There was a winery in my home town that first got their 5100 in about 1976, I learnt to program on it as a 13 year old. It was an amazing experience back then. They had the 5100 and a line printer and that formed their accounting system. It was HUGELY expensive even back then.

This is not the first PC, the first personal computer was the Olivetti Programma 101, which predated this by around 10 years (but the form factor is quite similar).

The form factor of the Programma is very similar. However, when it gets down to use, it's more of a calculator than a general purpose device. It is still a beautiful machine though.

APL! Arrgh! I learned to program with APL. No commands, just Greek looking symbols that did stuff. It was invented by an IBM researcher so they thought it was the future. It set back Big Blue by letting other mainframe manufacturers sell systems that didn't need a special keyboard with Greek symbols on every key.
