Another individual or two cause a incident that effects tens of thousands. Stupid irresponsible driving that everybody pays the price for one way or another

Damn. The people are out of control. Vehicles were very safe.

NO job is worth losing your life for. You’re supposed to spend your entire life working there every day instead.

I live in Oceanside, so I know this area well. A fatal accident at that point is strange, even though nighttime speeds in excess of 80 MPH are common at this point. The weather was fine last night. I wonder if a drowsy driver was surprised by a truck entering the highway at Las Pulgas? Truckers often use the Las Pulgas entrance ramp to take nighttime breaks

Las Pulgas is way before oceanside. That's no man's land there. I should be able to pull these cars right off the road and let traffic go through.

That stretch between san clemente and oceanside is always bad even on a good day. I ve seen many accidents and near accidents there. 60 years overdue to build a frontage road to divert traffic

Someone in person just told me 3 motorcycles were the cause but I'm here to do more research so idek if that's what happened

I hate to second guess the victims but those 4 motorcyclists were surely going well over 90mph to not avoid this. At that time of night traffic is so light you have plenty of room in front of you. Its a long ride through a boring area, tempting to go 100 and make time.

I arrived there on my motorcycle at 5 AM. Had to return North from Las Pulgas and got South via Ortega Highway. For having happened 2 hours before the backup was surprisingly short.

Accidents like that only happen at very high speeds. All those CHP wandering around looking busy after the accident. How come there is no speed enforcement on these highways? Did Gavin de-criminalize speeding too?

One of the big problems with a situation like that for commuters is that, the nearest possible alternate is all the way back in Tustin, some 40 miles north of where this incident happened, where drivers can get on CA-55 to access CA-91, from where they can eventually get onto I-15, the only other north/south freeway that gets people in and out of the San Diego area. Had something like this happened on SB I-15, in say, Rainbow or Temecula, it would be an even worse situation, because the nearest alternate route would be back in Corona, where travelers can get on CA-91 to get to CA-55, and then to I-5.

Ortega Hwy is much closer. That's what I took this morning when I got stopped by this accident, about 45 mins later I was on the I15. Not a lot of people took that alternate route surprisingly

@@ceesklumper It is much closer, but it's not always a reliable alternate because of the terrain it passes, and part of it is often shut down in the mountains near the Orange/Riverside county line. I probably should have rephrased the wording in my post, but I think 55-91, even though it's much farther away on both ends, is a much more reliable route than 74, as is 133-241 to get to 91, though those are both tolled.

A little human history. Every area in the country has at least one, if not more, highways called "slaughter" or "death" alley. Example: in San Jose in the 60s and 70s it was both hwy 17 to santa cruz and the 101 south of the valley. Hwy 67 between lakeside and ramona is particularly accident prone.
