Idiot Learns 3-D Modeling for Cosplay [Star-Lord Cosplay from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2]
Hey everyone! This is my first time working with Fusion 360...or any 3-D Modeling program for that matter! I have been wanting to learn 3-D modeling so I can start using it to 3-D Model accessories for cosplay projects.
Adam was a great instructor and I hope that his directions and watching me learn some 3-D Modeling basics will help someone out there. As Someone that was intimidated to learn how to 3-D model something, I was pleasantly surprised with how user friendly Fusion 360 is.
Tell me about a project or new technique that you were intimidated to try but ended up tackling anyway!
A BIG Thank you to Nova Props for giving me permission to use his lovely pendants as a reference for this model. His props are high quality and affordable! Here's where you can find Nova Props on social media and Etsy:

I've worked as an animator and 3D modeller for about 5 years, using Maya. I've just started learning Fusion 360 as well and it took me 3-4 hours to make a very simple strandbeest leg. So don't feel bad. There is always so much to learn when it comes to 3D modelling. But the results are well worth it. Great job. Can't wait to see more.
It's so funny seeing Adam and you candidly interacting. Reminded me of my husband and I. Lol
I really struggle with 3D Modeling and have no one to teach me and I found this video SO INCREDIBLY HELPFUL! Thank you so, so much for making this!
I just ordered my first 3d printer and was looking for good programs to use and how to use them. This video helped out so much. Thank you both! 😊
Ah, I love these two together :) such bliss :)
Hes such a bear. Awww.

ZonZonZonbi that's awesome! But I have found that modeling at 10-11 pm or later isn't always a great idea😂😂😂
This was cool. Looks tedious but totally doable, thanks! Also the update pop up was hilarious XD

Thank you! I'm happy this helped you.
I'd really recommend looking at the Fusion 360 tutorials out there - thought I was competent until I saw some of the easier shortcuts out there! 😂
For something flat like that it's probably easier to edit the picture in photoshop to remove everything you don't want, turn it into an svg in inkscape and then use that for the extrude faces.
Turning the canvas opacity down will make it easier to trace edges, I would of used splines for the two swopy bits I find them easier to move into position than arcs.

Thanks Les! That's great advice.
Semi-pro tip: Use the spline tool for the waves at the bottom. ;-)

ZonZonZonbi woooah 😲😲 omgomgimg lemme see
A couple of things: 1. First off, you are DEFINATELY NOT an idiot!!! 2. I'm not sure what model 3d printer you and Adam own, or just have access to. But, most 3d printers want the models to be made with the metric system, rather than imperial. If your model is in inches, then when you go to 3d print it, you may get some VERY unexpected results. So, if you take a look in the program preferences, you should be able to reset the measurements to millimeter. (After doing so, you may need to adjust THIS current model, to get it the right size. But, you should have much better results when you print) Joel, the "3d printing nerd", should be able to help you tweak the settings for the program, and your specific printer, to get them to work together at their very best.
ADAM!!!! OMG DO YOU KNOW MORE ROOSTER TEETH PEOPLE?!?!?
I don't have to sound like those fans that always ships the KZreadr and someone else all the time but Adam digs you and he's kinda like a bear lol not the scary one. The adorable one.

Look into the ones from MonoPrice. Relatively inexpensive and will get you started.

The Monoprice Select Mini is only $200 and works great. It is small though, when you're making cosplay stuff. Then you maybe better save a little bit longer and get a Creality CR-10, for around $360. I have them both and love them a lot.
you will get better
Rost and Aloy.
for ever alone
"...... ... Adam :D"
For copying all you need to do is extrude everything then copy and paste the existing body. Faster.
