If a man ever hits you, leave. He WILL do it again. If a man ever cheats on you, leave. He WILL do it again. If a man lies to you, leave. He WILL do it again. Something my father said to me on my 13th birthday.

My ex fiancé cheated on me and I found out and immediately called my father. He told me to tell him a new apartment complex he would pay the first rent and I would love there and he would be there first thing in the morning. He flies oit 9 hours to move me: the funniest thing I think I’ve ever heard ; he said he wanted my lingerie: my dad was like “oh you think it would look good on you?l. And dried eight up

I grew up hearing my mother expressing how a woman should not accept or tolerate domestic violence so when I got married & had two children all was well..One day I had heard my husband yelling at my Mom & asked him not to disrespect my Mom. He then took off his belt saying what he intended to do to me.. Trust me I contacted an Attorney the very next day & filed for divorce. I never looked back. That was 35 years ago!

That's how it's gotta go. Because once you start allowing it it gets worse and worse. People say "why don't they just leave." Sometimes people are financially dependent etc so they can't. But a lot of times it's bc they have been being a used so badly for so long they fear retaliation because it's happened before. It's such a sick cycle. Good for you to have the courage and resources to do that for you and your family. No one deserves that

I'm so sorry for what you have been through. I am a DV survivor. My ex threw me out of a moving truck head first. All the bones in my face were broken, my jaw was wired shut for a year; had 3 operations on it. Had a closed head injury, was on life support, was in a coma for a month. Sandra, I am not comparing what happened to me to the horror you endured. Just know your not alone. Unfortunately, it happens way to often. I was fortunate in the fact that the hospital I was taken to was amazing hospital, Vanderbilt was an A1 trauma center, that saved my life. And beyond that, it was just a plain miracle. My head was bigger than my shoulders, and I didn't look human. Had lost skin to the bone. And I have almost no scars. I have very few deficits. I do live with pain, and some memory issues due to the head injury. But I did recover, and even became a DV counselor, public speaking and did fund raising for years. I am retired now. I wish you all the best. I know how difficult it is to share something so painful. Thank you for your strength. May you be blessed with all good and health and happiness. A fellow warrior, you are a warrior, not a survivor!!!!

I lived alone with my kids for years and it was peaceful after growing up with my crazy parents and then having 2 kids with an alcoholic man who was always getting in shit..I left when the kids were babies and never looked back.. until last year, me and my kids, now teenagers, got evicted and became homeless due to a two bedroom apartment now costing upwards of $1700 a month plus utilities, I knew I could no longer afford to be a single mom..no one wanted to rent a 1 bedroom or bachelor to three of us, we were screwed! Until their dad, who I’ve been separated from 14 years, offered to give up his place and split a place with us.. it was the only option.. he has a solid job and has been seeming to have calmed down a lot since we were together last.. so we found a 3 bedroom for $ 1900 and the kids and him get rooms and I take the living room.. as soon as I moved in with him, I had been on social assistance since my kids were born and working sporadically because of a health issue, they cut me off! I lost my ability to lay my part of the rent and my prescription coverage over night! So now I’m living with a man who I left because of domestic violence reasons, and I can’t pitch my part of the rent! He’s been stuck covering it and I know he’s Gina kick us out when the lease is up.. he barley talks to me and I really am worried for my safety sometimes.. I sleep on the couch and last week when I got up I found a giant knife on the chair behind my couch , I wanted to ask the kids if any of them left it there? Because he gets up and leave for work at like 5 am and I’m passed out there, it just freaks me out he could do something to me while I sleep.. I wish the government knew what position they put women in this way.. I’ve never been married to this man and we’re not a couple now! It was an emergency to keep my kids off the street!

Sadly it's a common story. I know of other similar testimonials, particularly from Pakistan where it's common for a husband to mark their wives by burning them accross the face & upper body. This is a CONTROL measure. In order to prevent the wayward partner from seeking attention from other men. They want their partner to be submissive & obedient. There was even one case where a man strung up his wife by her feet. And proceeded to blind her, cut off her nose, lips & ears. It was the only case where a woman successfully sued her husband for battery. 😢

There are 3 early signs of potential future violence: 1. a man that gets very angry at anything; that has an "explosive" mood, 2. a mini violence before the actual violence (a miniature push on your arms, for example), 3. a toxic behavior trying to put down the woman with verbal abuse first. Twice in my life I saw women near man like that and physical violence came next. Before I saw this happen, I had read these 3 signs in an interview with a psychologist in a magazine. If anyone knows any other sign, please write it here so more women can read about it. All the characteristics of a psychopathic personality applies here.

My mom wasn’t an addict but my dad was - but I witnessed horrific abuse against my mom from my dad and at times my dad beat myself and my siblings as well. I was always close to my mom but did harbor some resentment . Why did she not get us out of the situation so we didn’t have to grow up that way etc …. I educated myself as an adult on DV and other psychological aspects and it helped me understand tremendously. My mom and I had a talk a few years ago and it was the first time she said “ I should’ve never had you kids around that .” I had already forgiven her and let it go and she knows that. I think she’s a hero just like you are ❤

Well I think the drugs/alcohol made her not feel the pain so she was able to go home & sleep where other ppl would feel it immediately & would run to get medical help. It had a chance to get much worse during all that time. The rest of the damage seemed to happen from the lousy hospital that sent her home like that with a medicine she had an allergic reaction to. It sounded like parts of her face must have had long time periods with blood flow cut off to them so they literally died!! That had to have been why they had to cut sections off. I don’t think the drugs/alcohol had anything to do with the actual original injury but they kept her from running to a hospital. So sad 😞

Its so horrific what happened to this woman. Her husband is evil of course, that doesn't even need to be said, but what just blows my mind is the atrocious behavior of the hospital, medical teams. The dismissal of her condition and casually condeming her to death is inhuman. My mother is a retired doctor and she has told me similar (thankfully rare) stories of such lack of empathy to patients, but they never cease to horrorify me.

I cried hearing this story because I too survived domestic violence. Mine started from age 17-28. I am blessed I did not have physical scars or get into drug abuse like my abuser. I do have pain from being his daily punching bag and surviving what I believe were concussions from blows to the back of my head but I am alive! The trauma that still exists is in my mind because it’s very hard to be unaffected by someone constantly telling you no one loves you and you are a waste of air. I would say parents make sure you spend lots of time with your kids & show them how valuable they are! I put my whole life on hold to stay at home with mine. My Mother was always gone working, my Dad left us when we were little. Parents if your child is in an abusive relationship KEEP SHOWING UP, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR CHILD SAYS! They need you! Don’t ever walk away saying “ they continue to put themselves in that situation “. It’s very hard to leave abusers , not only are the women terrified ( as they should be), many times they don’t have HELP, or the abusers come begging for them how they CANT LIVE WITHOUT THEIR VICTIMS. If your abuser is the ONLY ONE giving this message of they need you…. so easy to believe it’s love. Maybe they will change. A big misconception about abusive relationships is that you don’t have great times with your abuser. It’s those great even romantic times that push you to keep enduring the bad times. Sandra thank you for your courage and honesty telling your story! I’m so glad your alive & healthy for your children & you learned that you have to face that trauma head on. There is no option not to feel it. This is why I am going to school for psychology to help victims of violence, like my former self. It is an epidemic and no one does anything. Everyday on the news you hear murder suicides of families because of abusers. These cowards think of only themselves. Mine was delusional. There is serious mental illness behind it, I’m sure of that. God bless the survivors and protect our daughters Lord. Heal our minds & spirits from all the trauma. 🙏🙏🙏❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Clearly you must be very young. The laws say one thing but they make sure specifically ro protect male abusers and make sure nothing fits those definitions and they will literally bypass everything into a nothing category. But then say he would be in trouble if that happend... The old saying she asked for it rages strong in America. The male that was pushed to be abusive is the real victim in the states. Rarely does anything occur in most places when thing like this occur. It's a phasade so men can self worship they have rules and laws so it all must be lies and claim everything is so great for women here and they are just the problem.

Pointing that out is not petty. It is absolutely necessary that ignorant people be made aware of their ignorance and that people screaming online be informed of just how obnoxious their typing is. You're the problem with the world today, way too lenient and laxadaisical. Eventually you will learn that if you give people an inch, then will take a mile. Every single time. My husband had been on a drunk for a few days and I felt sorry for him. So I was trying to feed him. ALL of a sudden, he reached out and hit me! POW! My glasses broke and because I thought I had a concussion, I figured I needed to get to the hospital so I walked downtown to the police station where the blood was running down My face! I'm pretty sure I looked pretty gruesome when I came walking in their door! They put me in a cell until they could get the time to drive me to the hospital. Where a very nice doctor stitched me up. It's horrible living with a facial scar from domestic violence! So, I can relate to this woman's story greatly. BUT, you know what, this is my history. My abuser is dead today. The BEST revenge is surviving. I'm not perfect. BUT, I have out lived incest and domestic violence. Like a little bird, if a child grows up seeing this type of thing happening in their childhood, they will think it's normal. So, please protect your kids from this type of environment. It's terrible to have them molded into believing that violence is an acceptable way for adults to handle their interactions with each other. I'll wear this face until the day I die. BUT, I have finally learned to accept myself for who I am. Warmest regards from Greensboro, NC USA.

This lady is a survivor. Addiction is a disease and tough to get out of but she did it. She had a reason to self medicate- her life was messed up. Her face was never going to be right again and it is the first thing people see. But your exterior, is not the important part of a person. It is your heart and soul. We all turn into wrinkly old prunes, some more than others. But a good heart and soul lasts until Death. Be kind. If your words and action don’t improve the situation around you they should be kept to yourself. I’m glad she found the path to righteousness and family. So brave to tell her story. D. Violence is not love and everyone deserves love not pain. No one should be cheated on or lied too. This is not love. Thank you for sharing your story.

I was in 2 very abusive relationships and I praise you for having the courage to tell everyone your story in order to help another. You are such a strong, beautiful woman and you never deserved any of that. The one treasure you got out of that toxic man that you were with were your 2 absolutely beautiful children. The 3 of you are gorgeous (and handsome) beings! ❤

Sounds like she was also a victim of malpractice!! If that so-called doctor had given her the correct antibiotics, she'd still have a face!! I wish her the best, so sad. Women...DON'T PUT UP WITH THIS!!! PLEASE!!!
