If a 1st Century Christian Had a Conversation with Your Average 2021 Christian

What do you get when you put a 1st century Christian in the same room as your typical American 2021 Christian?
Why... a perspective check of course!
Where's Emma when you need 'er?!
Fun facts:
-Budget: about $15. Maybe $15.32.
-Yes that's real wine. No, I didn't/don't drink it. Any respectable Greek girl in my family always has red wine, lemons, olive oil, garlic, and feta on hand for cooking.
-Yes I know the wine levels are inconsistent. I must live up to my mediocre satire name.
-Yes, that is a curtain on my head.
-Yes, I love the Church and my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. I think we need some perspective though.
-No, I don't think all Christians are like this. But this is most likely the type of 'cultural Christian' we would run into today.
-No I don't hate Joel Osteen... But he probably needs to meet a first-century Christian.
-No, he wasn't the only preacher I quoted directly in this. Most of what I say is complied from about four different preachers! They all need to meet a first-century Christian.
-Kudos and a high five if you get the coffee cup cameo and the running joke with it throughout the video ☕️😎
Credit: I got this idea from a video that had a similar idea about women in different times in history having conversations and I thought... okay... yeah... there's a lesson here in this for the Church.

The first century Christian‘s comment about reading the Bible reminded me of a story a visiting pastor to our church told. He was ministering I believe somewhere in South America, and The local church was having their weekly Bible ceremony. A husband who was visibly very upset stood up and explained that the past week had been the best week of their life because they had gotten to read the Bible. They kept their children home from school and read the Bible together from the time they got up to the time they went to bed and memorized large portions of it. It turned out, that the church only had one Bible for the entire congregation, and the members all shared it by passing it to a new family each week. The man was so upset because their week was up.

You miss the point. Look to the Bible to see how they were people of action. Stop following your "pastors", let them be overseers and teachers as they were originally intended. Pick up your own cross and go out into the world. God's church doesn't reside in a building meet on a certain day. It's a lifelong, worldwide community that needs to grow.

Just recently one of their group was beaten badly, and had to spend time in the hospital because of his injuries. His only crime was sharing the gospel. We got word this week that he was released from the hospital and is right back sharing the gospel with anyone who will listen. We are spoiled, and we can't take that for granted. ♥️

I don't her and I don't think there is anything wrong with the statement from her own end. When Jesus resurrected, He did not allow the disciples to preach the gospel until they were empowered by the Holy Spirit. Last month or so, I heard a pastor in the cessationist fold say that what Christians need to have the power of God is to study Theology. (Cessationists are those who call Jesus a liar by declaring that operations of the Holy Spirit ceased after the Day of Pentecost). What was Jesus' instruction to the early apostles/disciples? Did He instruct them to establish Bible Schools and Seminaries to prepare themselves for the ministry of the word? Even Paul said that what he learned about Christ was not taught him by any man, but he received revelations after spending time with God (Galatians 1:12). It's folly to think that Theology can take the place of the Holy Spirit. Let the blind follow this path. I choose the Scriptures over humanistic theories taught in Bible Schools and Seminaries.

    @PhoebeK

@@colecummings5104 The Orthodox Church is the continuation of the Church from the time of the Apostles, in our view it is the Roman Catholic Church which is Apostate for a variety of reasons but the big two are changing the Creed and making the Pope incharge of everyone. The Orthodox Church understands that she preaches the Gospel as it has always been preached directly from the Apostles in tradition and teachings handed down from generation to generation, the bible is a core part of this but by no means the totality, the services are as important both for the understanding of the faith and how to read the scriptures themselves. The point of Orthodoxy is to preach the Gospel that Christ was incarnate, died and rose from the dead defeating death, so setting us free from sin and death (though we have to struggle as well to make it a reality in our lives since the fallen nature would pull us back if we let it). The thing about Orthodoxy is that it is not a belief and you are saved Christianity it is knowing we are saved by baptism, working with God on being saved now and hoping we will be saved at the last judgment, a process of growing not a completion. Beyond that, I would suggest you look up your local Orthodox Church and come for a visit it is more of a Christianity to be experienced and lived than one which can be expressed in words.

@🌼Brianna Jenell🌼 That's the sad part...the Bible says we will be persecuted for being followers of Christ. However, most "Christians" in America are merely followers of mega celebrity "pastors or apostles or worse yet, prophets" & do little following of Christ's teachings or the Word of God. Powder puff Christians. True growth & faith in Jesus only comes through trials, tribulations, pain & suffering because it keeps us dependent on Jesus for His strength, peace, mercy, grace & forgiveness. American "Christianity" has sold a false bill of goods as to what "success" in the name of "Christianity" means. Success is not mentioned in the words of Paul or Timothy or the NT epistles. It's unfortunately what the Church of today thinks being a Christian is: Success, prosperity, health, having a ministry whereby you preach about all the great things you're entitled to as a follower of Jesus...just so sad & shameful. Satire or not, this is much closer to truth than should be.

While that is ridiculous, I understand the principle of going slow at first or during certain seasons. Ppl sometimes try to bite off more than they can chew, get discouraged, then stop studying altogether. Or think they need to watch the clock and take a whole hour, read a whole chapter regardless of length, etc. And when they can't make the time for it, or can't absorb the material, they feel guilty. To meditate on one verse a day shouldn't be for the rest of your life, but for a short time as you build up endurance and the ability to understand.

I believe that while this has to a degree happened, it is also happening within the entire world, another thing people forget is in the first world if you lack first world things you have just as many problems. Eg you can't get legal documents without an address, your kids will be taken from you if you don't have a mattress for them. You can't get clean water without payment etc. As for the imagined belief old time Christianity was better, I shall point to the hundreds of years of domination, murder and abuses of power found through the middle ages all the way into the 1700s.
