to see what you two could come up with together. Love to see these new bassists out there like yourself that are reimagining the instrument. You are bringing a new dimension to the bass. Although it may not be compatible in a real time band setting as you are covering all the parts in the song yourself, it does demonstrate how the bass is an interesting solo instrument. Cheers!
Was not expecting the acoustic bass guitar on this one
Can we all agree we need more acustic bass 🔥🔥🔥
Good job, Charles. Stevie Wonder will be so proud of you for that cover you did🙂
Alot of people play the riff on the bass but i find it sounds much better just honking on that open E(b) string! Fantastic stuff as always.

Absolutely blown away and in love with this masterpiece!
I like the new format. Honestly, the standard "from relatively easy to impossible" showcases your skills, but this one right here has such a cool vibe that the well-edited videos lack somehow.
Very nice video! Love the acoustic bass!
Great and I loved that you played it on an acoustic bass! Thanks Charles
That cam change on the processor is great, it feels more live than edited video
Your videos are so much fun! They always pick me up and give my mood a boost!
This was the most amazing change of pace, perfectly suited the song and truly showcased your amazing talent!!
I was wondering when you would do this one. Fantastic!!
Amazing as always! Glad this one made it!
I saw the acoustic bass in the thumbnail and I knew this was going to be incredible! I guess I know that with any of your videos but something about the way you play that acoustic bass hits me on another level, it's just so good! I had to go back and rewatch your other acoustic videos since they are some of my all time favorites of yours!
I’m never disappointed when I watch one of your videos. Always stellar playing, and I love your arrangements. I’ve been playing music for over 40 years. I’d love to see a video where you talk about picking a song, then working out the arrangement, and then your method of rehearsing it.
Quit amazing! Putting all the different parts together, as a solo. Bravo!!!
So amazing Charles !!!
Brilliant work man. I absolutely love it.
This is the kind of bass I had, and it is my low-key favorite. Great Jam.
the tone of the bass is so good
Sooo it's nice to see you are still going with the (almost) uncut style, which I prefer best. I would prefer to see the pedal changes in a corner, instead of the inserts, anyways.
Thank you so much! I had no idea Fender acoustic basses could sound so funky!
It's completely ridiculous how clean that sounds.
Cheers mate, this was positively fantastic!
I was there man. Great rendition!
Nice Playing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) I love how you slap the bass and I know how hard accoustic bass-playing is, so I have even more respect for you
Wow… you were always on another level but I feel like your latest videos have gone up another notch
Awesome! This is my favourite version of this song.
What a beautiful instrument!
Amazing rendition Charles!!
One of my favourite bass riffs ever and you absolutely nailed it!
Wha...? How? HOW. How even- I feel inadequate now. XD It's one thing to bust out the legendary Berthoud chops, with the blistering Wootenesque double-thump and tapping craziness, which I love dearly. But the second verse, where you're holding down the bassline, clavichord line AND vocal melody? And making them all distinct and easily recognizable, while still physically possible to play? That's a whole different kind of compositional and performative skill, and I'm in actual awe.
Super impressive and satisfying to listen to, really enjoyed this one! I thought it was pretty cool how you could play the bassline (or clavline i guess lol) and the melody together in a super fluid way. I know you do that a lot but for some reason I really noticed it this time. Keep it up!
So clean bro damn. Nice amazing composition.
So clean! I love the shift!
This about brought me to tears, thank you Charles.
absolutely love your stuff man, amazing vibes, rhythm, talent etc - a joy to listen to
