    Officer Bullock deserves credit for being able to say the HOA owns the road and it is private property with a straight face. If it truly is a private road, why are the taxpayer funded police patrolling it?

  • @shenmisheshou7002

    @shenmisheshou7002

    The officer was responding to a call, and even if it is a private road, they still may enter because they have been requested to do so. In most states though, if your road is private and you wish it to be closed to the public, you have to put a sign that it is a private road and a No Trespassing sign. Now many cops are stupid, and Cop #1 seems like he may have been as dumb as a sack of rocks.

    @@robertmcnearny9222 Even if it is a private road, to trespass, they have to have the permission a member of the HOA or a resident. If it is a private road though, in most states, it has to be marked, and if you don't want people on the road, you have to put a No Trespassing sign. If you are trespassed, you do not have to ID, you only have to leavy upon notification that you are trespassing.

    I was parked in front of my mothers automotive shop one night after work because I needed to use the Wi-Fi to turn in some online schoolwork (we don’t have Wi-Fi at our house because we live too far out in the country). After an hour or so of sitting there 3 cops pull up. They ask what I’m doing and I explain and let them know I have permission to be there. Naturally they didn’t believe me and wanted ID and asked if I had been drinking. I tell them no and one officer sticks her head in my window, sniffs loudly, and asks are you sure about that. I end up doing a breathalyzer and they finally decide to leave me alone, but as they’re leaving I realize one of them kept my ID, so I had to run him down to get it back. To this day I wish I had been more educated on my rights and had held them accountable.

Why not assume that the caller is exaggerating or lying and the subject of the call is innocent and telling the truth? That NEVER happens. And Karens like this call the police all the time over nothing.

    I read about one case in which a woman brought her car to a mechanic who told her it needed some expensive repairs before it would be safe to drive. She refused to pay for it and demanded her car back, which the mechanic refused because he didn't want (or couldn't legally accept) liability for her driving an unsafe vehicle. So she called the police. They had her sign a form acknowledging that she takes full responsibility for the condition of the car and the mechanic released it to her. She tried driving away and the police immediately arrested her for reckless driving and impounded the car.

It does take courage to swallow ones own (normal and natural) desire to dominate the scene and prevent yourself from taking things personally and seeing everything as a challenge to your authority. He likely prevented the encounter from unnecessarily escalating while he performed his duty within the law. It is officers like Shockley, who I trust and am grateful for.
