    Where the crack is on the old sump is where the moulding machine holds the sump during manufacture. The new sumps are same material but the spot where held during moulding is an inch or so to the right on the corner where the composite is thicker.

    Nice one Allen nice one Elliot, I’ve fitted one of those water heaters years ago and after 15 years the client finally got me to service it, one thing that could be mentioned which is a common fault after years of service, if the hot water is not great always check the water governor for a split diaphragm 👍🏻

    Still come across a few of the old Water heaters. On the logics do you do a full strip every year, I put my scope camera inside and if they look good just clean the electrodes, and run a bit of water through with my specially adapted water bottle.

    Excellent video - thank you. As an ‘interested consumer’ why are these plastic composites cracking? Bad design, wrong materials, thermal cycling, acidic attack? Has the manufacturer ever fessed up? Looking at the one where the screws were examined it does appear the crack may have its in origin in the receiving threaded hole which may be the ‘stress raiser’. Sorry lots of questions but that’s the engineer in me - would be interested in your views?

  • @AllenHart999

    @AllenHart999

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Norman. Very good question. Most boilers have common faults, Ideal boilers have updated the sump now so hopefully, they will last longer. They always seem to crack in the same place, This is one of the reasons to have your boilers serviced every year. Thanks.

    Hi Alan, I am looking for a replacement combi, is the Ideal vogue a better bet than the Logic range in your opinion, I understand it has a stainless steel Heat exchanger and obviously will cost more. Although retired and never been in the Heating/plumbing industry I love watching your videos, Regards John

  • @AllenHart999

    @AllenHart999

    3 жыл бұрын

    It’s all about personal choice. I really like the Vogue but it costs a lot more than the logic. You can also have a logic with a 10 year warranty. As long as the boiler is serviced and you have hot water then either would be ok. Just remember to have the boiler serviced to keep up with the warranty. My choice i would go for the Vogue over a logic though. Hope that helps. Thanks.

    Remove gas valve, remove bracket holding spark generator, loosen screws on hex a little , pry of the front 3 clips holding on the sump, grab the front of sump where inspection hatch goes, pull hex toward you and at same time pull down and push back on the sump. Hopefully you should dislodge the right and the middle rear sump clip. Get a large screwdriver and put between top of sump and bottom of hex on left hand side and lever down, this should snap of the las sump clip. Remove sump. To reinstall, some lube on sump seal, get the front 3 clips in then get a large shifter or something and hit bottom of sump till the rear clips engage. Top tip.... always get a mirror and check rear clips are fully home. You can tell usually when home as hex kind of springs back but always check with mirror

    Amused that this video popped up, yesterday my uncle's Ideal Logic Combi 30 or whatever it is crapped out, seems the diverter valve has gotten stuck, and looking over the thing, screw fixing that myself, so much plastic!!! I have a Potterton Promax Combi HE 28, and it's for the most part metal parts (except the diverter motor, which has previously failed so has a new one), but that Ideal thing, goodness me, all that plastic inside of something that gets HOT, ugh, what an utter piece of shite... :\
