I Went to Michigan Fiber Festival 2022-This is how it went! Meetup/Purchases/Camping/Goats/Knitting

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello! I love going to this fiber festival even though it seems to be shrinking. Last year I thought it was just a post-Covid thing, but i'm not sure about that this year! There was a subscriber meetup, I bought some very fun purchases. We camped and there were pygora goats and knitting! Wish you were all there!

Hidden Valley is where I got my two fleeces! They did have a lot of great ones. I’ve almost gotten a basket at past fests for the same reason you did: I wanted something pretty. Previously, I would use a small plastic bin, or even an old plastic mixing bowl, or a paper box from Dan’s workplace. But Dan got me a few more of those Walmart washtubs, and not only are they way better aesthetically, they are the perfect size for a sweater’s quantity of fiber. But I wouldn’t mind learning how to weave baskets either, and if you want a class buddy next year, just let me know. 😉 Dan tried to buy me a yarn bowl from that same booth! I one of my favorite ones got broken last summer and he wanted to replace it. I had already bought a replacement from a potter at an art show, so I turned down the gift. That tumbler is so beautiful! Elizabeth is such a kind soul. I know the art on it will remind you of summer all winter long. And thank you again for hosting the meet up, I had a really great time, and a lot of fun with kindred spirits.💜

Cool festival! Looks like you got some great buys there and had fun. On your Navajo spindle. I don't know how tall you are but if the spindle seems short while you spin it on the side of your leg, have John add a longer dowel rod through the center. Make sure you pre draft your wool before starting. I also stabilize mine in a bowl or on something that will keep it from slipping on the floor. Good luck! I found this spindle easier to use than a drop spindle.

Wish we had run into you! I was drawn to the Jacob’s as well but right now I DO NOT need another fleece to process and somehow managed to resist. (Of course I didn’t NEED anything but some fun things followed me home anyway - if it had been up to my fiber-enabler I would have had twice the haul!) Jim and I also noticed the decrease in number of vendors since our first visit in 2017. We didn’t arrive until mid-afternoon on Saturday but wondered if it had been busier earlier. I’m sure gas prices and the threat of recession may have played a role but I had no idea that vendors had been turned away. Fingers crossed that the Festival continues!

Trish you mentioned talking to a friends who felts- is that some thing you would ever do in your channel? I have been looking into a cobweb scarf- you use a big long strip of combed top like we get in the paradise fiber boxes, and lay it out whole and felt it that way. I’m looking for ways to use up fiber I don’t like enough to spin, so starting to look into wet felting. Love the Jacob- I’m picking through one now!
