I am one of those old school cat fishermen who has NEVER used a lure for catfish! I might be missing something, but I don't loose lures on catfish either! 🤣 Anyhow...what a adventure you took us on! I kinda S-L-O-W D-O-W-N on fishing in the winter time because I don't like the 🥶! In saying that I will be targeting strippers/whippers January until the spring. So do make exceptions sometimes.

So another reason for just a Jighead other than single hooks hold better they are not dangerous when grabbing a fish (RIP Josh's thumb) not to mention a jighead with a good hook is a buck and those lipless baits are 10+ a Catfish is eating the meat not the lure unless of course you are casting for Flattys. A Carolina rig with a 4/0 hook and a 1 oz sinker will produce the same.

Went out and caught my first bass through the ice plus some small kitties. Only our groups 3rd time out on hard water ever.

I've never caught channel cats through the ice. Only bulkheads. Deffinately gonna try a few new spots on the Mississippi River and give it a try. Bought some white/clear 8# fireside specifically for it. You need to start bringing a first aid kit when you're ice fishing. Lol
