I have been working on my Whirlpool model GX5FHDXVY03 that is having issues with not making ice. With you providing the readings that I should see with my multimeter, this was an easy troubleshooting session. The culprit was the water solenoid that was showing a value of "0". Ordered my part and we will have ice very soon! Thank you for the awesome video!

I have a Hisense French door but the ice maker is identical to the one you're showing . I've had it for 2 yrs and a hard piece of ice knocked the part that flips the ice loose then the wires looked as if they got cut . For some reason , my entire frig seemed to shut down after this happened but everyone doesn't think this has anything to do with the frig stopping but this is the only thing that happened before it stopped. I actually tried to put the wires back together and noticed the frig staying on 45 seconds b4 it goes back out . I decided to replace the ice maker and hope it works . Because non of the videos I've seen has stated this could happen , I've just been guessing . Hopefully the replacement works . Thanks for the video !

This was a tremendous help! My Kenmore IM was still working but not producing as it should. Cubes were smaller, also. First step was clean the coils, and they were completely clogged. After a couple of days the IM close to normal, but still not producing as before. Just checked it out with multimeter and all appears OK.

( This work on our Kenmore Elite LG has been the THIRD service call and the machine is NOT EVEN 5 years old yet! is this what we call a LEMON?)

What ohm level should you set if you have to do that manually?

Our refrigerator's condenser coils were super dirty, so our ice maker didn't work. Well we cleaned it up, and now our ice maker works.

My Motor OHMS test was 78 Ohms. Is that a bad test and is the motor need to be rplaced?

External water valve solenoid I’m reading 1 ohm instead of 270. I checked the continuity on the solenoid for the ice hose in the back and it was good. Where is the external water valve solenoid at? I’m not sure what part it is

Help! When I tested L and M for the motor I got 74.8 ohms (MM set at 200 which is lowest ohm setting) you said should be 4,400 - 8,800...when I tested the external water solenoid I got no change on MM. Got one on order.....

This one driving me crazy if anyone has suggestions. My Frigidaire side by side is about 8 years old. The ice maker replaced about 6 months ago. We noticed some wet ice and frozen clumps in bucket then water leaking out of front. I determined that the ice maker was calling for water and it opened up the valve and seemed to fill the tray normally and with no leak. However, it called for water again every 3-5 minutes until the corner of the tray would overflow. The valve seems to be coming on and shutting off properly it is just happening every few minutes instead of waiting the proper cycle time. Is it the ice maker, the inlet valve or something else?

I got stuck at 2:53 "First remove the cover" In the video it's just sitting loosely on. In my freezier, it's impossible to pry off. Do I have remove the icemaker first just to get the cover off? And if so, then I could use a bit more guidance on disconnecting the electrical connection. I'm not seeing anything to pry up to release the connection.

Step 1. Unplug refrigerator. Step 2. Use control panel on refrigerator to lower temperature for maximum ice prodction.

Why would a solenoid that tests good not open to send water to the ice maker? Good pressure new filter. Water dispenser works fine.

As long as it is below 10°F, the icemaker should make ice. However, the speed will not change. On average, most icemakers make around 10 cubes every hour.

Hi. I have a similar fridge. It makes ice. But is like melted. Like water had been poured over all the ice. Freezer is working fine and freezing the food. And the ice maker is brand new. What could be causing this??

The heater coil has to loosen the ice up so the arm can push it out from the tray. If its overly thin/melted ice then maybe the freezer is not set cold enough.

There is a part on top o f the refrigerator with is a tube that provides de water to the ice maker. That piece suddenly start throwing water up to the ceiling and get water in that little compartment and water does not get to the icemaker. What is wrong.? That.little square pice.on top of the refrigerator?

nice video, but it doesn't show my kenmore side by side. the ice maker is in the top of the frezzer. the ice despensor is on the door with a lift out bin. how do I fix this.

Last ohm meter test about blew up my ohm meter. Maybe they meant to unplug the refrigerator before testing!

Unless you are specifically testing for voltage it is always recommended to unplug the unit during testing.

Here's my problem, I changed out the check valve, mine is inside behind the panel. I'm getting water to the water dispenser but none to the ice maker, so should I now change the ice maker?

@@shaunseagrave729 Same, I replaced the Water inlet valve and it did not fix the problem. Mechanics of cycle seems to work fine, it is just not pulling in water. Did you solve your issue?

I have a whirlpool side by side I have replaced the ice maker waited 24 hrs to make ice I got a half. And then it stopped no more ice. The temperature it’s at 15 and humidity is at 16 . No ice in 2 weeks. What should do next?

I have a Kenmore elite refrigerator which is only 2 years old..water flow is ok..still coming out from the frig. But replaced the filter anyway...I pressed on the test hole in ice maker assembly and it seems like it’s rotating and has water coming in also. But I replaced it anymore since it’s easy to get to. I checked the back of the frig, everything is clean...fan still running fine. But I clean it anyway...now ice maker still not making ice..I don’t know what else to check..any idea? Thanks.

Don’t blow up your ice maker like I did. I have the first type he showed how to test. The numbers looked good on the multimeters so I pulled off the white gear thing that says don’t adjust. One of the contacts was black and dirty. I cleaned the gear part with electronics cleaner and a brass brush. Then, for good measure, I sprayed electronics cleaner into the ice maker contacts. Nothing happened until I scrubbed it with a brass brush and BOOM. Instant fire. I blew on it and it went out. Reinstalled the gear and it started turning immediately. Seems to work like new!
