When our ice maker stopped working we weren't sure why. Then we realized it wasn't producing any water to the tray, but the fingers still turned. At first i was sure it was a bad solenoid. But after checking that with a volt meter i determined the solenoid was good. I even connected the wire that goes to the front water dispenser and got water to pour into the ice tray. So the solenoid was good, it just wasn't getting any power/signal sent to it.
Then i found out that inside the ice maker there is a micro switch that send the signal to the solenoid, so i thought that might be bad. But after checking that with a volt meter, i determined that it was also still good. Then i realized that there is a tension screw that can be adjusted. And it turned out that the switch was too tight to the rotating cam and it was not sending power to the solenoid. Once the screw was loosened the switch became activated and water poured in. It was a simple fix that took 10 seconds, but diagnosing the problem took an hour and a half. Luckily though i didn't just buy parts and hope it fixed the problem.
The key is to narrow down the possible problems and eliminate the things that are still good. The solenoid was good, the switch was good, but it wasn't sending power, so it just needed an adjustment.

Any chance you know where to get the actual sprocket?

@@pizzapizza2424 one guy said you cant just buy the sprocket so not they make you buy the complete icemaker, however these ice makers are in most frigs and are really common ! If you are like myself and like to beat them at there own game , look on craigslist for one someone is giving away and just ask them if you can have the ice maker out of it . I just replaced the one in my frigidaire with one out of whirlpool that I am getting rid of! It fit right in no problem.
Dave, you did an excellent job of the steps to troubleshoot an icemaker. Thank you for taking the time to create and make the video.
I want to praise you for 2 things... 1) you are very patient and thorough person 2) you're a mechanical genius. I'm only a bit above average on each of these fronts, and without people like you I would never be able to fix all the myriad things that have gone wrong in my house. Thank you very much for making this video. Also 3) you're really good at explaining things!

Thanks for the detailed video - all I needed to do was loosen the screw - so quick and simple for me because you took all the time to diagnose it and share it with us! Much appreciated! :)
Thank you for creating an informative video and giving me the confidence to try to fix this ice maker instead of just replacing it. I learned a lot and now can prevent water from flowing everywhere, too.
Dude...you rock! Best video I’ve found on this issue by far! Almost ordered a new water valve myself
Thank you so much Dave! Your instructions were so easy to follow and this morning I woke up and had ICE!!!!
This was awsome. I thought I would need to just buy a new fridge, but this fixed the ice maker. I would have never thought a little screw could be the answer I was looking for. Thank you!
This video is refreshing. Amidst all the crap out there, your brevity and insights are so helpful! Thank you.
My ice maker stopped producing on the hottest day on record for this time of year. Followed your video and I fixed it. this video was a godsend. Thank you
Finally! Every other video I looked at didn't actually go into full diagnostics of the whole system. Thanks for posting this.
THANK YOU!! We have watched nearly every video on youtube to figure out why our Kenmore side by side ice maker died but it was still giving ice cold water. We're going to try these steps this weekend. I'll update after we try everything. Again, thank you for the time & effort you put into this video! God bless you & your family!
Must say out of all that I researched this gave the best step process for the ice maker. I had been working with a different problem trying to get it colder for our long term storage and had a great result until the ice maker just stopped. Your video let me know that the gear system was tied to the water and as soon as I pulled that front off I saw a broken gear. Thanks a whole lot.
Thanks Dave! Your video was a huge help! Great information and straight to the point!
one of the best videos I've seen on diagnoses of problems in general. Better than the factory/parts house videos. Great Job!
Thanks for the step by step diagnostic. Enjoyed the learning, the intelligent process, and better yet - my Frigidaire ice maker is now working again. Smart.

Ihave the same problem John....Ice maker not working what did you do to yours? The screw adjustment?
Dude! You rock. Now I can do some more testing to find out my problem with my ice maker. Switched the plugs. No water and no ice,but didn't check to see if water came in while depressing the water paddle.
Thank you Dave for your time and all the information. I guess the thumbs down are from people that are envious of your skills and are not self-driven.
Saved me 100.00 or more with this video! I adjusted the water adjustment screw and it fixed my issue! Thanks so much!
Interesting find......I learned recently that this is the adjustment for cube size. My cubes got too big to melt completely when being ejected, so a chunk would occasionally jam the fingers. It was getting tough to un-jam so I finally researched and found this adjustment. Adjusted for smaller cubes and all is well now. Great video, with very helpful troubleshooting and explanations.
Literally just solved my issue with my ice maker! You are the best!
This is a great tutorial ... rather than checking all the electrical switching, I started with the easiest or simplest "fix". I adjusted the + / - screw and immediately got water, problem solved. Thank you!
Thank you for your thorough video! I loosened the screw and then when the wheels started rolling in sync, the water started rushing out a few seconds later.
Great one Dave! You really had to delve into the inner workings. I just replaced all my micro switches on my microwave since they typically go out every few years. Did not realize these were in my icemaker as well!! Technician coming to your house would have told you you need the entire new ice maker assembly. Great job
Right on brother! The adjustment screw inside the ice making unit connected to the switch, was too tight (towards the - side). I loosened that screw (towards the + side) and sure enough, the water started flowing. So i pushed it back just enough to turn the switch off. Big thumbs up. My only regret is that i bought the water pump/solenoid unit before i saw your video.
Great job, Dave. Thanks!
Absolutely killer video. You did a great job explaining everything. Thanks for your time.
Dave! Thank you so much for this great video. Helped me troubleshoot so easily!
Thanks! I’m ready to dig in to check mine.
I've got ice again & it didn't cost a dime!! Thank you!!!
Dave, you explained it very well. Thanks
Already replaced valve and still no water in ice maker when I found your video. Quarter turn on the screw cycled and bam there is water! Great explanations on troubleshooting. Thank you!
Great detailed troubleshooting! Thanks!
best video on this no water subject. thanks. I checked all the things you said. took apart unit in freezer checked switches. Replaced valve as i knew i was supposed to test first but forgot cause I was waiting 2 daylate amazon prime. Nothing worked. It was frozen fill tube that pops out the back. simple removal of this is not in any video until the 10th one i watched. you don't even disconnect the water supply, use it to turn and pull out the tube. filled with ice. dont even open the fridge for this. CHECK THIS FIRST!
Fixed my fridge with your help! Thank you.
This is exactly the video I was trying to find before ordering a new water valve and ice maker. I replaced both and still had issues. I knew something changed because after I adjusted the screw, water flooded out. Then I was confused and did more searching before I found this. Doh! Well at least I have a brand new ice maker and valve, so they may outlast the fridge. Great video!
Good diagnostic, my guy!
I did exactly what you said in this video and I got it to work. It was the switch behind the gears. Great video. Thank you.
Awesome work buddy! Never would have guessed. I'll be hitting this tomorrow! Fantastic video.
Dude great job. So helpful. Conversational but with specific details and photos/videos
Thank you for letting me know that they are switches inside the ice maker. Hopefully one of these switches is bad that's preventing water from not going inside. Thank you for the excellent video!!!
Thank You, Dave!! I will need a solenoid for my Frigidaire. I’ll get from your link below to support your awesome content. Thank You so much, Brother🙏🏼
I did just check out your video. Other videos talk about the water valve only. Your video went more in-depth talking about the micro switches and other accessories. I now have a clearer understanding of what my issue May be. Thank you for the video.
Thank you so very much Dave. Your explanation is very detailed and short for inpatient ppl like me. I learned lots from you in this video. May God continue to bless you and gives you the energy to produce more videos to help us out and save us some $$. 🎉
Love people helping people! I hope mine is the adjustment screw too
Great Video, ever since someone pulled the fridge out from the wall and pulled the water connection from the fridge the ice maker stopped working. So i tested the lines to make sure they're not clogged or frozen water inside, then tried taking water, but the water came out extremely slow, was told the filter wasn't changed in 2 years. so going to start with that and have them order a new filter, which i hope will allow for the water to come out faster then play around with the switches and see if any of the solenoids are dead and the 3 prong switch. Thanks for the very informative video.
Brother, you are a GOOD teacher! Thanks!!
Great video. Just took my ice maker apart, checked all switches, and bang it started working again - which is meh, but better than a service call. Thanks
Great Video! Very clear and to the point! TY!!
Great troubleshooting, great video! You talk to us like we have half a brain, and do good analysis. I've got a French door Frigidaire Gallery (FGUN2642LF0) with ice maker in bottom drawer. Purchased it new in summer of 2013. It stopped making any ice about a week ago, and today the heat wave broke enough, for me to decide to get to work on it. I first went for the input valve solenoid like you did. Continuity on the coils and input water-flow tested good. I also saw water in both tubes to and from the water filter, and the one to the ice maker. I didn't think of testing for input signal to the solenoid, but will try that next if necessary. I lifted both bins out of the bottom drawer to access the ice maker (awkward at my age), and removed the ice maker mechanism from the side wall to be able to examine it. All looked good, except there was no water in the trays. My present diagnosis is a clogged water filter. I don't have a water dispenser, so the filter only feeds the ice maker. I changed it once after about 3 years. and haven't changed it again. We have good town water here, and we don't make that much ice. The ice transparency has stayed fairly good, so I haven't changed filter again. I'm hoping it's just a clogged filter . . . I'll know tomorrow when the new one arrives. If it isn't a bad filter, I'm going right to the analysis process you used here. I saw that spring-tension screw for the first time today when I pried off the front cover plate, and wondered what it did. Now I know and will look into that if the filter doesn't fix it. You're a bright young fellow. Good luck in your life, and thanks again for your great analysis and video.
Dave, awesome video (very clear). Thanks! Just racked my brain fixing a whirlpool In-Door icemaker. The wiring harness at the bottom of the freezer door was damaged. The icemaker sends the Thermostat information to the main control board. The main control board then turns on the relay that turns on the solenoid that controls the water to the icemaker. Of course, I misdiagnosed the problem as a faulty control board...
Great job man! And thank you.
Thank you for being so thorough with your explanation. I watched the whole thing without speeding you up because you were concise in your explanation. I KNOW the ice maker is getting power but it's still not running the water. I'm going to try the last bit 1st to see if that works. Wish me luck!
Excellent video. Gave me confidence in tinkering!
Great video, very easy to follow. I went through every step, good solenoid continuity, switching the power sends water to ice maker , micro switch has good continuity, adjusted screw. NO WATER

One other thing i forgot to add was that the water can freeze in the tube from the back of the refrigerator to the trays. But if you switched the solenoid wires and water comes out, then it isn't a blocked tube. So i'm not sure.
Thank you so much for this video. This saved me a ton of time and money.
Omg. You’re the smartest!! The smaller gear was turning, but the larger gear shift had two pieces where the indents were worn down. Hopefully I just need a new larger gear.
Thank you so much dude. I was gonna jump right to replacing the ice maker. Luckily I'm as cheap with other people's money as I am with my own. I'm sure this customer will be extremely happy. I hope they have the same issue!!!;
Dude, this was great! Thanks!
i really liked the way you went about fixing that. very well done
thank you. you did a great job explaining. the fix for each one
Exactly the video I was looking for. Thanks for breaking down the troubleshooting sequence and explaining what each part does. Best video I've seen on this topic. Thanks!

Turned out to be a frozen water tube, but it's working fine now. Thanks again!
Thanks , I have a client were she's not getting water to ice maker. I just replaced the filter, Now i'll check what you said. Thanks again
That was my problem also. The solinoid had below ohm reading on 2 of 3 solinoids so I replaced it but still didn't work so I took the cover off and adjusted the screw out then put it back and engaged the gears by hand and it started spinning and filled the ice tray. I was about to buy a new ice maker. Thanks for the video. Frigidaire bhfs2611lmo side by side.
Thanks. Saved me a bunch of time.
Great video dude! please keep making more.
Thanks for taking the time to share knowledge, very informative
Just what I needed, thanks dude!
Wow what a guy, i already went through 2 water inlet valves thinking that was the problem, spent hours defrosting thinking there was an ice blockage, was just about to order a whole new ice maker but thought id see if there were any videos. Mine had same problem. FIXED🤝
Excellent troubleshooting. Very helpful.
Very smart trouble-shooting; the last discovery the result of persistence, the kind that doesn't give up, the kind that seperates you from most of us amateurs.
Excellent video. Thanks!
Gosh your a good instructor. thanks
Dave, this video is very informative on the troubleshooting steps. If I have not seen your video, I too was about to purchase the same two items water value inlet or the ice maker. After trying to force the big white gear thing to rotate, it started to work again. thank you.

excellent job, thank you!!!!
Amazingly detailed video I appreciate the hell out of that
Dave as attested in many comments, you have excellent troubleshooting skills.
solid vid my friend. thank you!
Nice systematic approach. My GE monogram has access to that screw from the front panel. I recently adjusted it to reduce the size of the cube so they wouldn’t get stuck in the chute. Might be good to start there and then hit the more complicated things like pulling the icemaker out and or the refrigerator out to test the solenoids.
Great diagnosis!
Had the exact same problem - Thank you - I'd buy you a beer if I could... I was pulling my hair out! Thanks again... Jon
Very good troubleshooting procedure. I did not consider everything you did. Thank you.
Excellent, thanks for posting
Excellent video! I’m only getting 9 volts AC to my solenoids. I do get water out of the front water dispenser...Testing ice maker itself next...
Great informative video! Thank you. .One more thing I'd like to add is @3:00 where you are removing the icemaker itself, mine had an additional screw below the unit. itself. The top screws cam be just loosened but the bottom one must be completely removed. Of course you can't actually SEE any of them without a mirror. Good luck and thanks again!
Years now im trying to get this ice maker working, it was only making small ice cubs , so i knew it was a water problem , so i chance the filter , but the ice strange got smaller , now as you showed me were , to adjust for the water , i want state there , so now it just to wait and see. by the way I want to 5 videos , and to me they Didi nothing , not even to explain , and see I'm an It guy , I needed more which you give me ,, Thanks bro .Good work.. From the Caribbean .
Really good info my mom is having same problem with her refrigerator now I know how to diagnose it thanks
