If Carlsberg Made SUVs... - Li Auto L8

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Li Auto has only made four cars in its short history and they've all been rather excellent. The L8 is their third model and sits between the near-identical L7 and L9. As a six-seater, extended range electric vehicle (EREV), and an SUV, its appeal to family-focused Chinese consumers can barely be understated, offering the range of a combustion engined car with the convenience and comfort of an electric car, with the obvious benefits of being eligible for a green number plate in most Chinese cities. But the talents of the Li L8 go far beyond a beautifully refined drivetrain, for it's also an incredible family vehicle offering comfort, tech, and entertainment for everyone.
We put one through our most comprehensive test yet, driving over 3,000km from Shanghai to Xi'an and back, to find out why it's so popular.

    I really enjoyed your video, I'm and American that has lived in China for 16+ years and purchased my first Chinese brand car, the Li Auto L7 Max about 4 months ago. Words can't express how much I absolutely love this car. The tech is amazing, the ride is so smooth with the air suspension and I can't even begin to describe how comfortable it is to drive. I basically use the all electric driving mode since most of the time I'm driving in the city but for the few times I made long trips it's nice to have the 1,000km range when driving in Hybrid mode. Similar to your L8 I went with the 21" wheels and I think it gives the car a nicer look. I completely agree with the title of your video .... This car would Smash the US Sales Chart !!!!!

    This model as a shooting brake would be pretty much perfect. Nice quality, well packed technology wise, several physical buttons, way more convenient than most EV or most hybrids, full of features, etc. Feels like a +100k car after all the options. If it came to Europe for 70k euros after taxes it would destroy the competition.

    @mateuszzareba3889 Well the good news is that Li are going to fully electric from the end of this year when their new car comes out. For now, there's a transition phase to be managed whereby people need steadily convincing that EVs can work for them, long or short distances. Li are handling this very well at the moment because their sales are going gangbusters in China.

    We bought the L8 Pro. The AD driving is much better then the review tbh. You can fiddle with the settings to make it stop closer to the vehicle in front and it's much more responsive and "natural". The overtake is the only annoying part of the AD. Great review overall. Glad you're enjoying your L8, it is a great car. I just found that on many occasions it waited until right behind the car in front then thought about it a bit then eventually overtook. If you like maintaining momentum as I do it's just a bit annoying, but most ADAS systems are reactive rather than proactive which is their biggest failing. Which came first, the L8 (or perhaps L9 is an even better example) or the Xpeng G9? The exterior looks fairly similar to me, and so does the 2 screen interior. I find that many of the Chinese EVs share many design elements, although there are lots of exceptions of course (like Hongqi and HiPhi).

  • @InsideChinaAuto

    @InsideChinaAuto

    Жыл бұрын

    Sure. I believe the L9 came first (and the same design goes for L8 and L7) though G9 was very shortly after so no chance to copy, it's just that Chinese consumers demand many screens and there's no point putting a 15-inch screen behind the steering wheel so they put one where it would go normally and another for the passenger.

    Good timing indeed. You don't ever have to plug it in. You can if you want to never use fuel but if you don't have charging at home, no problem. The engine charges the battery, that's all it does, essentially giving you the EV driving experience with the longer range of fuel.

Then go read some articles from the journalists who came over for the Shanghai Auto Show last month and see how surprised they were. I can only help give you a soft landing for when these cars arrive.

    It's made pretty clear in the video this is an extended range electric vehicle, which means it has an electric drivetrain supported by an onboard engine for extended range. The car can be operated purely electrically without any fuel if desired, so while it may not be the most efficient setup, it can technically be an EV.

    hybrid is not an EV? why do they receive the same amount of tax credits/benefits then? like it or not it s still considered an EV even if it is not a fully EV.
