Over ears are for noobs. Just go to a real music performance and appreciate this clear, clean, open sound. Even listening speakers in your room doesnt come close to a real live performance. Lets just stop listening to the music at all and go to a concerts 2-3 times a year.

IEM’s do suck! That said, Apple’s Spatial Audio is pretty convincing. Same with Sony’s version and even Windows 3D audio makes a decently convincing soundstage. IEM’s are glorified hearing aids and never were intended for critical listening. Music reproduction tier list: Speakers>Open back hp’s>In ear hp’s>Shitty bt speakers>IEM’s. I’ve never heard an IEM that isn’t 90% treble w/ 10% midrange. Not to mention, one slight mistake with gain and your hearing just aged several decades in one instant.

  • @kellycny65

This video is HILARIOUS. Let's count the hypocrisy, part by part: 1. You own the Nova, yet you rip them. If they're so bad, why do you still own them? If IEMs suck, why do you still have them? Why is the Nova -- which isn't that special and is tuned to the Harman IEM curve that you supposedly hate -- your poster boy for IEMs? 2. IEMs have less soundstage than an open-back. Uh, no shit, Sherlock: Most IEMs are sealed, so they'll have less stage by design. But hey, we could all go buy the HD 800S, which are a one-trick soundstage pony with shitty overall tuning, especially in the treble. There's more to headphone tuning than soundstage. 3. You cite the HD 650/6XX as an example of soundstage in an open-back. LOL. That model is great -- I love my 6XX. It also has some of the narrowest, three-blob stage of an over-ear, open-back headphone. 4. "IEMs suck for movement in a gym. IEMs are made for people on stage singing." So, Mick Jagger and Taylor Swift never move around on a stage while wearing IEMs? They're rooted to the stage? Ho-kay ... 5. You say you would rather listen to the Truthear Nova than wireless IEMs because all wireless IEMs sound like shit. Yet, the Truthear Nova is tuned to Harman, which you also say you hate in this video. So, what is it? I own over-ears and IEMs. Enjoy both, with use cases for both. This video is just straight-up trolling, as usual. Comic gold.

Personally, I haven’t found any form factor of producing sound to be obviously better than another. The highest resolving power I’ve ever heard is dml speakers (5W Dayton audio/foamboard). The best bass I’ve ever heard, Truthear Nova (with Qudilex 5K). The best midrange I’ve ever heard, Planar over ears. Most comfortable to wear, IEMs. Most modifiable , on ears. Best overall sound impression, still goes to the Truthear nova, beating over ear and on ear headphones for me. The content, your ears, and the listening volume matters for overall sound impression. I don’t really care about sound reproduction, which is what I assume you are talking about for this video. Yes, IEMs are really not good for natural sound reproduction, but can still sound good in the right context.

ngl bro i think the only reason u havent dumped lcd-5 for ur speakers is because it costed 4.5k. headphones have even less use cases than iems, or atleast nothing a pair of speakers can't do. had you bought the DELIGHTFUL and ILLUSTRIOUS $900 MOONDROP COSMO you would've been solely using speakers

Dude I'm not a clown hahaha. I use IEMs not for shooting for the holy grail of sound reproduction though 😀 I quite enjoy my orchestra lite with small sancai tips. Its the smoothest affordable option I know but mostly for my DAP for when I go to the beach or somewhere to just chill.

Also I don't think the Harman target is an accurate target for simulating good speakers in a room. It may have the basic curve but not the fine grain. This is why I usually like something a little off and fine tuned and not exactly harman. And yes 2 speakers are not like realistic sound simulation but its fun stuff, more than iems with ear resonances thats for sure.

@@Sharur1 hahaha but enjoying them is my only factor and I am not taking the thing as a reference. Tuning it with these small sancai tips just removes that upper bass tuck that I dislike so much in iems plus it doesn’t have a resonance peak when inserted deep enough in my ears. Those are the main unique factors that I like about them. Plus they look cool

The problem is that you are treating Harman as the perfect target curve. While it's close to being perfect for most people, it will almost never be perfect for any individual. The Truthear Nova is a very good starting point because it matches Harman very well, so it will get you about 90% there. However, the last 10% can only be achieved with EQ. What I like to do is watch field recordings of natural sounds, such as someone walking down a street, people talking, a car passing by, a car beeping, birds chirping, wind blowing on tree leaves, the rain, waterfalls, etc. Our brain is very familiar with these natural sounds, so you will be able to identify any issues in the frequency response much easier than with music. These sounds are also very complex and will not sound correct on most headphones/IEMs without proper EQ. The recordings also tend to be very flat and accurate. You can try to EQ whatever you have so that these sounds are as close as possible to real life. Another solution is if you have flat speakers, you can try to match whatever else you have to those speakers. Headphones have their own advantages and disadvantages, and the same goes for IEMs, but IEMs are smoother and more consistent sounding. Once you EQ them, they will usually sound better tonally.

BTW, you're right that IEMs have to be compromised in some regard but in-ears (or smaller audio devices) are definitely the future, though not wired. It's just so convenient to stick something in your ear and play sound and with more research we could have personalized audio that actually works. And IEMs are just easier to manufacture.

Unless the IEM could tap into your brain, it will never sound like speakers soundwaves vibrating throughout your body. It is possible to simulate the way you naturally hear sound with your ears, but not how you "hear" it from speakers with your entire body.

I don't mind the presentation of IEMs at all honestly. I think in most cases, you can get better imaging (also due to isolation) in IEMs than on headphones. I actually feel like I'm inside the game when I use them for gaming and I only get startled by IEMs in that regard. Headphones in general have too many other compromises that make them fatiguing to listen to or they just have worse clarity overall.

IEM or headphone f**** the stereo. So never spend a lot of money in it, and you find good neutral response headphone for good price akg 240mk2, akg 371, beyerdynamic 880, jbl tune 660 and in worst you go on rting and EQ after a little your headphone. For IEM used the Samsung akg type c 30€ and now the moondrop chu 2 cos very neutral and easy to clean filter cos sometimes hear more detail when i work on music, when i can't use my main monitoring like night But anyway when i use it, I always use soft like waves nx or 112db redline for recreate the cross over with the head dimension, it's only at this moment i find a good listenning experience. If it's to go outside , public transport or others just take jbl vibe 100tws it's cheap and neutral do the work to get good sound without cable issue.
