12:35 this is for adjusting the filter limits, it won’t let you monitor the difference unless you go back and select the TBW button in the operating menu. Just thought of sharing this. Thanks for the video.

I have the IC-705 and the backpack coming in. On my first non-rent payday. I will start accessory buying. I will definitely consider the the two speaker version of this.

Well done. Great suggestion on the headset. I looked up the price it's great. Also, liked the audio setup. My FT-991 on the base is setup, but my portable FT-891 has never been setup. Got to get with the program.....smile..!!! Thanks from the USA..!!!

Hi Peter, yep a headset when working portable is a must :) Regarding the 705, I just follow the icom instructions for mic gain. Compression off, increase mic gain for 1/3 alc movement, then add level 3-4 compression or whatever is need to keep it under 7dB or so of compression. Regarding the transmit bandwidth. The TX ssb settings only configures the bandwidth, you actually have to change the one that is in use by using FUNCTION button and page1, tap on TBW to change from nar/mid/wide. Keep safe and 73 :)

Super useful video, Peter. When out portable, particularly in remote locations at a significant height, wind is my biggest enemy (XYL nods vigorously in agreement!), so having a binaural setup works better for me.

It astonishes me that the HTH-I does work on the IC-705. As the IC-705 usually has a 4-pin 2,5mm plug for mic/PTT, but the HTH-I only has the common 3-pin pendant. Great to see that it works anyway.

You need to look at the Icom version that has twin plugs. The IC-705 has twin mic sockets like their handhelds. 73 Peter.

The manufacturers of those fine rigs have dedicated many hours in R&D as such their microphones are made to suits the needs of the front end and by doing so producing a clean and linear output. (there is no mention of their product "working better" or "sounding better" with other microphones). Strangely we know of many who work outside using a condenser microphone ( as part of their headset ), those headsets might be suitable for an indoor situation but suffer from noise when used in a windy area ( over-compression is also common giving a "good signal" yet bad readability ). For those who want to "squeeze" some more power and punch, or better sounding audio, don't worry about underpowered QRP radio, just take your 100w rig with and keep your signal nice, linear, and clean, all while keeping your rig cold as ice while working QRP ( limiting the power output ). Most radios those days are small, light, and do not draw much while set on receive mode. Thanks for the video and have a great weekend.

Thanks for a another nice video, Peter. I would go for one of these, but it doesn't support VOX on the IC-705 😞

Good video as usual…. Talking across the Mic. For any transceiver is recommended.😏… always makes my CW sound great 😂

You cannot use VOX with this headset as the mic is not live on receive. Sorry. Peter

Like would it be too much to ask if the stock ic-705 mic be compatible with the HT ID-52A.... alas I digress. Thanks again and 73

I just got one of these headsets I can't get to work on VOX. Bummer I needed this headset to work with VOX to be a heads free operation. VOX works gears with stock mic.

Heads free operation is tough, regardless of gear.

I'm hoping to use its bluetooth for a headset so that i don't inadvertently walk off wearing something cabled to the set that will pull it off the table

Get the 2 ear piece that way you would have both choices. Just move one off an ear. Buying one ear you are stuck. You have no option.
