That spot on southbound I 55 just south of Loughborough is a great spot to sit and watch people that do not know how to drive in sleet and snow. That whole section is elevated and people don’t realize how quickly that will freeze.

When winter hits us in northern Michigan we see a lot of accidents like this because people tend to forget how to drive on slick roads. After about a week or so, the memory kicks in and a lot fewer.

A big thanks to all viewers and subscribers for your support of the channel! I apologize if some of these clips were previously posted earlier this year, but KZread's algorithm many times doesn't show those individual videos until they are assembled into the bigger highlights compilations. Winter weather will be here soon, and more coverage around the country is planned. Stay tuned, subscribe for new videos and check out and share the icyroadsafety.com site for tips, videos and information to help keep you and your family safe on the roads this winter.

I love living in the deep south on the coast. It is rare that we get winter ice/snow. We did have a breaking record snow storm back in 2017 of 4 1/2 ". We knew not to get out in it.

Whenever I see my dashboard flashing this ⚠️❄️ that is a sign that the temperature is dropping and its getting colder I always assume that the Roadway is Icy and super slippery. So IF the Posted speed limit is 65 then I gotta turn my 4 way flasher/Hazard Lights on and drop down my speed to 20mph or 15mph. The lower the speed I have the more Control I can get. I have been driving Semi Trucks in 16 years, yeah not much experience though compare to 40 year drivers. But my 16 years of driving NO Minor or Major Accident, Accident Free and NO DUI, not speeding ticket, except random DOT scale house citations. All is well.

It must be particularly frustrating to camp at a site and film where practically every single vehicle loses traction ... from just a slight shimmy to a full blown spinout. Nerve wracking, at least.

Most people lock up their brakes. Next time you start to skid in a passenger car truck or van just simply shift your transmission into neutral. Then apply the brakes. It takes power off the wheels and you’ll have steering. Slow down, don’t panic like throwing it past neutral into reverse. Most modern cars that won’t do harm but seconds count in these situations. What I tell people in winter is know exactly what you have to do to get it in neutral and be ready to use it, it can save your life or at least keep you and others from harm and vehicle damage. Went to tractor trailer school and got a CDL A but no expert on those bc I didn’t pursue it. My youngest brother though who drove for CRST told me he would pump the clutch to maintain control of his rig in those moments. Which to me sounds like the same thing (taking the truck out of gear).

2 reasons for all this property damage. 1. You shouldn't have been driving in the first place, 2. Driving way to fast for the seriously sketchy conditions. Leave the drifting to the professionals

  • @barilles7510

A lot of these Morons are Not Paying attention to the Road up ahead, If y'all looking a Mile ahead then y'all will know what's going on ahead of you, then you can respond so quickly and avoiding sliding and drifting. Plus driving in a adverse weather conditions with a Summer tire or Worn out tires is really stupid.

1:50 - it's so irritating to me. Just stop braking and reapply them - I know it ,,should" do it for you (ABS) but in very slick conditions it does not. I guess having my first car without that luxury (ABS) taught me thing or two about driving. + If there is a winter season in your country/state/area - have winter tires. My brother had a crash while going 40MPH and I didn't (went straight on a roundabout), and I was following him. He had all season tires, I had winter ones. Another thing is - 4x4 / AWD will get you started, but won't help you stop.
