Great song played often as I went through medical training at Ft. Sam Houston Tx, [ Combat Medic. Surgical Tech and OJT Op Rm, ] during the war.. Things were to get nasty as meat ball surgery is not for the faint of heart......I lost a lot of friends during those times who gave their full measure of devotion to duty and must always be remembered. As we get older we realize more the importance of the loss of these precious individuals, to the lives of so many of us. who loved them. I thank all those who served ! They're sweet, innocent and beautiful people who can't carry on with their dreams and their lives. So sad....it was the encouraging song that failed to encourage the singers. I found this song when I was searching for the Guitar solo many years ago,and couldn't get out of it until now. Living in this world is hard, but dealing with cruel people is harder. RIP.

YES. THIS song is rather haunting although very beautiful as well...the fact that they could not carry on. I mustve heard this as a child because when i recently heard it i remembered it without really knowing it existed, like i said...haunting.

Marvellous!! This was a very popular song in our school concert 40 to 50 years ago, when we had no walkman, no computer, no internet, no money to buy. Its until now when I could find the original singers in youtube. These young men are brilliant, but could not get the fame that they deserved.

man, the melody in this is unreal, the beatles level of mastery, this is paul McCartney level of songwriting, david gates should have been far more well known. He also had a gorgeous voice, this song takes you to heaven, even though its very sad and melancholic

I love all the Pilot hits but there's something about 'just a smile' that overwhelms me. Takes me back to those times. Happy, sad, uncomplicated seasons in the sun, but all past now. It's a wonderful song
