    Years ago when pre-installed OS was rare in China, most people would let their dealers install the OS (usually unlicenced version). The dealer would use any disk image software (mostly Ghost). If the system crashed, they would just "ghost" the system again, but all the data on partition C would be lost. Therefore, they prefer multiple partitions. It's not about dual booting: most people never uses multiple systems. And for those who knows how to do it, there will be more partitions.

  • @deepseer

    @deepseer

    11 ай бұрын

    Why this tradition persists, even when no one really uses Ghost any more and you can easily re-install OS without losing any data on partition C? 1. Windows's own security feature is useless when it meets Chinese softwares: they are so useful that you can't live without them but they keep popping up advertisements. Therefore, uses choose some Chinese security softwares, and these security software doesn't rely on Windows's built-in security feature that priorizes partition C or "Program Files" folder. 2. Some people just don't like software being installed to the default folder (usually "Program Files" but somes "User\Data"). They prefer to organize the folders themselves. 3. If you want to quickly locate a file, type "E:\XXX" is much faster than clicking through a tree of folders. 4. What if one partition is full while another is empty? Well, there are freewares that can resize partitions without losing data.

    Dawid, pro tip, if your card has an 8 pin but your psu only has a 6 pin, as long as you know you'll never pull more than 75W from the 6 pin (according to pcie standards, the cables can do more) you can just stick a wire or paperclip into the two open pins to jump them together, those two are just for sensing by pulling the sense pin to ground

  • @vadnegru

    @vadnegru

    If i remember correctly 6 pin is for 120W or 130W so it doesn't make sense they used 8 pin (rated 180W). Or they know how terrible their power supplies is, that can barely give 75w on 8 pin.

Looks like I have some room to play around with the little thing. The PSU actually offers GPU power, and I have a 16GB dual-stick 2400MT DDR4 set laying around. You mentioned that you could pay less if you were skilled at "bartering". To barter is to exchange goods for other goods, for example swapping my 2 cows for your 5 goats. So it's generally an exchange without money. I think the word you were looking for was haggling. To haggle is to negotiate the price you buy goods for. Sorry to be pedantic but I thought it was worth mentioning.

    9:24 I had a friend working in one of these retail stores selling cheap PCs. When I got my desktop this year, my 1TB SSD was split into 2 partitions, so I asked him why. He doesn't know the techy reasons but said it's for file organization and security since most purchases from his workplace are internet cafes looking for expansions. The partitioned space can be locked so the customer doesn't fumble around. I believe him, but to be honest, I think another reason is to trick the not-so-knowledgeable customers into thinking that they got multiple drives.
