20 Facts I Wish I Knew As a New Christian

Just a heads up... I just had too much fun making this video. The sass... the tea... the lame jokes. Next level.
Today’s video are just ways to make you the most interesting person at your next dinner party. For those of you who are senior Christians, then just a heads up, this video isn’t really aimed at you, but who knows, there might be something you didn’t know! After a recent conversation with a new Christian, I realized that sometimes we forget that there are quite a few Christians that may not know these things, and we forget at one point there was a time that we didn't know these things either! So just consider this your fun Christian version of Snapple facts here on the Tubes of You.
*To elaborate on one fact: Stephen Langton is credited with dividing the Bible into chapters in 1227. Verses were added in 1551 and 1555 by Robert Stephanus, a Paris printer.

11 things I wish I knew as a new Christian: 1. The Sinner’s Prayer isn’t Biblical 2. You don’t have to hear God’s audible voice 3. You don’t have to “feel God” all the time 4. Sinless Perfection is impossible and heretical 5. Not everyone speaks in tongues 6. Faith is more than just mental ascent 7. When you pray, pray in faith 8. What it means to have a relationship with Jesus 9. God’s will for my life 10. The social gospel is a false gospel 11. Works are a natural fruit of genuine salvation, not what you force out

@Calm in the Storm You don’t have to “go to church”, but worshiping God and interacting with other believers are things Christians do (and obedience to the summary of the law, loving God and neighbor). As part of the body, we’re all called to love and interact with the church, that is, other believers. Since our churches are modeled after the early church’s forms of gathering and worship (though we’re much less hospitable), going to church is considered obeying these two commands, plus it’s easier than tracking down Christians yourself or only choosing to spend time with those you find the easiest to love (which would be unChristlike).

I remember watching my very young children looking at their preschool storybook Bible. My one year old son pointed to the tree in the story of Adam and Eve and said, "Apple tree!" My three year old daughter responded, "No, William, that's a knowledge of good and evil tree!" 😂

I've been a Christian for 30+ years and I sort of take it for granted that: - Life is purpose driven, every day I get out of bed and go 'yeah!' - Happiness and pleasure are two totally different things. People persue pleasure and often end up miserable - Jesus was perfect. Looking at any other person througout history shows that mankind is infected with sin. But Jesus is the answer. - In the West (which was once known as Christendom) we have the happiest countries in the world. Sadly, a lot of the West is going down-hill.

I would say yes and no. First, if one does not understand the context of traditions and ignores the historical context in which they existed particularly in the sense of art, music and architecture, one cannot blame the tradition itself, but the person's own lack of understadning. Pick up a book or do a google search. The history behind winged angels and halos for example is fascinating if you are an art buff. I am more inclined on the musical end of the spectrum, so traditions there is more of my interest.

When I started reading the Bible at age 14 (I am 33 now), I wished someone had told me that the bible contains 66 books broken up into two testaments that is not necessarily in chronological order. 2 жыл бұрын

@@lyssalouise2705 Yes that's my point. I have read it in order from cover to cover. However, as a new believer, this is not the best way to go about reading the scriptures because you need to have foundations laid regarding who Jesus is, what he came to do, and what he expects of us as individuals and within the church. All this can be read in the new testament. Then, a new believer should read the old testament because the foundation laid by the new testament will be reinforced and the stories of the old testament will make more sense. It's also important to note that certain books in the old testament don't progress the biblical narrative further. These include the Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiasties and some of the profets. These are all key details that need to be known so the reader isn't confused; especially if they are a new disciple of Christ. Today, I personally go through the old and new testaments in a year time frame. So it takes me two years to read the entire bible. Doing this helps me do a deep dive into what I am reading, cross referencing key details found in other books of the bible that reinforce my understanding. For example, the book of Hebrews makes many references to old testament scriptures. As I read through this book, I take my time and read in context what is being referenced in the old testament so that I understand what the author of that book is trying to convey. I hope that makes sense.

@@chopppacalamari The Christian doctrine is the gospel of grace NOT the gospel of the KIngdom. ETERNAL LIFE COMES FROM THE TREE OF LIFE IN THE KINGDOM. THE SCRIPTURES ARE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST. The promise of the Kingdom and Israel being exalted above all other nations is what Peter and the apostles looked forward to. The Kingdom which brings in the new covenant according to the book of Hebrews 9 & 10 will be so impressive it will draw Gentiles to the Jews who are to be a light to the world. Zech.8 [23] Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you. Seriously based on that and many OT prophecies for Israel and it's kingdom does it seem as if people in the age of grace are saved by that? In Jesus's ministry the KIngdom was at hand but never came because of unbelief. All the Jews had to do was believe that Jesus was the Son of God, the Christ and obey the Law of Moses. Under the gospel of grace Christ is the foundation but we must believe in the shed blood for forgiveness, His death, burial and resurrection. Basically what the apostle Paul teaches us Gentiles. Not quite the same. He was raised to give us eternal life but for the Jew according to Peter in Acts 2 [29] Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. [30] Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; When Christ is reigning in the Kingdom eternal life comes FROM THE TREE OF LIFE Rev.2 [7] He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. Rev.22 [2] In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 4 Things I wish I knew as new believer: 1. You can't take all the doctrines and mash them up. There's a difference between a local strategy and a whole doctrine. 2. Repentance doesn't mean regret and cry but the radical decision to turn away from your sin towards God (repent= metamorphos - transformation) 3. There is only one truth but you have to stay humble and just follow the Scriptures and can't just live on emotions. 4. Its more fearful to fall into the hands of demons than into the hands of God because He loves us. ( I was terrified of cherubims and couldn't sleep so I asked the Lord to keep them away from me) I had a demonic attack later and it was like... Man I think I prefer fall into the hand of God. Those being are scary but on my side at least.

Yup. And contrary to misconception by some (including Lutherans themselves), it wasn’t entirely anyone’s fault. Books were hard to make before the printing press and the materials used were rather expensive. So the Church chained down the Bible, not because they didn’t want people to read it, but because it could be stolen and pawned, leaving nothing for anyone in the area to read. Where the Church WAS wrong was putting its authority over the Scriptures and also persecuting Wycliffe for his English translation for the common people.

You’re right about the importance of understanding the Bible from the perspective of the original audience. I love learning from Messianic Jews. One amazing thing I learned recently was that Bethlehem Ephratah was specifically the agricultural district in Bethlehem. The profound significance of this is only understood when you realize that this is where all of the sacrificial lambs were bred and raised for the sacrifices in the Temple in Jerusalem. They would even wrap them in swaddling cloth for transit to Jerusalem to protect them from wounds or marks of any kind. I’ve always know He was born in an animal pen and placed in a manger, but I never would have made the sacrificial lamb connection on my own.

My youth group is doing the Battle Plan for Prayer study by the Kendrick brothers and apparently that prayer position came from the tradition of serfs paying homage to their king in the middle ages. The serfs would gather at set times and come, one-by-one, to kneel before the king and place their folded hands in his, saying "I'm your man". Apparently the church adopted this position of prayer as symbolic of paying homage to God as our king.

There are a few instances when people pray kneeling down in the Bible. Here's a few: Daniel 6:10 When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously. Luke 22:41 And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed, (that's Jesus praying) Acts 21:5 When our days there were ended, we departed and went on our journey, and they all, with wives and children, accompanied us until we were outside the city. And kneeling down on the beach, we prayed

Yeah, my dog is near my recording space and she likes to growl and grunt while I make a video… fun times! This is so good! People don’t talk about fact 20 enough.

I’m 14% or maybe even 25% smarter now🤣 This was very informative and you did a great job in a couple of sentences explaining it.

This was great! Thank you! I do remember when I first came to God, and I thought literally all of these. 😂 I remember later having a disagreement with someone because they kept saying Mary was a hooker, and they wouldn’t believe me saying that that actually wasn’t in scripture. And this person was an elder with many years in the church. It blew my mind to see older Christians believing what I sorted out in months. It’s a very strange dichotomy I’ve run into a lot!

Yes! Oh thank you so much! I was just having a conversation with a fellow new Christian and as a new Christian myself, we have found it all a little overwhelming to understand. I know understanding will come but very much welcome your videos 🙏 God bless you
