I debated 2 flat earthers once. They had an answer to everything, but none of them proved anything. When Thoughty starts listing all the inconsistencies to a flat earth in this video it's just...insane that you would believe otherwise.

I am sorry to inform you that it is only one man's word that Einstein once told him something close to that sentence. Same thing is happening while we are not sure that the famous "Fur Elise" is actually Beethoven's work. (He never performed or published a piece like that and we don't have the original script to examine his hand writing). On the other hand Eratosthenes's experiment around 240 BC did prove that the Earth was a spherical object and even calculated the perimeter of it with a mistake less than 1%. Flat earth was not actually a "Theory". It was just a stupid "Hypothesis" because Science could easily prove that it was faulty (and not forty or thoughty 😁 )

Rio Roze: That's normal.....London & Jamaica are both in the Northern hemisphere so you should expect to see the same stars. Jamaica is a little further South than London so the stars will appear slightly lower in the sky than they do in London.

@rioroze3368 If you wish to demonstrate to yourself that you are on a globe, the next time you travel to a different latitude, take note of the moon. When you were in Jamaica you were about 31degrees further south than when you are in London. This means you are revolved relative to the 'heavens'. You may not be familiar with the constellations, so that might not strike you as it would a 'stargazer', but you would certainly notice the features of the moon revolved relative to the horizon by exactly the amount you changed latitude. When you cite, it's usually considered ignorant not the give the reference. But again there are people who believe in flat earth, so you're not the worst.. lol

It makes them feel like they are part of an elite group of powerful thinkers. If they recognize too few real accomplishments in their lives, they attach ultimate importance to the one thing that separates them from most of society: their 'elite' powers of perception and discernment, shared by few others. They'll never believe anything else without deconstructing themselves.

Years ago a co-worker took 30 minutes to explain to me why and how the moon landings were faked. He went into such incredible detail that he had me wondering.

There is pretty good evidence that some pictures were faked, ie they took pictures while training and represented them as real photos from the moon. However that does not mean the whole thing was faked it just means that they probably wanted more pictures 🤷

From the sound of things, I imagine part of Rowbotham's "improved debating technique" included covering his ears and yelling "La La La" until people finally just gave up.

@Andy H The Universe is not flat. You are confounding it's geometric shape (a sphere) with the space-time curvature (flat, open or closed - scientists are now pretty sure it's flat). This was actually a quote from the Flat Earth Society, the largest fe organisation. They constantly say ludicrous things and are obviously controlled opposition designed to derail the debate. Now I'm not a flat earther but I've researched both sides and cannot commit to either. What I have found is that there is a lot of fakery from orgs like NASA. More and more people are able to acquire tech to do there own experiments. One being sending weather balloons up to film the horizon and they show, contrary to that of NASA'S footage, a very flat horizon from the same altitude. It raises many questions but either way it is clear that we are being lied to about the nature of where we live. If there was nothing to it why the misinformation campaigns such as the FES? So I will reserve my judgement until I see conclusive proof one way or another. I encourage people to do their own research and never blindly trust “experts”. Whether it's religion, historical events and even fe. The quote that winners write history is very true and everyone has some kind of agenda. I used to mock people who had unpopular beliefs until I realised that my talking points were not my own, I was merely repeating what TV and school had told me. The peak of ignorance is rejecting something you know nothing about and refusing to research it for yourself. God bless.

There are also things which, while amusing, are not worth the brain power to consider. I have degrees in Land Surveying, Mathematics (with an emphasis on Trigonometry, Geometry, and Calculus), Geospatial Information Systems, and Satellite Systems Engineering; I've already considered,and rejected as laughable, Flat-Earth Theory.

I was once trapped next to a "Flat Earther" while playing Poker at a Casino. I had to turn it in an Exercise of being Nice no matter what. I eventually lost.

Why hasn’t anyone looked at the fact that that if the sun and moon are just hovering above the earth that you should see the sun at night if you look in its direction.

Clearly tooth decay is caused by tiny leprechauns.

@@honeychurchgipsy6 The #1 thing about investigation is to come in with a clear mind! If you already have assumptions, then your going to get facts that support that assumption (for the most part). The 2nd, we will never, ever know everything 'cause the answers we find, lead to even more questions. Sometimes those secondary questions are even more "mind blowing" than the 1st questions we asked. I'm 52 years old & I remember the times where we didn't know if there was planets outside of our solar system! Now, we know there is & some of those planets defy our understanding! On top of that, we don't even understand our own planet...Less than 20% of the worlds oceans have been effectively mapped!

@@cafulcher1968 - yes, I agree with you - beginning with your conclusion and then fitting evidence found to that conclusion is called post hoc rationalisation, and the weird thing is that, unless we have the errors of this thinking pointed out to us, it's not obvious why it is so dangerous. I am 59 and I also remember a world before exo planets. It is such an exciting time to live - I only wish I was younger so that I might have a chance of space travel myself. I think if there was the opportunity to go on a one way trip to our nearest habitable planet I would take it - the experience would be worth the risk of dying in space imo!! (do I watch too much Star Trek? maybe!!)

They were hoping that it would be by 2030, but when they put the rover on Mars, they found it would support life & they moved their timeline to 2024. I would absolutely love to do that but by that time I'd be 56 (2024) to 62 (2030)! Ain't no possible way their picking me, unfortunately!!!

One of my favorite proofs that the Earth is a sphere is the fact that, briefly after sundown, things in the sky can be illuminated from below. Usually, it is clouds that can be seen from below, but I have seen birds sunlit from below. Birds sunlit from below have been proposed as the cause of a number of reported sightings of UFOs (it really is that freaky a sight).

I prefer to think that the Earth is round because I don't like the idea of magic being how I'm here.

Atmospheric refraction can be amazing. Once, during a bus stop-over in Salt Lake City, Utah, I was gazing across the salt flats at the distant mountains floating in the sky. Even though I knew (more or less) what was causing the phenomenon, it was still eerily beautiful. It was also rather startling when I watched a large passenger jet serenely fly under the mountains.

I once had this bus driver, an old man, and one day he said to me while going down this straight road facing the east "notice how the sun rises on the left side of the rode? Well come the end of the school year, it'll rise on the right side" he didn't go into crazy detail, I was a sophomore in high school. He died that year before school was out and that stuck with me til this day. Just amazing things one might not notice on a day to day. Sorry your bus story reminded me of that.

That's a wonderfu lesson for him to have shared. I live in The Tropics so after late April The Sun moves the northern side of the sky and my balcony, which faces North, gets sunlight. It still intrigues me. I once combined 2 photos looking straight down at my Noon shadow, one 21 December, and one on 21 June, to show the extent of The Sun's position. @@brycej3849
