David is one of my favorite guests, his stories are so entertaining
Ayahuasca comes with a lot of vomiting. A lot. And sometimes uncontrollable defecation. People who do it as a religious practice call this part “the purge,” which Alyx briefly mentions it when talking about the leader purging and vomiting for everyone over and over. They think they are purging their bodies of basically any and all physical or mental issues. Then the high sets in and it’s similar to psychedelics and is particularly known for making people dissolve their boundaries. In other words, they will do embarrassing things in front of others, reveal secrets, act in bizarre ways. Ayahuasca rituals are a common part of cults for these reasons. Same with the other things she listed: isolation, fasting, sleep deprivation, constant chanting and mediation - those things put you at an even more vulnerable place so that you are susceptible to more spiritual effects as “evidence” of whatever they claim. So you feel completely disassociated, and your brain is mush from both the drugs and the constant sensory manipulation, and when you feel super moved to tears or feel the spirit moving through you by the end of it, it becomes clear that it’s all real. But in reality you’re just completely out of your mind and exhausted. But Ethan: you’re wrong. She’s not “in too deep.” She only attended one retreat. She needs to be rescued which means deprogramming and an intervention. But Ethan is not qualified for this and so having her on could be a nightmare. This requires specific expertise and care.

I have a feeling I know what cult talking about. I don’t know the name of it, but I know there’s a cult that goes into the Cobb Estate in Pasadena. They’re know for going into the forest very late at night and they’ll chase you out if they catch you spying on them. I’ve never had them chase me but when I was in high school me and my friends would smoke late at night at Cobb estate and we knew we weren’t alone, we knew someone was with us in the hills watching us. But us being so young and thinking we’re indestructible we weren’t scared at the time. Now it’s creepy

It's crazy how unaware she is, too when she mentioned that all her friendships ended abruptly. She actually received very minimal criticism on Twitter (i remember i was there for it) she took the very nuch warranted critique to heart and decided to leave after apologizing. she's a grown woman in her thirties, no one canceled her or ran her away. 100%. I was and am a huge fan of hers, and I felt her pulling away from content creation before the backlash even happened. You could feel that her heart wasn't in it as much as it was before in her videos the months leading up to it. She also mentioned in her final video and in an older podcast episode that she has always been her own harshest critic. That, combined with the need to step away from being a public figure led to her taking that incident and turning it into her own "cancellation". At this point - as much as I would give anything to have new videos from her again - as long as she's happy, I'm happy. She's fed us enough over the years and even though that final backlash definitely warranted an apology, I respect her for fully owning up to it and delivering what I (and everyone else) consider to be one of the best KZread apologies of all time.

She pretty much saw a way out, and she dipped. But I believe she wanted to probably apologize for content that was hanging on her conscience before she left. As much as I miss her, I support her 100% because I can't imagine being on the internet the way she was.

So what’s wild to me with the Ayyydubs stuff is that I used to follow her a lot then I just fell away before she went missing. I heard about it from the tiktok and began looking her up periodically to see if anything was updated. I just looked last the DAY BEFORE she came back. Listening to her talk in the vid really feels like she found out about the worry and people were being very investigative and were coming close to actually getting spotlight on the shut that this cult ACTUALLY does so they had her make a video saying “I’m okay” and trying to promote it to make it seem like a good normal thing. It really just feels like some shit is off with that video.

Ian had a great response to someone saying “you’re being to hard on yourself, it wasn’t that bad” during his stream today. And it was that having that position only comes from a place of privilege. You weren’t a victim of some of the bad shit he did, and likely have never been subject to hateful speech that was propagated by his past actions. And Charlie’s take is that exactly. It’s a take that comes from a place of privilege.
@AllTheArtsy
Жыл бұрын
Not only does it come from a place of privilege, it also comes from lack of compassion. Ian is apologizing to his victims. Because he did a trasgression and he hurt them. Charlie finds it totally bizarre, as if he doesn't understand the concept of saying sorry when you hurt someone. He's just looking at it as a contet creator and "best practices" for apology videos. It's so cold, calculated and lacking in empathy.
@nexithedestroyer

I agree, people speaking for others to say it wasn't that bad is incredibly dismissive. I saw alot of poc talk about how they had to suffer to consequences of the behavior Ian justified in the past through being bullied and harassed. Plus hearing about the trans person who wanted a pic with Ian but because sacred they wouldn't be liked :(I'm glad Ian is pissing everyone off to condemn this behavior because he could potentially encourage a new auidence of people to change too

He was physically threatening me and my roommate on a weekly basis. I went to the police and all they did was ask me why I haven’t been there before if he was giving me issues because they can’t do anything unless I went there multiple times to complain.
