Why can't I get through this song without crying? I never could! I'm a 60 yo long-haired hippy woman who STILL raises chickens and takes free eggs to the reservation in AZ. I've lived such a happy, simple life.....and just listen to our music! ...and *they* call US nutz! 😊 Blessings to all of the old American hippies out there who kept the faith! Peace! ✌😎👍 🇺🇸 🎸☮🕊

+Scott Shearer David Gates expressed in his music what many of us felt at the time his songs were popular. I was single and searching for that one girl that I could laugh with, tell secrets to and be in love with. Yes,... Bread's music had that special touch.

In 1981, the college I attended held Friday night dances, which were well-attended. The DJ always, mostly for kicks, would encourage people to come up and sing. Most were horrid alcohol-induced debacles, but one night a young lady came up and sang this song so well that it left the usual raucous crowd in utter silence until she finished with the ultimate "AWAAAYYYY", whereupon the place erupted in applause and cheers. She brought the house down. Not sure what this has to do with anything, but this song always has me recalling this snippet in time..
Another legendary song by an amazing band... that music was years ahead of its time. David had a beautiful voice
Lost my Dad July 11 2023. He was my Best Friend as well as Dad , he and my Mom who I lost in 2007 were VERY CLOSE ! This song will always remind me of them
Beautiful, I put the quarter into the juke box, and danced with my girl in an empty college student center in Bloomsburg, Pa. 1971, and had the whole place to ourselves until we saw, at the tail end of the tune, a janitor who smiled, and "got it', and didn't interrupt us....great moment, I'll never forget...

My beloved Annie passed away on 1/28/2015 in Chicago. I sang this song to her at her hospice bedside as she peacefully crossed over and "flew away". I wish we both could have simply flown away... I Love You for ever and eternity AnnieFannie...
My Dad passed away in February of 1975 ... later that summer I heard this song and it made me think of him ... Bread did the kind of melodies and lyrics affecting a lot of people and different emotions. Sad and soulful.

I was born in june of 1964, the music of the 1960s and especially the 1970s shaped my life! I was fourtunate to have been here growing up with it! So many wonderful songs- and artists.. this music actually meants something in life.. A different era... There will never be anything like it again! Want proof? Just turn on your radio, you wont hear the 50s, you'll hear the gang banging crap of the last 30 years, but...... Youll also hear the beautiful music from this time that identifies with your heart, and your life... Teaches us that we are not alone, that others have been where we are, and that love conqures all things, even when your hurt... I guarantee you, that 100 years from now, that special decade of the 1970s will be playing.. And will bring comfort to all...
This used to be one of our favorite songs that someone who was so very special to me loved listening to & if she ever reads this she will know it was from me after all these years. Even thou we took different paths in our lives & had to start all over again & will never be able to go back all those years to those special times when we were young & so in love, there are still memories that only we shared & only know in our hearts that nobody else will ever know. 1981, AZ, camping, our Corvette. Miss you.
This song came out in my first year of marriage to my dear wife and high school sweetheart. I lost her four years ago. This song brings me back to our first year together. I miss her so.

Brings back some really great memories! Miss this kind of music . Those were good times!
Bread made great music! I've been a fan of theirs for quite a while. What's interesting is that although I'd heard a few of their songs on the radio, I didn't have any of their albums (I knew their songs, but not the name of the band). It wasn't until 1981, in my junior year of high school that a friend of mine (re)introduced me to Bread's music. He'd asked, "Have you heard of Bread?" I said, "No." He then mentioned If and Baby I'm a Want You, and I then immediately knew. He gave me the album The Best of Bread. I've been a huge fan ever since. Another interesting side note; Bread actually made an appearance in an episode of the television show, Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys Mysteries (I think this was in 1974 or 1975).
Oh how lovely to hear this at just the right moment! I feel transported to a place of warmth!

Hello swainson
One of my all time favorites !!!
This song is pure perfection in a timeless ballad !!! Bread was a great soft rock band !!!
This song is for me the best they ever made although all are good really. For some reason it makes me feel whenever I hear it. And now I am and old man at 71 both my sons have gone from home so when I reach home returning from work only my wife is there. And as the song says whenever I am disturbed or troubled by something she simply pours herself on me and makes me feel better. What a wonderful wife GOD gave me!
1971 I was 10 years old. I remember to hear this song walk down on my street going to church.
Oh so very beautiful words magic thanks
Passion and craft, that is what is missing with music these days.
Hot 100 Billboard 1971, still listening in 2018. Great song... 10/10
I was 11 when this song was released. Nixon was Pres. the Ford Pinto was the newest car. Disney world opened in October. 1971 was the year. gas was $0.36 cents a Gal. this song played on the radio alot so for all of you that just found this song, it was a time in life that was beautiful. things were easygoing. 6 years later I made love to this song with Katie, a Cheerleader (believe it or not) so it has a special place in my heart. so many great soft music songs of the 70's that are classics for us " geriatrics " it was a great time in life.
I can't explain it, but this song does something to me every time I hear it. Its simplicity and yet poignant.
I played weddings and parties in the 70's and always loved singing this song.
I can’t believe it this is the first time I’ve seen the face to this beautiful song, I was 14 working in a clothing factory in 1974 and this song was on the radio every day, but that was the last I heard of it till now, 2022 and I only now see the video wow that’s way to long. Beautiful song tho

Where are you from?
The memories of my younger days,, when life was fun,, are wrapped up in this timeless song ..... Thanks for sharing.....
I love the BREAD and their songs....
Minha eterna recordação!! Ouço If há 45 anos... Minha música com meu primeiro namorado (eu 13 ele 15) um amor puro e inocente que não existe mais nos dias de hoje.

Ironically, this was the song I sang when I was auditioning for a spot in the District Chorus back when I was in tenth grade, I passed the audition. And I made it to Regional Chorus all three times(sophomore, junior, and senior years in high school). How I managed to sing that without crying was a miracle itself!

Linda canção do Bred! Me emociono todas as vezes que ouço as músicas dele, naquela época não existia acesso a videos , parece que completou a saudade.
i was born in 74 and thankfully had a father who had excellent taste in music..this reminds me of sunday mornings back home when i was little and he'd blast his music to wake us up lol
One of the most beautiful love songs of my lifetime. Thanks to all who created and brought it to me, indeed, to all of us.
