I went to space and discovered an enormous lie | Ron Garan

What astronaut Ron Garan saw in space changed his life forever - here’s what it taught him.

A curious phenomenon often occurs when astronauts travel to space and look out on our planet for the first time: They see how interconnected and fragile life on Earth is, and they feel a sudden responsibility to protect it.
Astronaut @RonGaran experienced this so-called “overview effect” when he first saw Earth from space. When he looked out on the planet, he saw an iridescent biosphere teeming with life, all protected by a remarkably thin atmosphere.
What he did not see was the thing that society often gives top priority: the economy. For Garan, seeing Earth from space revealed problems like global warming, deforestation, and biodiversity loss are not disconnected. They are the symptoms of an underlying flaw in how we perceive ourselves as humans: We fail to realize that we are a planetary species.

About Ron Garan:
Former NASA astronaut, serial entrepreneur, humanitarian, and highly decorated combat fighter Ron Garan racked up 178 days in space and more than 71 million miles in 2,842 orbits between tours on the US Space Shuttle, Russian Soyuz spacecraft, and the International Space Station. During his time in space, Garan conducted four spacewalks in support of ISS construction and maintenance. Prior to those space journeys, he lived and conducted research on the bottom of the ocean in the world’s only undersea research lab, Aquarius.
Before reaching the summit of his career, Garan, a former test pilot and graduate of the US Naval Test Pilot School, taught hundreds of elite fighter pilots how to "up their game" as a flight instructor at the prestigious USAF Fighter Weapons School, the Air Force version of TOP GUN. He is the author of the critically acclaimed books: The Orbital Perspective, Floating in Darkness: A Journey of Evolution, and the children’s book, Railroad to the Moon. Garan is celebrated not just for his research in space but also for his humanitarian contribution to life on Earth.

As we choke ourselves with Neanderthal technology, using solar panels and windmills, we’re going to ignore Nicola Tesla, the founding father of modern inventions and radiant energy! A clean 100% renewable energy that’s given off by the Earth, and no bureaucrat or media will ever talk about! Because you cannot control the people like that!!! Like Westinghouse said if we can’t put a meter on it, why would we want it? 97% the people can agree on something and it will never come to be! 4% of industry agrees on something, and it will become law! On both sides of the aisle!!! we are nothing more than Neanderthal sheep worshiping our idiot box liberal Nazi gods tell us, and we are no smarter than what we are told to be!!

. . Let's not eliminate CO2 -- as if it were possible -- as CO2 remains as the only means by which we and all of life on the planet are able to feed through the process of photosynthesis to convert the sun's energy. Funding and career building requirements should not take precedence over real evidence and true threats that we face -- such as geoengineering practices for example that toxify the atmosphere and especially the soil over time to reduce the planet's ability to support life, as well as to create regional extremes of temperature and drought that are then attributed incorrectly to global warming, something that is not taking place -- versus efforts to create this impression as well as other crises if we give in and allow hysteria to rule us in the worst possible way. The individual perspective is the focus of power by which no person can be set against another with false and self-serving interpretations from another outside of ourselves.

If you use international scale economy is top priority, if you take planetary scale, environment is top priority, if you use universe then you realize that nothing we can conceptualize has any meaning on that scale. You can move down on that scale and realize how many things you worry about daily are insignificant in the long run.

Literally teared up. I see our planet as a whole, one giant living organism. What saddens me and tears me apart the way how we are treating this magnificent planet that we’re all living in, the way how we’re treating each-other and all other living beings in it too. People must and need to realize that we’re all one big family and living inside a home that we call Earth. There are no borders, there are no “us” or “them” there are no “me”, there’s only “us”, with the whole, and if our mindset wont change, we will end up miserably and end ourselves for good sooner or later. No one will or can save us, not god, nor any religions or all the money on Earth, except us. We desperately need to shift our way of thinking towards each-other and all life on Earth including towards our own planet that we call HOME. I beg you humans, please wake up, change starts within, not the other way around. Much love to you all.

We do it when we meet a person from our own neighbourhood in another part of our city. We do it when we meet a person from our city in another part of our country. We do it when we meet a person from our country in another part of the world. We go: "Hey, that's cool! I live there too!" It's time for us to move up another level. Planet Earth. That's cool! What we desperately need is to move into a unified global strategy that pushes back the excesses of economic prosperity so it affects everyone’s well being even if that being is less than the West has become enthralled with due to lifestyle advertising. It’s not the G7, EU, Russia, China, etc. It’s the planet. But first we must stop zealous and bigots from protesting for or against issues that are, view from above, trivial. That also includes saving the planet for Western economic expansionism, which is what Climate Change is, the West’s advertising hoarding promoting itself as being the best. Living in the UK in a large Victorian house with no cavity wall insulation I’ve discovered heat, given the expense of always on storage heaters, isn’t required constantly, turning to a single 5KW wood burning stove instead. Heat, like light, extends the working day. Heat grows a service economy. Physical exertion, in manual labour, creates body heat. The West has lost the plot over its comfortable environment which has generated soft specimens unfit for its climate. All our insulation has trapped the cold in, and the heat, so those in fuel poverty suffer from damp and mould in cold spells. In the UK you feel the damp cold not the warm cold. In Poland it’s said the cold is crisp and dry. Simply pulling back from the narrative on heat shows how we’re being sold a strategy that makes heat a necessity because the insulation policy creates sealed homes with no air flow to prevent moisture accumulating. An economic utility through a bad policy. We can save the planet but thinking is so polarised around economic expansionism that we are directed to problem creation not problem solving, which I think is the political aim, to perpetuate problems giving governments a constant purpose. Actually solve the planetary issues with sound policy and governments with the conflicts they thrive on won’t be needed. Hardly the outcome national leaders desire, or businessmen, but a sound global progressive strategy.

Sagan's observation just two years after the overview effect was coined as a phrase, written as The Pale Blue Dot stunned me. To this day, I think of it as the greatest observation of all time, to Wit: "There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."

Yeah good words to be sure. The problem we seam to be having is not easy to ferret out....at first. The general population of our world has been and is still being steered by forces beyond our control. Not talking about the cosmic conflict of good vs evil. Not in the sense some would presume I refer to. No, it's very much terrestrial, they look just like humans because that's what they are. Just because the majority of folks don't ascribe to the general theory of facts and truth doesn't mean a thing and certainly has no influence on what happens yesterday, today, or tomorrow. It's easier to lie to people than it is to convince them they have been lied to. There is so much sh¡t right in our faces every day, they don't even try to hide it anymore....very little, very brazen. The people who run and rule the world FOR PROFIT and lots of it don't give a sh¡t. If they did the world would most likely not be on the brink of caving in on itself. The little guys like me and my friends have zero say on what happens at the level where wars are planned, global policies are determined.....in fact, everything is a lie. Don't think so? No offense, you better go back and look closer and put fresh batteries in your abacus......better make it soon, their babbling about reducing the world's population will stop at some point and the "reducing" will start in earnest. It's already in motion and picking up momentum. Hopefully I'm wrong, 100% missing the mark. I wouldn't bet on it, not even with your money at zero interest assuming you extended me credit like the banks do. What they really do is extend you more debt. A credit score is them telling you how much further in debt you are allowed at the time of a particular financial review. Credit is debt, debt is credit. The borrower is slave to the lender. The world is in trouble and those that insisted on taking us for a ride to this point also insist on taking it all the way down. Watch it happen in real time, over the course of time. By the way divide 19 into 365 or 360 just for fun. It's 19.***** so if we went by that there would be 19 months each with 19 days with a leap year adjustment to pick up everything past 19.----- Gotta go for now and for later. ¿?¿?¿ Question what? This makes perfect sense to me. As a child, I had a feeling inside that myself I was unable to explain to anyone. When I was in my 30’s my ability to sense the emotions of others grew stronger & I finally broke my silence and told someone who I trusted & still trust today. She told me without a doubt in her voice, “you are an Empath”. I started researching it, learning as much as I could and seeing exactly how far will this go, how far can I take this. That feeling I had as a child was simply my soul knowing and showing me I am simple one of an infinite number of sparks that are connected to each other & we are everywhere & a part of everything. I have to keep control over my ability, but there are times when I simply let go of that control. It’s best to be done in water for the water acts like a natural filter. I’ve done this in the Atlantic Ocean & it was an experience that I will never forget. I felt the life we’re unable to see within the water, I felt grounded emotionally to where I didn’t want to leave Ocean, I wanted to stay. Outer space has life, you’re unable to see it, but it be there. Like oceans, forests, even within a single drop of rain. As an old Shaman once said “just because you do not see the Stag dose not mean he is not there”. We are all of Earth.❤

Ive believed this way since way back in grade school due to my 4th grade teachers husband being a shuttle engineer (i lived in Kissimmee, Fl), and the opportunity our school had of select students having an opportunity to send letters to space for those that won the essay contest ( 27 from around the school district won, I included) and having the opportunity to watch a live feed just for the school’s watching these astronauts in space read our letters back to us. It was a mind blowing experience and completely transformed the way I looked at the world, and that worldview has maintained. I often find myself incredibly frustrated with humanity because much of humanity is either blind or ignorant of the truth of our very existence.

Where it’s subconsciously forcing people to look beyond our own planet questioning our existence, and these people quite often find after these thoughts that they have found a completely mind blowing new way to look at the world. ( I think that is a line is some film IIRC) Is buying a new car next year the main priority in somebody's life? Or buying a more expensive house that they can't even afford? Yeah, maybe there is not much money in biology, philosophy, or even physics nowadays, but being able to study life and try to work out our place in the universe is priceless. Astronauts/ Space Travelers and Remote Viewers can all consciously connect with the so called "Bigger Picture" and what people don't realize is you don't have to even leave Earth to experience all of this first hand. One of the things I love spending time doing is what you refer to as "Dolly Zoom" which is a fantastic way of being able to get real clarity on "Perspective" When you spend all your time existing on the planet its then a good experience to see the smallness of Earth compared to the backdrop of space. Some of us like to Dolly Zoom to beyond our "Universe" to take in the wonder of the "Galaxies, Multiverse and the Cosmos" in which ever order you want to see it in.

Just TO help you out a little.. You are totally correct we are all connected in the same way via the magnetic field that is instantaneous . The speed of light is not significant to the magnetic field it travels through only restricted by same. E=MC2 is a joke. Try this,, If you vibrate the "B" field of a magnet into a granite rock at the correct frequency you will see it become very soft and malleable easy to shape!! Think about what Quarts rock is made of and it should answer your question, The center of a magnet is what we are all made of: a magnetic hologram of sorts, never ending! That's why they used the Pyramids to transport themselves through the universe. E=MC2 is a total Farce!!

Ron, thanks for sharing the images from space, as well as your words of wisdom on humanity's seemingly, never-ending enslavement to the fundamental, economic laws and principles of business (and other influences); that prevent the vast majority of us from living a more resourceful, peaceful, and spiritual way of life. As a rhetorical question, and in reference to the title of your video; could it be that the enormous lie(s) you and other astronauts may have discovered not only has to do with our hierarchical perception of the world economy in relation to the planetary environment, but also our misguided views about the actual, physical shape and construct of the planet itself? So we have a "global" economy, but do we actually live on a globular, spinning ball?

You are absolutely right Paul you don't have to go to space to experience the overview effect and you don't have to go to orbit to have an orbital perspective (that's why in my book "The Orbital Perspective" I included so many stories of people exhibiting the orbital perspective who had never been to space). It is in those moments when we are open to the miraculous awe and wonder that surrounds us constantly that we are able to experience the transformational overview effect and take on an orbital perspective.

@@RonGaran I want to add another common experience as an enlightening one: When you look up at the noon sun on 22nd Dec, directly behind the sun is the place where you (and we, the earth) were present on the preceding 22nd Jun. You can experience the same with the Equinoxes. Then you simply have to imagine a little the wide circular arc that the vast ball you are standing on, follows around the giant shiny bright ball of unbearable white light which is the noon sun. Imagine a jet trail left behind by the Earth as it moved around the Sun and imagine you can see this mighty circle when you look up at the noon sun. We're all on this ball spaceship, zooming in a wide circular arc around the bright white star. Timelapse photos of the rural night sky also show how we are the ones moving on a wide platform under the great river of stars in the sky. The whole platform is spinning. These few experiences always remind me of my primary identity in the sky as an Earthling. Hope this helps someone. Live long and prosper. 🖖
