Icon Add-A-Leaf Tacoma/Tundra Review - It's Not That Great

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I'm not convinced that this Icon Add-A-Leaf is that great of a product. The ride is improved, but I'm confused and dissatisfied by the lift height.

I went with the Icon RXT leaf packs. Love the ability to configure differently based on bed & cargo weight.

Great video here. Looking at lifting my truck as well. I imagine you would have preferred the add-a-leaf over lifting blocks for the rear? Im seeing alot of people running a spacer in the front and a block in the rear. Im leaning towards not doing this and upgrading to bilsteins up front and add-a-leaf in the rear just as you have but hoping to get 2-3'' lifted and leveled. thanks for making these videos.

The icon, all pro, and wheelers are all the same part. I got about an 1.5” on my double cab 6 foot bed Tacoma with a wheels AAL. The tacoma composite bed is much lighter

As a 2nd Gen Tacoma owner with a full leaf spring pack by Icon (matched with Bilstein 5160 shocks), they're phenomenal. I got them installed by an offroad shop about 2.5 years ago. Initially I got 3" of lift but it's since settled to about 2" of lift (matched with 2" up front on 6112's). I had the shop install the medium load bearing pack (meaning I still have an extra leaf spring). At one point (and the reason I got the lift at all) I was driving cross country with everything I owned, and a Leer shell with a hardshell RTT mounted on top. About 1,000 lbs of total weight, and the springs performed flawlessly. Now though i only have the shell and maybe another 80-100 lbs in the back at all times and they're still great. I can't speak to a Tundra's experience but for me, they're way better than stock. Would get them all over again. The parts were about $700 when I had them ordered.

Unfortunately, I don’t think Icon makes a leaf pack for the 1st Gen tundra. Glad you’re happy with your setup though!

I've got a 2nd gen longbed Taco with the Icon AAL and an ARE topper with OTR/bedliner spray. Original leaf springs had 120k miles on them when I threw on the AAL. It's been great for the past couple years. Still maintains a slight rake with my 2.5" lift up front. When loaded down with around 300lbs, it starts to level out. I think I will upgrade to the RXT leaf pack once it wears out.

i've got the Icon AAL on my 05 reg cab tundra. i kept the overload on it and with my cap i got ~1.5" of lift.. no complaints. towing is a very good with it.. without the overload left on i would of been disappointed with the lift. all that being said in the future i hope to go with a archive garage medium duty set of leafs (maybe HD.. it is my primary tow rig.. but ive seen no need for more load capacity with what ive got already)

I ordered HD springs from General Spring for my 2005 double cab. Instead of a 3/1 spring pack, the HD's are 4/1. They ride nice, not harsh at all and they firm up the ride really well. I can't remember off hand how much lift they give, but my truck doesn't sag in the rear anymore when it's loaded with stuff and things

@@208Tyler I put an OME front suspension on my truck and it gave me 2 1/2" of lift in the front. With the stock setup, the rear sat about 3/4" lower than the front. With the HD springs, the rear is about 1/2" taller empty and perfectly level loaded...

My first attempt at lifting the rear of the TBst I use the ICON add-a-leaf. I remove the overload leaf as well. In the end, the only lift I got was the thickness of the leaf pack. I would just bin the OG springs and addaleaf and call Eric at Archive Garage.

I feel the same way but if you add the iron man 4x4 load helper and the icon add a leaf it’ll lift and remove sag with load and the downside it’ll ride a tad more rougher as I’ve experienced with my 01 tundra

I have a 02 AC Tundra just like yours put this on with a bilstein 5100 lift and I kept the overload in and it’s definitely close to 1.5” taller. Also I have the HD leaf pack form factory with a extra leaf in the middle so in total, I had 5 leaf springs not the normal 4. That might have affected why I only got .5” of lift. If you still have the overload I would just put it back in.

@@208TylerNo didn’t measure but 100% taller than .5” like 1.25-1.5 I would say but I also have an extra leaf than you do already so idk. Do what you will with this. And also all of this is with nothing in the bed. It would be cool to see what you go to if you go with something different. Also are you still doing rock sliders?

So this is actually what was originally advertised as a progressive overload. Somewhere in the last couple years they changed the description. When I installed the Icon progressive overload spring pack, I did a bunch of research mainly on Tacoma world, and found several people that kept the overloads. I went the same route installing the Icon overload pack between the overloads and the main spring pack. My main reason for adding the Icon pack, was to combat the droopy rear end that Toyotas are famous for- I tow small 10-12’ utility trailers and even empty they still dropped the rear end. Full disclosure- I run a set of ARB expeditions rear springs with the ARB add-a-leaf with no rear sway bar( truck didn’t have one when I bought it) the Icons and ARB overload springs gave me about 2- 1/2” of lift and a lot less sway. Additional bonus my trailers run just a touch nose high, tows great. Well as good as a Tacoma can tow anyway.

Does say on their site that it'll sag more under load with the add a leaf than the regular leaf pack. I read that as good offroad, but not for loading up. Guessing the weight of your fiberglass topper is what's mainly not giving you the lift. Heavier bed than a tacoma, camp gear, etc doesn't help either. When I stand on my tailgate it drops almost an inch. Curious what it would be without the topper on. I'd chuck that overload spring back in and see how it rides. Great info, man. Thanks
