Cindy speaking (Barry's wife)You may already know this but just incase you didn't. If you mound up the soil around your asparagus before the asparagus pops up you could have white asparagus. You can dig down a little and cut it. Once the asparagus breaks the soil and it gets some sun it will turn green. White asparagus is really tender. You can research it on internet. Steamed asparagus on toast with a slice of cheese and ham, broil till cheese melts and pour hollandaise sauce over it. Enjoy. Thank you for all the wonderful videos. Have a great weekend. From PEI

@@tammyohlsson7966 from my understanding, KZread does not give ad revenue for skipped ads. Every time you skip an ad, they aren’t paid for it. If you watch 30 seconds of an ad, they will pay the KZread channel for that view. Different ads are paid in different amounts. Some are less some are more. The least we can all do is just sit through the 30 second ads for Jess and her family. It costs us nothing but 30 seconds of our time. You’ve opened and softened my heart in so many ways, and the education you give is invaluable. When I first started gardening (I knew nothing)my sister gave me some asparagus crowns. We prepped a bed in a special spot and planted. My sister told me not to pick any that year so we didn’t. Later in the summer she asked me how the asparagus was doing, I said great , but I didn’t know asparagus had purple flowers. She laughed and said “that’s where my balloon flower went”, we had a good laugh.

With all of the “to go” food containers I have collected over the past year because of COVID-19, I have been using them to sit my seedling pots in for bottom watering. Works well for my small garden space. Some of those containers are really sturdy and the cover works for the germination stage!

I have had asparagus for 20 years. We took a few spears the second year. By the third year we harvested more but still lightly. From then on we harvest from the first sprouts through several weeks. Then we let several mature but still harvest a few here and there even to the fall. The mature ferns are beautiful and it is amazing how they sweep water from the air during dryer periods.

We are in year 3, last year we harvested 1/2 of the plants for one week. This year we will harvest as much as we can for 2 weeks and increase a week per year until you get to 6 weeks. As long as they are bigger than a pencil. Here in Iowa it grows wild. It says “Spring has sprung” Fresh asparagus is the best! 💚

Gotta love a man that cooks, and does dishes; then goes out and builds something. Jeremiah, rocks! Re asparagus: IMHO there's nothing like garden fresh. Used to pick it wild every spring, in Michigan. Second year, pick no more than 20%. Now that's, self-discipline.

We are blessed by an asparagus patch that my husbands grandma planted when this was their home. It’s small for our family of 8. But the kids will eat it straight out of the ground

I got my Dr Wyche’s and “Real food comes dirty” bookbag on the same day. I’m getting those seeds in dirt today, I know I’m a little late, but I’m in Pennsylvania so it will be a minute before it’s warm enough to go in the ground. It was a very R&R kinda day. Happy to get such frequent posts. If nothing else, it helps keep me motivated when garden time seem so far off. Ty

Fresh asparagus is absolutely remarkable. You can eat what you have as long as they are as thick as a pencil and being careful to not eat too many. Leave at least 2/3rds. Once it is established in your new home you'll be able to harvest so much you will have to preserve some

We were super pumped to plant asparagus crowns when we first moved to our home (may have planted too many for a couple... is that possible?!). We waited 3 years to harvest, and we have a prolific crop that we happily share with our community! Thanks for all that you share with us here! Appreciated.
